i hate to go back to 2011 since it's basically march now, but i looked as far back as june in the 2011 thread and noticed nobody mentioned these guys

http://nervesjunior.bandcamp.com/

and neither did any major music blogs/publications. pretty much amazing gave it album of the year . i wanna say this is really awesome, but i keep telling myself there must be a reason why everyone passed up on it because if it was that good it wouldn't have flown so far under the radar, right?

Because it's a self-released MP3 Bandcamp album from a band in Kentucky that no one's ever heard of?

^ I like it. It's not going to change the world, but it's certainly a pleasant listen with plenty of hooks

new Miniature Tigers is out
i am only on the first track but it is an Of Montreal b-side if i ever heard one

this sounds like they are heading backwards, after their last two albums - still catchy pop but "girl i love you baby baby" pop and not as impressive song variation

the middle of the album is better than the beginning, skip the first two songs if you ask me

"Cleopatra" and "Flower Door" standout in the first half

Magnetic Fields is pretty mediocre from me. A couple good tracks, some entertaining turns of phrases, but not a classic like their earlier Merge stuff.

I don't have much experience with their early 90s albums. It seems like everything they've put together since then is good for a few listens and then gets super annoying; that goes with Distortion, the Beach Boys-harmonies-sounding one, and now this one I can't even get through all the way.

I don't get it...

And why does Merge like has-been bands and senior citizens, anyway?

Bob Mould is the latest, apparently...

While mostly being cynical on that list, I do not particularly think Wild Flag is worth a damn. I love Sleater Kinney, and I'm sure Brownstein is awesome, but I just can't get into Wild Flag. Honestly, I was ready to leave before their show was over at the Cradle last fall.

And Husker Du? Wtf...

This trolling is lazy, even by your standards. I almost want to re-up my premie to embed this: http://youtu.be/Lq_TowFGLU8

I'm really into this record by the Men. It sounds like they're having fun.

90% sure that "Your Girlfriend's Face" on this new Magnetic Fields album is a Weird Al song from 1993

^ so bad. what happened?!? i like simple song and september. there are one or two other decent tracks. but most of it is something i would imagine soccer moms listening to while sipping skinny lattes at starbucks. just terrible.

the last three songs are literally unlistenable.

^ the "what happened?!?" was in reference to my initial expectations after hearing Simple Song and September (which, to me sound like tracks that could've fit easily on Chutes too Narrow). I didn't like Wincing the Night Away and expected this new album to be terrible until I heard those two songs. Guess I should've stuck with my initial negative expectations.
