^I've heard and seen this done before. Don't know if it's a code or not, but most apartments I've been in have had metal door frames. You can have the same installed in your home.

I'm not denying that it can happen, but if it's that big of a concern, then the objective should be to do what you can to stop the intruder from entering your home int he first place.

you're willing to use deadly force after hearing a sound downstairs and seeing the doorknob jiggle?

you obviously don't have a family or any friends

I hope you accidentally kill someone you love

gun nut home defense fantasies itt

^Someone who doesn't own a home and have a family ITT. It's not a knock on you, but like I said in the last page, everyone's situation is different.

In my situation, I own my own home and the only other person with a key is my wife who sleeps beside me at night. If there is another person in the house, they did not come in because they were invited or had a right to be in there. If they come to my bedroom, they aren't just a kindly old traveler looking for directions to the local mission. Obviously if I have company or if my wife is working late and I head to bed, I don't whip out a sub-machine gun and wait for the door to open.

Oh and...

"

Are you fucking retarded?

You don't shoot at jiggling doorknobs unless you know for 100% sure that it's an intruder.

...and I guarantee you that buckshot will go right through a wooden door.

Finally, I don't think you need slugs. I think you grossly underestimate some 0 or 00 buck. Or hell, even #1.

Also, whoever mentioned birdshot for home defense...that's even dumber.

It definitely will. Even birdshot is going to go through most wooden doors.

^Most modern wooden doors, yes I completely agree. I don't have a "modern home" by any stretch of the imagination.

If it's 2AM and my wife is still in bed but my bedroom door knob is jiggling, I can promise you it's someone not invited.

"BLACKSBURG, VA. — State police say the gunman who killed himself at Virginia Tech acted alone in the slaying of a campus police officer.

Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the gunman ran from the scene and changed clothes before killing himself in a parking lot a half-mile away.

Geller says the gunman, whose identity has not been released, was later found by an officer in the campus parking lot. The man shot and killed himself.

Geller said at a Friday news conference that the gunman put his clothes in a backpack and left it behind at a greenhouse on campus.

Geller says investigators are still trying to find out why the gunman ambushed the officer, Deriek W. Crouse."

settledown, settledown! I'm only a problem if you enter my home at night while I'm sleeping and try to get into the bedroom. There is an easy solution to not getting shot by me... don't break into my house.

Your words, not mine...

He obviously thought about trying to get away with it (changing clothes), but then he kills himself.... buyer's remorse?

Right. The 'innocent' person that broke into my house at 2am and tried entering my bedroom where my wife and I were. Yeah, I'm gunna get sent to jail for that. Might want to check your local gun laws before you say things like this.

^^^HaHa... I've seen something similar to that.

I'm all for preventing the need to ever use deadly force, but at night in your own home, very few courts would ever seen a scenario where you are "require to retreat". Part of the reason why I don't carry in public is because the legal and moral aspect of using deadly force on ANYONE when you have the ability to retreat is.... sketchy. I don't know about NC, but in VA you can't just say "your back was up against a wall", so you shot a guy. That'll get you an 'assault with a deadly weapon' charge. If you're in your home, you are assumed to be in an area where you can't retreat, but you still have to give the intruder every chance to exit (which I mentioned previously, as well).

Making your home look like a "hard target" is the easiest way to keep someone from entering your residence. wolfpackgrrr might be onto something with the booby traps... that would probably keep you from being a 'soft target'. HaHa.

^^I've always thought almost the exact same thing about people who hide guns all over their house. They're thinking "Great! I'll be able to defend myself no matter where I am in my home!"

So a thief breaks into your home in the middle of the night and instantly starts doing what.... looking for things to steal. If you have guns all over your house, they're thinking "Great! I'll be able to defend myself no matter where the home owner is in their home!"

What about swat/police, no-knock warrant (either lawfully or mistakenly)? I could be wrong but I seem to remember people being sent to jail for shooting cops even if the cops mistakenly entered the wrong residence (or the paperwork got screwed up).

Maybe it's an urban legend (or I am full of shit), I don't know.

Wait, here you go maybe? http://lawblog.legalmatch.com/2011/05/24/court-says-no-right-to-resist-cops-unlawful-home-entry/

I'm just saying that it's not that far of a stretch past your unlikely bad guy scenario to imagine someone in your house for some other reason that doesn't deserve a death sentence with no trial. The cops. A kid. Your dumb cunt wife forgot to lock the exterior door and your senile/retarded neighbor wandered in.

statistically speaking, the odds are pretty low that some armed burglar will break into your house at 2am

the odds are much lower however, that the cops, some kid or your neighbors will wander into your house at 2am

I just saw you said 0 or 00 shot. IMHO, it would be pointless to use this kind of shot inside your home. I assumed you would be using a shot more reasonable for home defense. I mean, a person doesn't require the same shot to neutralize as a fucking deer unless you're trying to saw the guy in half. To me, that falls more into settledown's category of "gun nut home defense fantasies itt".... but again, I'm not going to judge what someone else wants to do to defend their home. 0 or 00 shot seems unreasonable to me, personally.
