Saudi Arabia has had ISIS terrorist attacks inside the country... because they have been bombing them as part of the coalition. Any evidence they are funding ISIS?

Turkey has been acting erratic, and I read reports saying foreign fighters wanting to join ISIS were going through their borders and Turkey did nothing to ebb the flow. But do you have any evidence they are funding them?

Not the governments themselves. Private donors. The governments just turned a blind eye to it for years because it was only a threat to their adversaries.

i was just talking about those two nations as part of a discussion tonight with some friends of mine. he was pushing for the bernie sanders approach saying that we should completely pull out of the area, and just fund our allies in the region, specifying those two countries.

first, our BEST allies on the ground have been the Kurds. Turkey has been at odds with them for a really long time and have resisted the US working with them. unfortunately, we need Turkish airspace to be most effective in the area, and it has put a huge damper on some of our strategies int he region during this, and the other regional conflicts over the past several decades.

Saudia Arabia has some of the worlds worst policies against women, and other groups that islam deems "dirty" or "unholy" or whatever. they are an "ally" that we consort with but in all fairness it's because of a lack of "better" friends in that area.

I didn't think that Saudi money(and money from other oil rich countries like Kuwait and Qatar) funding terrorism wasn't something everyone knew about, but I guess if you live in a country that censors the news and internet then its understandable you don't know about it

i assume google doesn't work in your country, so here is some random google search reading for you

This is interesting. The implication is that Russia would stop bombing the rebels that the us supports, but this isn't explicitly stated.

The other implication is that both countries will be focusing primarily on ISIS, but this also isn't explicitly stated.

Also noteworthy that Hollande spent a decent amount of time explaining that he doesn't blame all Muslims and neither should anyone else. Seems like the aftermath of the bombing so far is general unity against IS.

^^hindsight is of course 20/20, but it would be interesting to see if we had switched roles between Iran and Saudi Arabia post 9/11 (and if we had really started funding green energy). We engage Iran diplomatically about their terrorist ties (hopefully with some success), bring their oil production up-to-date and online, and slowly begin the process of pressuring the gulf Arabs into stopping funding of terrorists or else face sanctions similar to what Iran faced.

I think we've had it backwards for so long due to oil and the conflict in Israel. Shiite states I think we can deal with and incorporate them into the global economy, extremist Sunnis can go pound sand.

Well, the Saudis right now are driving down the price of oil to retain market share as well as drive American drillers out of business. That is taking away some of the region's money. I posted something on the stock market thread last week about the billions of dollars that have been pulled out of world markets by sovereign wealth funds (i.e. state oil money).

So your best bet is currently being done.

Thank God a Hitler-controlled Germany never came around in modern times. The man would've died President. I agree with everything you say, but we'd've never won World War II in such an environment.

So, obviously Russia was conducting strikes in Syria. And the U.S., and others, wanted to work with Russia in fighting ISIL. I think those plans could now be in jeopardy, B. With the downing of that Russian jet by the Turks, I'm sure Putin isn't trying to play nicely, B.

US coalition in first downing of Syrian army plane
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-40322666

Quote :
"A US-led coalition fighter jet has shot down a Syrian military plane in Raqqa province, the US has confirmed.

The SU-22 fighter bomber was engaged by an F/A-18E Super Hornet after it had dropped bombs near the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, the Pentagon said.

It is the first time in the Syrian conflict that the US-led coalition has shot down a Syrian jet.

Syria condemned what it called a "flagrant attack" that would have "dangerous repercussions"."

If we want to have a say in this theater once the various sides meet in the middle, we have to be able to defend ourselves and the alliances we have made with various groups.

The Syrian regime, and somewhat Russia, will push and push till it gets as much as possible. There has to be a credible threat of retaliation.

These handful of collisions we have seen are inevitable as boundaries are tested. The hope is that the top brass on either side recognize this and make the smart calculus decision that deescalates.

And we should recognize that some of these incidents will be on purpose as syrian regime ignores warnings, and some will be accidental in fog of war. But if US communications policy is upheld on the ground, almost all Syrian vehicles will be warned if they are threatening US special forces or allies in close contact with us.

I'm confident the Syrians and Russians are responsible enough to de-escalate. They always are. I know it would be different if one of our planes got shot down in its own airspace.

You're right. There has been very little violence in Crimea. Especially when you compare it with Eastern Ukraine.

Yep.

"A United Nations report says hostilities have been escalating in eastern Ukraine in recent months because parties to the armed conflict there have "repeatedly failed to implement cease-fire agreements.” The report by the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights says the U.N. Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine recorded 36 conflict-related civilian deaths and 157 injuries from Feb. 16 to May 15—a 48% increase on the previous three months. The report says that since the conflict began in eastern Ukraine in mid-April of 2014, at least 10,090 people have been killed—including 2,777 civilians. It said at least 23,966 people have been injured and more than 1.6 million people displaced by the fighting. (RFE/RL, 06.13.17)

One Ukrainian soldier was killed and five wounded in Donbas in 57 violations of the ceasefire from June 12-June 13, the press center of the Ukrainian security operation (ATO) headquarters said June 13. On June 11, ATO headquarters said four Ukrainian servicemen had been killed and seven wounded in Donbas over the previous 24 hours. On June 9, ATO headquarters said one Ukrainian soldier had been killed. (BBC Monitoring, 06.09.17-06.13.17)

The Ukrainian military’s shelling of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) left one civilian and one militiaman wounded, while six residential dwellings suffered damage, DPR Operational Command spokesman Eduard Basurin said June 11. Two civilians were wounded after the car they were traveling in hit a mine in the northeastern outskirts of Gorlovka in the DPR, acting Mayor Ivan Prikhodko said. (TASS, 06.11.17, TASS, 06.12.17)"

[quote]Tensions between the president and lawmakers in both parties continue to grow, and Democratic leaders walked out of a White House meeting Wednesday after what they described as an insulting and “nasty diatribe” by Trump during which he called House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) a “third-rate politician.”

“He just couldn’t handle it, so he kind of engaged in a meltdown,” Pelosi told reporters, referring to the 354-60-4 bipartisan vote in the House earlier Wednesday that broadly condemned the troop withdrawal. Later, Pelosi added: “I think now we have to pray for his health, because this was a very serious meltdown on the part of the president.”
