This game is going to give me a heart attack. My chest feels like I'm watching an NC State basketball game

All of this is because Cespedes made a bad play in the first inning. UGH

Never understood why they pitch out with their strong arm. If you're going to walk a guy, why not just rest and use your off arm to play catch with the catcher for 4 throws?

You want the ball to get to the catcher ASAP so there's no funny business on the bases.

I disagree. They just just toss it underhand. That will work out muscles they don't normally use, allowing them to go deeper into games and also improve their overall health and well-being by releasing toxins from their bodies.

We all knew this would come down to a Chris Young vs. Bartolo Colon match up, it was just a matter of time.

Still think no Mets starter is going to have to make 3 starts?

Have the game announcers mentioned anything about Volquez' dad? Reports are saying he died just before the game started.

Somewhere Keith Hernandez just angrily backhanded a tranny hooker.

Big win. Cracked Familia in game 1, made them use their whole bullpen. I love the way this sets up the next couple of games. Really don't mind that Young is probably pushed back or maybe even out of the starting rotation.

He could be, I doubt they'll use him. It's more likely that they put Volquez out there than Young in game 4 now. It's all very dependent on how the series goes these next couple of games. Chris Young is not exactly aa workhorse of a starterstarter. He's 36 and has had more shoulder surgeries than most MLB staffs have.

They never swing and miss... This may be a lot quicker series than I thought if the Mets bats don't wake up.

Honestly didn't realize they were this good. Hard to believe Houston took them 5.

Best contact hitting team I've ever seen.

Shit, this inning reminds me of one of those Bugs Bunny baseball cartoons. Really didn't think they'd do this to deGrom.

Also, on the sabermetrics point, I never did like the idea of taking pitches just to take pitches that so many teams espoused. Often times the best pitch to hit you'll get is the first one. There's so much emphasis on getting strike one that there's a lot of good reasons to go up there hacking.

agree completely. it's one thing if you're just selective and are looking for something specific early, but so many guys seem to be taught to take just to get the pitch count up.

It's an overreaction to some of the really stupid things that old school baseball used to teach. Lots of bad risk taking on the basepaths, too much bunting, being overly afraid to strikeout.

The NBA is starting to drift a little bit too far in this direction now with the overemphasis on trying to get dunks and threes to make sure you maximize your points per possession. It's not there yet, but in a few seasons it probably will be and you'll see some team that decides that a wide open 20 footer actually isn't that bad if the other options are a contested 3 or an interior shot against a great rim protector.

^^He's got it in him. He hasn't been good this postseason though outside of one game and tonight. I actually hope we don't re-sign him next season, or if we do we don't pay him #1 starter money.

He's a high risk, high reward guy.

Damn, Royals hitters are putting so much pressure on Mets pitching.

I'm always super impressed with the baserunning. Guys do a great job of tagging up and advancing even when not trying to score.

Maybe the Mets pitchers would do better if they were used to facing 9 actual hitters each inning instead of 8

Mets are inexplicably a pretty heavy betting line favorite in this game. I would have them favored too, but -140 seems a bit high.

Thor looked strong that inning. Missed strike 3 call, turned into a double. Check swing that was just out of Syndergaard's reach moves the runner over. Botched double play scores the run. Unfortunate they got a run out of that...but on the whole Sydnergaard looked pretty good.

I don't think we're getting a pitcher's duel today.

How short a leash will Mets have on Synndergaard?

^^ made it 6, and even scored a run himself!

Tonight's win (if the Royals don't make a big comeback) is on Granderson, Wright, and Syndergaard. Through the 6th, a combined 5-of-10 with 2 HR, 6 RBI, and 5 runs scored, plus Syndergaard pitched well once he got out of the 2nd.

Morales' indecision on who to throw out in the 6th leading to the bases loaded. That'll make blooper reels for awhile.

He definitely found his footing. Didn't look good for him early on.

Why use Familia at all in this game? Kind of odd to bring him in to start the 9th.
