So how are everyone's aquariums doing? It's been almost a year and I am still enjoying mine. My Long Finned Red Minor Tetra and Long Finned Black Skirt Tetras are still alive. I had a hatchet fish jump to its death and another one die. I also had an orange von rio tetra get sick and die. My golden mystery snail only lasted about 7 months, but they have around a 1 year life span. I bought a new one to replace it. Hopefully it lasts longer.
Does anyone know how to make a sound proof box, or how to quiet an air pump? I am very tempted to turn my old fish bowl into a shrimp bowl. I don't want a loud pump running constantly though. 9/24/2015 11:28:32 PM |

I found I'm pretty good at killing fish.
Why do you need an air pump? 9/25/2015 12:10:28 AM |

^I need an air pump to run a sponge filter, if I put my old fish bowl to use. Sponge filters are run off of air pumps which tend to be quite loud. Catching multiple tank syndrome isn't a high priority of mine right now though. I would like to use my bowl though. 9/25/2015 9:17:49 AM |

maybe you should just get ear plugs. i've never had any properly working aquarium equipment to be "quite loud". 9/25/2015 11:04:56 AM |

Air Pumps are the loudest types of filters, then hang over the back is the second loudest, and then the quietest are canister filters, but they even make noise when brand new. My aquarium is in my bedroom across from my bed and I still cover the canister with a towel and sit a pillow next to it just to muffle the sound enough so that I can sleep. There is no such thing as a quiet aquarium, just a quieter aquarium that still makes noise.

Do you really need to run a sponge filter? 9/25/2015 1:47:05 PM |

^Yeah, you need some sort of filtration in a nano tank to try to keep everything under control otherwise you have to change the water constantly. The problem is where can I place my bowl, see it, but hide the noise of the air pump? 9/25/2015 2:34:55 PM |

So I found a sponge filter at the Fish Room on Kildaire Farm Road today and put it in my fish bowl. They have red cherry shrimp too, but they are $3.99 each. I'm very tempted to add some to my bowl now that I have it running. The Fish Room is actually pretty cool. I went there and to Corals and Critters today. Aquarium Outfitters is still better than those places though. 10/11/2015 12:46:54 AM |

I just went looking through this thread to see when I started my aquarium. The albino cory that can be seen on the first page is about to die. It's way bigger now than it was in that photo on the first page. I guess they last about 2 years. 10/2/2016 12:46:36 PM |
