Contender? Sure, I think they will be a factor in the title race if they sign him. Will they win it? I highly doubt it.
Even if they spend that much money on Suarez they are still miles behind City in terms of spending. They've spent 90 million this summer already in addition to all their previous additions. 7/25/2013 3:49:04 PM |

I think Suarez makes them a really scary team to play against. But he's going to miss the first 7 or 8 games or whatever and then I fully expect him to meltdown at some point and miss more games later in the season with the English media all over him. I really, really think he does not not want to be in England anymore. 7/25/2013 4:05:01 PM |
Vulcan91 All American 13893 Posts user info edit post |
I dunno; you would think if he wanted out of England he would have no problem finding a club to bid on him. Real Madrid comes to mind. Suarez's issues seem to stem from completely losing his mind on the pitch, but I haven't heard that much about him being a horrible teammate or anything like that. In a way Arsenal could use a player with that kind of fire as long as they can keep him from fucking biting someone or using racial slurs.
The key for Arsenal is that it would appear that for the first summer in ages they aren't going to bleed off their best players. Actually keeping the team intact plus adding some quality could break them out of the perpetual 3rd/4th place battle. 7/25/2013 4:19:53 PM |

Tottenham turning down a world record (86 million pound) bid for Gareth Bale from Real Madrid.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jul/27/gareth-bale-real-madrid-tottenham-hotspur
All things considered, I think I'd take the 86 million pounds and move on.
It'd be pretty sick to have Bale on the left, and be able to move Ronaldo to the right. ] 7/28/2013 2:36:56 PM |

NBC TV schedule is out! http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/29/premier-league-tv-schedule-for-nbc-sports-group-released/related/
Quote : | "STAMFORD, Conn. – July 29, 2013 – Following the Premier League’s announcement of the first three months of the 2013-14 schedule on July 11, NBC Sports Group today released its television schedule for that time period featuring live coverage of all 130 matches, beginning Saturday, August 17 at 7:00 AM ET on NBC Sports Network with the Liverpool-Stoke matchup.
A total of 69 Premier League matches – at least five games each week in the season’s first three months – will be presented on NBC Sports Network, NBC and CNBC with all games preceded and followed by Premier League Live pre- and post-match shows from the NBC Sports Group International Broadcast Center in Stamford, Conn.
The 61 remaining Premier League matches will be made available on Premier League Extra Time, a bonus television package available to MVPDs at no extra cost for customers who receive NBC Sports Network.

The US is absolutely terrible when it comes to accessing content when you don't have cable. Now TV in the UK is an amazingly flexible app that lets you pay as you go. You get most premier league and champions league matches on a monthly subscription. NBC could have easily done that with their Live Extra online tool but have their hands tied by the monopolistic cable companies. Cable and mobile deals in America are useless and complete shit compared to the rest of the world. Its about time people stopped dealing with this crap. 7/29/2013 9:59:02 PM |

Stoke's Mark Hughes furious after Brek Shea hurt during MLS friendly
Quote : | "CHESTER, Pa. (AP) -- American midfielder Brek Shea injured his left knee in his first game of the preseason for Stoke, two days after scoring the U.S. goal that beat Panama in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final. Shea helped set up Michael Kightly's goal in the fourth minute and scored in the 19th minute of Stoke's 2-0 exhibition win at Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union Tuesday night. The 23-year-old American was hurt from a tackle by Philadelphia's Matt Kassel and left the game in the 33rd. "It's incredibly frustrating and hugely disappointing to lose Brek, especially in a game like this where you would expect players to look after their fellow professionals,'' Stoke manager Mark Hughes was quoted as saying by Stoke's website. "I really have no idea what the lad was thinking about by going in for the challenge like that. Maybe he was trying to make a name for himself. I have no idea, but whatever he was thinking, it was totally wrong.'' Hughes said Shea was to have an MRI on Wednesday. "We know that we will definitely be without him for a number of weeks,'' the manager said." |

lol. Was it grafitti? The city can't have allowed that?
More importantly.
Bayern are playing like crap. Guardiola is basically bringing in the Barca tiki taka and has taken away the exciting direct attacking football that Bayern had played last year. Players look lost really. Still pre season but I wouldn't be surprised if Dortmund take the Bundesliga next year. Bayern is going to take some time getting acquainted with this system. 8/1/2013 3:25:45 PM |

It makes sense though because the theme is derbies; the slogan they are using is "Keep calm and pick a side." So one car is the North London Derby with the car divided into Arsenal/Spurs and the other is the Manchester Derby with United/City. 8/1/2013 3:34:59 PM |

Liverpool bid £21m for Diego Costa. Surely they don't make that if they are confident Suarez stays.
Also, Costa had as many yellow cards as goals last season. 8/1/2013 8:24:14 PM |

Spurs has spent £50m now and that's before Bale is sold to Real for a world record. Wonder how much of that money was spent looking forward to having Bales fee. If not, they could be odds on for fourth without Bale even.
With Bale they can challenge for the title and are MILES ahead of Arsenal. 8/2/2013 8:01:59 AM |

Paulinho was bought with TV money.
Besides that purchase, the owner Joe Lewis granted the club a 50 million dollar interest free loan at the beginning of the window looking to put the club in the CL spots so that money has nothing to do with Bale.
There will still be incomings. Maybe another striker and LB but definitely a CB still to come. 8/2/2013 8:49:26 AM |

I am still not convinced Spurs can challenge for the title with their defense, especially now that they have sold Caulker. They keep Bale they can finish top 4 but Arsenal have the best manager in England now and that really should be enough to get them top 4. I expect Giroud to have a much better year. If Wilshere stays fit that may be enough. 8/2/2013 8:51:37 AM |
Ribs All American 10713 Posts user info edit post |
Kaboul/Vertonghen/Dawson can stand up to anybody's centerbacks
Caulker didn't think 18 appearances was enough and wanted to be an every week starter which he wasn't going to get at Spurs.
Plus, his mobility, or lack thereof, proved to be a liability last season which is why he was 4th in the pecking order to begin with.
Wenger the best manager in England? C'mon dog, don't be so blatant with your trolls. Amateur hour over here. 8/2/2013 9:10:51 AM |
