Va Tech, Clemson, and West Virginia are nowhere near meeting their allotments for their BCS bowls. Penn State can't sell 3000 freaking tickets (although there's obviously a reason for their fan apathy this season).

Meanwhile NC State had to ask for more tickets from the FREAKING BELK BOWL!!!

Imagine if we got invited to a real bowl. Last time it happened we showed up one of the biggest fanbases in the nation (2003 Gator Bowl, basically a home game).

Obviously State should sell out the Belk bowl consider it's location, but for Clemson to be having trouble selling tickets after winning the freaking ACC for the first time in two decades is surprising.

I was driving in SC earlier this week and listening to local sports radio I guess a big part of the problem for Clemson fans is that they can get better deals on tickets by not going through the school. Plus playing a mediocre WVU team is not exciting at all.

Clemson will still take plenty of fans there. But you're correct on the "getting better deals not going through the school."

Most of the tickets through the school are shitty. You can get cheaper tickets and better seats going outside of the school. I have never, and will never, buy bowl tickets through NC State. It's like that everywhere. But I'm not wasting my money.

schools need to stop jacking up the prices from the open market prices for shittier seats and they'll sell their allotments.

I don't know if we did that for the belk bowl or not, but if we did, then I'd almost argue that state fans are being dumb by buying through the university.

I've bought every bowl ticket i've ever gone to from either the bowl website itself, or the secondary market because the seats that you get through the university are shit, and cost more. fuck that.

It's not just State...pretty much every school does this for bowls. Although I don't think its necessarily the school's fault...they are usually given the tickets that the bowls allot to them. I don't think they have a choice.

And the State fans are either dumb...or just loyal. I think lots of them like to buy through the school because they know it makes the school look good and they want to make sure they are around lots of State fans. So kudos to them...not to me.

The PapaJohns bowl (now BBVA Compass Bowl) actually helps illustrate NC State's fans' ability to travel. It might not have looked good on TV, but you can't compare it to what you think things should look like. The only real comparison on a year-to-year basis is with the other teams that have played in the bowl.

NC State sold 10k tickets to a game in freaking Birmingham. 10k was the full allotment in 2008, I don't know if that's changed. At the time (the bowl was only three years old) it was tied for their best sales response (and beat Rutgets by 3k). Also at the time the NC State/Rutgers game was their highest attended. Not bad for a team that was going into the game with a 6-6 record.

After that game they pushed the bowl past the new year. Doing that plus inviting South Carolina (a fan base used to traveling to Alabama) And a UConn team that was having an emotional season (as cynical as it sounds emotional seasons sell local tickets by generating interest) causes them to beat the attendance record by 7k.

Bottom line (to end this argument):

NC State fans travel well. We're definitely above average.

But we're also not the best and some "CRAZY TRAVELING FAN BASE."

There are tons of factors that factor in to bowl attendance. However, we usually show up well and the bowls are happy that they selected us.
