Jason Kidd is a proven winner

Lin has started 25 games in his career, averaging nearly 7 turnovers per 48 minutes

i guess face still has Linsanity though

I agree that signing Lin is highly risky. Lin's family is from Taiwan, not mainland. So there may not be a market as large as Yao. Knicks must have done business analysis already.

Kidd is one of the greatest of all time. It's still one of the worst decisions ever without question.

^ You're giving the Knicks way too much credit. This is one of the worst run franchises in professional sports.

I know Knicks is in trap right now. But they have their reason to drop him. Signing Felton should have been prepared before Rockets threw out the new contract.

Nash wants to go to Lakers. Lakers doesn't need Nash.
Lakers wants to sign Nash and Howard at that time. No money for Lin.

no way, Nash is still one of the best PG's in the game. The Lakers are the favorite to win the title right now IMO.

I took them at 8:1 odds already.

Not only do you get a guy who scores efficiently and finds open shooters/rollers but you also keep the ball out of Kobe's hands and limit his awful shots and turnovers. I can't think of a better fit for the Lakers other than CPIII.

Rondo is amazing but the Lakers don't really need his rebounding and I'd rather have a shooter like Nash when you have two offensive big men like Bynum/Gasol.

The Lakers are going to hammer most teams so they can rest their starters during the season too. We could see Kobe fall to like 21 ppg this year but on efficient numbers if he embraces being a role player.

why would Kobe need to be a role player? He's still one of the best scorers in the NBA.

nah, that ship has sailed. He's definitely one of the best at making bad shots, but when you've got an elite offensive player like Nash there's no reason for the Lakers to take a lot of bad shots anymore.

Let Nash run the pick and roll and run the offense. In the NBA you've got ~100 possessions a game so getting as many good shots as possible is key.

Nash, Bynum, and Gasol are all efficient scorers. Barnes and Kobe can just stand around and space the floor and take open 3's.

If the Lakers want to compete for a championship you can't have Kobe turning it over all game and firing up bricks. It's time to pass the torch to someone who can get it done like Nash/Bynum.

Don't get me wrong. Nash has a way of making his teammates look really good and Kobe is still valuable for his defense, rebounding, ability to hit open & contested shots. But you simply can't run the offense through an inefficient scorer and expect Bynum/Gasol to carry you every night. There are too many other good teams in the league right now.

^^ i just wrote it. It's no secret that Kobe is a shell of what he used to be. Maybe Nash can re-juvenate him.

With or without Kobe's cooperation though, that team is good enough to challenge for the title.

They can't beat heat, even thunder or Knicks if they don't have Howard.

face is forgetting that lin doesn't mesh well with carmello while kidd is used to playing with dirk and just being a set shooter at this point. lin's shot is questionable and he made that run with amare and melo both out. the chemistry was never going to work. almost like the trainwreck some people think may be coming to la if they dont ship bynum.

also you have to remember that lin sold out the franchise by refusing to play against the heat in the playoffs. that was a complete slap in the face. you don't send the wrong message to your other players who played through all sorts of iinjuries and issues that you're going to kiss the ass of some dleaguer who had a few good games and then took a selfish shit on the franchise in the playoffs.

[Edited on July 16, 2012 at 11:49 PM. Reason : plus getting felton is just gravy. they are loaded with 2 starting pgs now]

^ fine, get rid of Melo if he can't play with Lin.

He had a knee injury and the Knicks refused to sign him. Why the hell would he play for them? Risk his entire career earnings potential over a series vs the Heat that they had no chance of winning.

You remember that series? The Knicks got curbstomped. Michael Jordan couldn't have swung that series, let alone Jeremy Lin.

Felton is to gravy what Eddy Curry is to gravy.

All I'm saying is that if you need one basket and the game is on the line, even if the lakers get howard, Kobe needs to be taking the shot. Not Nash. Not Howard. Not Bynum. Not Gasol. Kobe's efficiency went down because his shots went up. Is he a shell of his former self? Kind of. Kobe from the time he was like 22 till he fucked up his knee was a top 3 NBA player. He's not quite as good as he was in his prime, but still an elite player in the NBA. Role players don't score 26 points a game.

knicks had no shot against the heat, regardless of Lin's participation

and even if he could have made the difference, dude's got a career to consider

IIRC the knicks won a game in that series they "had no chance in hell of winning".

if they already could beat the heat, i don't understand how a pg worth 15 million a year wouldn't give them a chance when their other pg was mike bibby

losing a game by 40 doesn't mean you couldn't be 1 player away from winning that same game. weaknesses get compounded. if lin is a 15 a year pg then he would've put them into competition.

like he'd win a title in New Jersey, excuse me Brooklyn, anyway

Wilt went to the Lakers from Philly, Kareem went there from Milwaukee, Shaq went there from Orlando

those are three of the best bigs ever...I guess Dwight is too good for that though...fuck him

Can't blame him why would he sign an extension for 3 years/$60 when he could sign for 5/$100 in a new contract. Same thing Chris Paul is doing.

Wow, if the Twolves complete this deal to rid themselves of Wesley Johnson and end up landing Kirilenko they are loaded. Could be one of the better teams in the West if Rubio is healthy and Roy isn't a detriment.

Also, huge addition for the Knicks to get Ronnie Brewer, basically makes up for the loss of Landry Fields.

Kidd, Brewer, Melo, Novak, and Chandler is a good lineup. Too bad they threw Lin away though, that team was on the edge of competitiveness. All they had to do was amnesty Amare and they were all set.
