Yeah especially in shows set in NYC. They always have these giant loft apartments in Manhattan where the rent is easly 4-5K or more. Now Barney works for an investment bank so I'm sure he'd doing just fine, but realistically Ted and Robin would be sharing a tiny studio of maybe 600 sf instead of the big apartment they've lived in all series. Maybe in Charlotte you can swing that, but not New York.

Agreed, it's ridiculously unrealistic. But it happens with any sitcom set in NYC (or other large city). Just have to ignore it really.

Yep, friends was a big offender for that sort of thing. I think thats part of the reason why people say "oh i'll just move to new york and have so much fun" without fully understanding whats about to happen.

So what happened to the condo Marshall/Lily bought?

Wasn't there some guy that lived below them that bought it to transform his place into a duplex? Or something like that. I think its out of the picture.

You do have to keep in mind that everything we've seen of the "real" world so far has been constructed from memory, so maybe it's just that he remembers the apartment as being this massive place with tons of room. They've already had that one bit where an apartment (I think it was Marshall and Lily's place) changes size based on how they remember it. Either way, it's really not super important to the plotline how big the apartment is.

FWIW, the apartment in Friends was rent controlled.

^^Rent controlled doesn't mean fire sale prices btw. A really nice and large place would still cost a lot.

After watching Monday's episode I'm convinced that Ted is a piece of shit friend.

On Friends, from what I remember, their grandma died or something and they moved in without letting the landlord know and were basically paying 1960s rent prices.

Yeah except that's not how it works in the real world.

This whole lack of continuity with new episodes just being thrown out occasionally at random is really starting to piss me off.

^I've noticed that most new episodes are doing that now. Big Bang Theory, House, HIMYM, Grimm, etc.
The only one that is most consistent is Once Upon a Time (maybe a gap here and there).

No wonder I wasn't able to keep track of new shows before I got my DVR (November ). I'd go nuts.

well, they put themselves on a timeline. by this time in 2015, ted's married with a baby. figuring that baby is just a few months old, conception would beearly spring 2014. unless he has a shotgun wedding or conceived on his wedding night, I'm guessing an at-earliest winter 2013 wedding. so sometime in the next season and a half he'll meet the mother?

also, they tried to hide barney's hand in the flash-forward scene to keep a ring in limbo. slowing it down, I don't think there was a ring there, but can't be certain

I actually liked the whole episode. I guess if we want a good one we'll have to wait through a month of reruns.

so are they going to spend all next season explaining barney/robin, and how ted/victoria break up?

victoria can't be the mother.

i kinda wish they'd just wrap the thing up

I'm fine with Robin and Barney. Not a GREAT season finale, but I laughed a good bit and at least it seems they finally are putting final pieces together. And I lost it when they told the story of Lilly stealing the 6-pack and Marshall and Ted pulled up - complete with The Proclaimers blasting from the tape deck

^Yep. Not overly pleased with the outcome, but these episodes were hilarious. Marshall trying to climb the two steps in the casino was classic. Also, the cuban sandwich crisis part was great. But the bit where Barney imagined walking into his apartment and finding Quinn's stripper friends had me dying. The "overheard camera that zooms on the girl being the loudest"

we all know it can't be victoria since it is highly unlikely she was the one with the umbrella and the roommate at that one girl's apartment. it's sort of pointless to go through this roller coaster with victoria when, assuming cannon isn't discarded, it can't be her. i feel they needed something drastic to justify next season so they went for these two pulls.

my one concern is in the "three years later" episode a month ago they showed ted with a 1 year old 3 years from now. this means 21 months before that (15 months from now) he got a girl pregnant. that is an awfully quick turn around.

^The article above explains Victoria pretty well. They said that Ted's last loose end was Victoria, so they felt like they had to officially wrap that up. Future Ted (narrator) knows that she isn't the one, but present Ted (past Ted?) does not.

^I'm starting to feel that way.

I'm glad that Ted finally grew some balls for once and is back with Victoria, even if we know she's not the mother (which kind of sucks b/c it means the show will most likely go on farther than it should). I'm pissed about the Barney and Robin thing though. For one thing I prefer Quinn, who seems better in every way. And come on, it was INCREDIBLY obvious that this was going to happen, so I say fuck you writers for shitty predictability.

Each season is a year. In the Star Wars episode, we saw 3 years into the future. Ted had a wedding ring and a child. The series has an expiration date (or at least a date for when Ted gets married).

Next season: Ted and Victoria sort things out. Likely will have a Barney/Robin wedding finale where Ted meets the mother. I fully expect a shenanigans guessing game in terms of him actually meeting 3+ girls.

Next season (2): Most likely revolves around Ted dating the mother and other girls from the wedding. May end in Ted's wedding?
