Objectively, Tennessee played like shit

But, great effort from us defensively. Two guys I've shit on this year in Anya and Washington came up big and we lose without them.

don't even know what to think right now

I haven't researched gott's records vs SEC teams, but maybe we should start scheduling some of the teams he has historically owned

Brown was completely disinterested in playing defense other than gambling for steals, Barber is a significant upgrade defensively.

It's not often you're genuinely surprised you didn't blow a 17-point halftime lead.

State fanaticism just makes you assume shit will happen.

this win was definitely huge for our ncaa resume, but we could REALLY use the win against mizzou.

if we played like we did tonight, epic rebounds and good contribution all around we could secure a second quality win.

Just got back from the game. Good win but even when we win we leave a lot to be desired. If Tennessee wasn't so good at bricking wide open 3's we'd have lost a 9 point lead after missing the front end of every single 1 and 1 opportunity plus at least 2 Barber turnovers in the final 2 minutes.

^young team. Just enjoy the victory. Most points tonight we had 3 true freshmen on the floor with a true sophomore. And we don't have Kentucky type freshmen that are one and doners. I'm excited as hell about the prospects of Washington, Freeman, Anya and Abu at the 4 and 5 spots over the next 3-4 years.

I came here just to see if face made a prediction that State would get whooped, and if he would bother to say anything after.

Turns out he did make that prediction, and said nothing...for a fucking change.

I thought his comments on Brown were pretty spot-on, but some of them were a bit unfair. Talking about Brown's mannerisms and facial expressions were a bit unfair. Brown was pretty stoic in his facial expressions, Barber seems to show his emotions a bit more. The only times you really saw Brown show any type of emotion was when we were up big on UNC and he was all smiles, he never really showed that aggressive look like Barber does.

I think the only knock on Brown was that I felt like his progression from his 1st year at PG to 2nd year was only a marginal jump in production on the court, and his leadership wasn't at the level I expected going into last season. Barber just looks more "hungry" to be successful than Brown did, but it could just be facial expressions. I have no doubt that as long as Barber is here next year that he'll be the leader on the court for our team(assuming Warren doesn't return).

Good win last night. Defense was especially good although UT shot the ball like crap. ECU game coming up will be tough. We need to have a good start in that game too.

Also fuck you Jibbles. I hope this loss causes you to put on another hundo. Glad we get to talk about this for 2+ seasons now too. Nevar forget!

Anya was actually effective this game. He's sorta like Shaq in high school. He just needs some more conditioning (can see improvement already since the Central game) and to continue being involved in plays (boxing out and high post screens). I see a lot of potential with him as long as he keeps up the improvement. Gott has some awesome young talent and these next few years are going to be pretty interesting.

Good win on the road for a young team, though if Tennessee had shot the ball better than Barry Hinson's wife, it would have been an L. Anya and Washington came up huge with their inside play in the first half to make UT think twice about feeding the ball to their big men (or big man during their 4-guard stretch).

9 blocks between Vandy and Anya. In limited minutes, too.

Great to see some actual defense. Although we gave them too many open looks outside. A better-shooting team will kill us if we do that.

I'd take our chances with teams bombing threes instead of getting easy buckets if we have to choose.

We played some hard-nosed defense yesterday. I was almost expecting the refs to screw us with ticky tack / finesse calls like in ACC play. Surprised it dint happen.

I'm really excited to see Anya's blocking ability this time next year. He'll hopefully be down another 30-40 pounds which will allow him to move up and down the floor quicker and jump higher. No ball will be out of reach.

A lot of encouraging things from last night. We already knew that Cat was going to be the number two option. But with each progressive game, his aggressiveness and knowing when he HAS to score seem to be surpassing Brown.

Anya and Washington looked pretty good also. Washington hit a big 15 ft jump shot, and Anya had a couple of nice post moves. We really need to get some offense out of them, because Nard-dog and Vandy pretty much suck on that end.

Interestingly enough, Vandy and Nard-dog are our most efficient players on offense. Freeman is making 68% of his shots. Vandy is making 71%. His offensive rating is 146, which is off the charts. Now that Vandy can catch the ball without turning it over half the time (2 turnovers in 6 games), he's a legitimate weapon.

We should try to feed it to these guys down low more often, rather than settling for long jumpshots and wild slashes to the basket which won't work against the better ACC teams.

They can't create their own offense or make jump shots. They do a better job of cleaning up missed shots than Anya and Washington, and Vandy obviously has the whole alley-oop thing finally going for him. But we need somebody in the post who we can depend on offensively for at least 4-5 baskets/game.

^^^ They shoot such a high percentage because pretty much all they have done is converted on open looks and putbacks. Freeman is obviously not comfortable creating on offense (see his jumper from last night), although I'm sure it'll come. I'm more than happy with the couple baskets and 8-10 boards he's been contributing most games lately.

And Vandy barely touches the ball inside unless he's dunking it.
