apparently the unc-charlotte boards are all abuzz about lewis transferring. he had relationship with lutz when he was there, and his lewis's brother played there. of course, no sources, so i'm sure it's complete bullshit. and apparently some of the charlotte fans don't think they need him. we're not the only team with stupid fans!

From what I hear, there is now talk about brown and leslie returning to win an ACC Championship and make a run depending on gottfried still being around.

I'd sure as hell take it. We'd actually have depth for the first time in like 5 seasons

At this point, I think it's more likely that they all declare for the draft along with Warren, Gott leaves, Barber and Anya ask for releases, Purvis/Lewis transfer, and we start next year with 2 scholarship athletes. One of them being Jordan Vandenberg.

And then Kyle Washington transcends the game of basketball, posting 40 point, 30 rebound, 20 block games on the regular as he leads NCSU on a 4 year undefeated reign of terror the likes of which will never again be seen on this planet

I think its pretty obvious that a great floor general like Lewis wants to play.

Sounds about right to me. I think UCLA strikes out on all top choices and is left with Gott.

Everything falls apart from there. That seems more likely to me than we somehow sign a big man/transfer, keep Gott, add another top 10 class and continue being at least sorta relevant.

The Cubs will win the World Series before NC State wins a conference championship in a revenue sport.

I would rather see State lose every game than have a single coach or player on team who's ego has them believe they are too good for the program. Between Gottfried saying he wants UCLA job and the retweets from players I hope they leave. A lot of these guys just don't have what it takes to be winners because they will never be set free from their own arrogance. I sort of long for the Les Robinson days...they lost a lot of games but every member played as though they appreciated the opportunity to be on the team. This season was a disaster fueled by folks who thought they were too big for their pants. Thanks to social media I will have a hard time pulling for State next year if current coach and certain players remain on the team.

Gott would be stupid not to go to UCLA. He had possibly the best team in the weakest ACC he would see and sucked it up. Best to just head to the crappy pac 12 and beat up on georgia tech level teams all season

I'm not worried about any of these rumors at the moment; they have as much credibility to me as Cowher eating a chickfila biscuit in the brick yard. Not saying they couldn't happen, but I think they're just overreactions from our fan-base at the moment.

"With Mark Gottfried talking about rebuilding the Pack, here's a look at where things stand for the next couple of years:
2013-2014 season
BeeJay Anya, C, 6-8, Fr.
Anthony Barber, PG, 6-1, Fr.
Kyle Washington, PF/C, 6-9, Fr.
Tyler Lewis, PG, 5-11, Soph.
Rodney Purvis, SG, 6-3, Soph.?
T.J. Warren, SF, 6-8, Soph.?
Ralston Turner, SF/SG, 6-5, R-Jr.
Jordan Vandenberg, C, 7-0, R-Sr.

2014-2015 season
Caleb Martin, SG/SF, 6-6, Fr.
Cody Martin, SF, 6-6, Fr.
BeeJay Anya, C, 6-8, Soph.
Anthony Barber, PG, 6-1, Soph.
Kyle Washington, PF/C, 6-9, Soph.
Tyler Lewis, PG, 5-11, Jr.
Rodney Purvis, SG, 6-3, Jr.?
T.J. Warren, SF, 6-8, Jr.?
Ralston Turner, SF/SG, 6-5, R-Sr.

2015-2016 season
Caleb Martin, SG/SF, 6-6, Soph.
Cody Martin, SF, 6-6, Soph.
BeeJay Anya, C, 6-8, Jr.
Anthony Barber, PG, 6-1, Jr.
Kyle Washington, PF/C, 6-9, Jr.
Tyler Lewis, PG, 5-11, Sr.
Rodney Purvis, SG, 6-3, Sr.?
T.J. Warren, SF, 6-8, Sr.?

With Purvis now likely gone in light of Gottfried's return, we'll have a question mark until he makes his public tweet about leaving the Pack or whatever form he does. I don't know when he'll make a public proclamation but there just isn't any of the usual sources that expect him back.

Warren is expected to come back for next year, but most expect him to have a huge scoring season and then bolt to the NBA.

Point guard moving forward should be in good shape with Tyler Lewis and Anthony Barber, assuming the latter qualifies academically. Lewis proved he could play 35-plus minutes against Miami and Duke and Barber has superb conditioning too. Taking a point guard in 2014 seems inevitable and that's the one position you don't want to be caught short at, but it could be a combo type or a taller point guard, who has some defensive versatility.

Shooting guard could be a hodgepodge, but juco transfer Desmond Lee is visiting this weekend and he'll know he can seize that position with Purvis gone. LSU transfer Ralston Turner will play both wing positions but it will be interesting to see how he handles guarding the Seth Curry-type of smaller guards. I'm sure he faced similar players in the SEC.

I like that a Lee/Turner combo will take pressure off of Caleb Martin from having to carry a heavy load as a freshman. He can break into things and then have a larger role down the road.

I'm under the impression that T.J. Warren will end up at small forward rather than power forward. It's clearly what he wants to play and he's going to need to score close to a 20 points per game clip. Turner and perhaps even Lee could fill in and then eventually you have Cody Martin or perhaps Caleb getting minutes there in the future. Adding another wing in 2014 seems to be the game plan, especially if it's a knock down shooter. If that doesn't happen, Brandon Ingram of Kinston High in 2015 would fill that Scott Wood kind of role and is becoming a really good shooter.

The two inside spots are just going to be tricky. A graduate transfer at power forward would be ideal and then Kyle Washington can come off the bench and help out. I still wouldn't be surprised if Warren ends up here too.

Guys close to Team Takeover were telling me today that incoming freshman BeeJay Anya has continued to put on weight and that's not good. The trio of Anya, redshirt junior Jordan Vandenberg and either Washington or a transfer will have to help the Wolfpack get through games. The ACC isn't overloaded with great centers and Maryland's Alex Len and UNC's James McAdoo are both expected to turn pro. Miami, Duke, and Clemson also lose centers. However, Virginia, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Syracuse should be solid in the middle.

Finding two more bigs in either 2013 or 2014 seems to be inevitable for the Pack. I continue to hear that Lennard Freeman will end up in 2014 and play with the Martin twins on Team Loaded this spring/summer. Nothing seems imminent with senior center Sidy Djitte, who could easily end up at Clemson after officially visiting the Tigers, who are also extremely thin inside moving forward.

There are always buzz words during the preseason and I could see a series of these words getting emphasized:

Accountability
No more entitlement
Play for the jersey not the name

If those things end up happening, maybe it won't be a big year in terms of wins/losses, but it will set the tone for the next wave of success. The 2015-2016 roster has a chance to be stacked.
"

Rumors around Purvis are that his grades are bad and his mother is upset with his minutes/playing time vs Warren.

Apparently she wrote Gottfried a letter when Purvis was benched for Warren.

Wtf does this even mean? I was under the impression that if none of the "usual" sources have anything to say...it mean everything was continuing as it was and there was no need to comment on it, i.e. Purvis isn't going anywhere.

Transfer speculation is my least favorite thing that exists on the internet. It serves no purpose and in the twitter world we live in it leads to middle aged men bothering athletes.

Yeah nowadays kids are getting bombarded from all sides and a kid with expectations doesnt always do well with all the criticism publicly. I really liked Purvis and his fire and energy he just needed to get under control a little more and was expecting great things from him next year so I hope he stays.

It just makes no sense. He'll have a guaranteed opportunity to start next year and probably get 30+ minutes a game if he plays well. Versus sitting out a year. The only way it makes any sense is if he planned on one and done and got terrible grades.

Anyone want to go back to the timeline and see if "starting to recruit Lee" coincides with "benching Purvis for Warren."

I'm betting they are pretty close.
