another series win!

now we could actually absorb an unlikely sweep @TEX and still be ahead for the pennant!

I really don't see that happening. If anything the A's will sweep TEX and then somehow lose 2/3 of their games to MIN, SEA, LAA, and HOU just to make it interesting/nerve wracking in the end

crazy indeed. lucky to have pulled this one out after the Anderson/Chavez/Cook disaster

Quote :
"Game Notes
RANGERS RIGHTFIELDER ALEX RIOS WAS EJECTED BY THIRD BASE UMPIRE ANDY FLETCHER AFTER THE END OF THE EIGHTH INNING FOR ARGUING A CALL AT THIRD.

ATHLETICS PITCHER BRETT ANDERSON LEFT THE GAME IN THE BOTTOM OF THE EIGHTH INNING DUE TO AN APPARENT INJURY.

RANGERS PITCHER MATT GARZA WAS EJECTED FROM THE DUGOUT BY FIRST BASE UMPIRE JOE WEST IN THE TOP OF THE NINTH INNING FOR ARGUING."

I hate to say it, but at this point, Anderson does us more harm than good. He's not used to coming out of the bullpen and the A's can't use him like the Giants used Lincecum. Couple that with being exceedingly injury prone, I say just let him sit out the rest of the season and have him come back next year. He's a great pitcher, but we honestly don't even need him right now.

Every time Anderson gets hurt he looks so uncoordinated and almost falls off the mound. Sucks that as soon as we gave him a big contract he started getting hurt every few game he pitches.

that'll do nicely

assuming we win the division, is it safe to say we will be playing DET. hoping it's a 2-2-1 format instead of the horseshit that happened last year.

Texas has folded. Selig is in a real bind with Tex/Anaheim/and Yanks threatening to not make the playoffs. A Clev/Rays or Royals/Rays wildcard play in with Bos/Det/Oak would send Selig to an early grave.

If the A's win the World Series, look for a joint suicide of Selig and his buddy Lew Wolff

another blown save by Balfour

Wonder if teams have figured him out?
Or if the odds were just bound to move against him after so much success?

eh, Colon struggled for a few weeks and he's fine now

same deal with Parker

if they both continue to struggle and cost us a lot of games in the next few weeks I will be really concerned, but I'm not surprised we dropped 2/3 to LAA. They underperformed like crazy all season, but they can beat anyone when they play well.

On a good note, Texas just lost another 1 run game in the 12th inning and I read this gem:

true. but he had a few weeks off and was 100% rehabbing/juicing up/whatever over that time. Its not like we're giving Cook and Balfour the same opportunity to refresh and regen for the playoffs...

Maybe if we get the magic # down to 0 quickly and can throw Chavez out there to close every game?

any tdub A's fans still left around the NC State / RTP, NC area?

Its hard to find A's fans to get drunk and hype with wolfpack-style for A's games - but a pennant series is pretty much a lock now! PM or reply if interested...

for the record, the Jed Lowrie trade may have been the best things that happened to help raise our game vs. last year. Maybe even more than makes up for the C. Young trade?

1 game behind BOS and 2 games up on DET.

Will be interesting to see where they wind up seeding wise. I honestly think they'll get the 2 and have DET at home, but it would be great to be the top seed and face whatever wildcard team limps into the playoffs without their ace pitcher.

I think it's 3 up on Det with 5 to play. Worst case, it iwll be home field against Det. Catching Boston would be nice, who has the tie break if it's even on Sunday? Would be nice toplay the winner of the play in after they use their ace.

You're right. They lost to the Twins last night in extra innings.

No matter who we draw, we are in a great position to make some noise. REALLY clicking in the month of September.

funny all of the after-the-fact--way-too-late columnists who are all over Donaldsons nutes for MVP all of a sudden... its not like we've been shitty this year and just hit a winning streak - neither has JD. A's have been solid pretty much all year, so has JD. Goes to show that its really all about the big $payroll teams with the starpower brand name players.

Enjoy it while we can - and these players while we can... even after all this success, there will be little recognition going into next year other than big payroll teams poaching our blooming young star. Lets win it all again! ...and hope Beane continues to swindle the other GMs selling high and buying low.

We need to sweep @SEA. DET is only a game back and gets to play the worst team in baseball to close things out...

Oh and Bud Selig...

don't let the door hit you on the way out

Hope the A's win back to back just to spite him in his final two years

Oakland is up one and owns the season series with DET. I think this means Oakland needs one win and one Detroit loss (against Marlins, ughh) to clinch the home field in the playoffs vs DET. Oakland is not catching Boston (even thought they own the season series here too) because they would have to sweep Seattle and Boston would have to go 1/3 @ Baltimore. Bartolo and King Felix tonight.

^Correct

Would be great to beat King Felix tonight, but I'm realistically expecting us to go 1-2 against SEA. If they can take 2/3 they will deserve home field

F*CK THE RAIDERS.

Read somewhere that Balfour and a few other pitchers claim the coliseum dirt is home field advantage because no other team could possibly get as used to it as the A's, especially relievers who are only throwing 10-20 pitches and need to be game on for every one

Would have been nice to have one more W and taken on Tampa with Price and their #2 out of commission for Games #1 and #2. Oh well. I assume it's going to be Bartolo/Sonny/Parker vs. Scher/Ver/Anibal for #1,2, and 3. #4 will likely be Straihly for Oakland. Oakland has had more success against Scherzer than most this season. Ver struggled but he can shut a team out on two hits/103 pitches on any given night and Anibal has thrown a perfect* game. Glad these first two games are in Oak as opposed to that ridiculous schedule last year. Cesp will DH in Oak I assume as I am disregarding the noise that he might not even play. Hopefully in left for #3. I'm nervous Sogard/Moss/and whomever platooning at catcher will go 0fer this weekend.
