I could give two shits about gaining 7 lbs during a game (how does that even happen? did he eat at halftime and drink a shit-ton of water?).
But he is in absolutely ridiculous shape for being in his 15th season and logging so many minutes over the years (playoffs + national teams...not to mention he didn't play any bitch-ass 30-game college seasons). He's a fucking machine and playing like a man possessed. Keep this up for another couple years and he easily passes MJ as the GOAT. 3/19/2018 7:09:06 PM |

IDK, but it's his left knee, not his ankle, so maybe it's not so bad. They're saying a strain, but he needs an MRI

last year and this year are apples and oranges, obviously 4/5/2018 4:03:32 PM |

Why would they?
Last year Westbrook averaged a triple double and led the league in scoring...with a garbage supporting cast.
Harden is now leading the league in scoring, took on one of the best point guards in the game and is still averaging 9 assists a game, is shooting better from the field and 3pt, and his team has the best record in the league.
Westbrook is still having a great year statistically...but the team is being held back by poor shooting from George and Anthony. The West playoffs could get crazy if those two could get their shit together.
And Lebron is showing that he's easily still the best player in the game...but when other players have great statistical (and team) years...then media/fans want to give it to someone else (see Jordan years). 4/5/2018 6:56:51 PM |

man this could have been the most exciting/competitive season ever were it not for all of the injuries. They need to fix this season, take back to backs out and limit it to 5 games in 2 weeks. 4/5/2018 7:28:49 PM |

Westbrook is still basically averaging a tripe double and w/ only 4 fewer pts/game and his team has basically the same record with, by your post, still not much help
Harden assists and rebounds are actually way down from last year and he is only averaging one more ppg. His percentages are basically the same.
Look i dont think Westbrook deserved it last year, but if you are an nba writer that voted for him over Harden, seems like you at least have to vote him a close 2nd, if not first again. However, he isnt even in the conversation. 4/5/2018 8:31:14 PM |

Not sure how Harden is being punished. It just seems pretty obvious that Westbrook's season last year seems more impressive than this year, since he was the only all-star level player on the team last year.
Also, Harden has his team in 1st place this year.] 4/5/2018 9:02:03 PM |

Westbrook had a league leading PER of 30.6 last season. It's 25 this year. Likewise, Harden had a 27.4 PER last year and a league leading 30.2 this year.
Westbrook was also tops in the league in +/- and VORP last year. This year Harden is #1 in +/-, win shares and 2nd in VORP. Harden should be the unanimous MVP this season. No one else really has a case. 4/5/2018 9:06:24 PM |
rwoody Save TWW 37672 Posts user info edit post |
Lol Westbrook is the one being punished. He's having pretty close to the same season but is nowhere near the mvp discussion.
Meanwhile, Harden is having a slightly worse season but is now the runaway. Harden was solo all star last year just like Westbrook.
I would have voted for Harden last year and this.
First place doesn't seem to matter much since Steph and Durant were way down the list last year. Harden, Kawhi, steph, Durant all had better records than Westbrook.
[Edited on April 5, 2018 at 9:11 PM. Reason : ^hardens win shares this year are identical to last year, also league leading, and his VORP is worse] 4/5/2018 9:09:27 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148438 Posts user info edit post |
I guess if you're just looking at stats it seems like he's having basically the same season. I thought it seemed pretty obvious why people aren't looking at it the same. He's not breaking a 50 year old record with no other all stars on his team this year, that's pretty much it.
If you wanted to say Harden should have been MVP last year, that's another argument.

Exactly, people voted for him only bc of the triple double, so this other stuff doesn't factor in. The fact that those people won't even give him 5th place this year bc he got 0.2 fewer rebounds per game show they shouldn't have vote for him at all.
I really just wanted to relitigate last year's mvp vote in light if this new evidence that's all. 4/5/2018 9:28:14 PM |

I think he is the only player in like the last 30 years to win mvp without winning 50 games. Meanwhile 6 other players cleared that make, 3 cleared 60, all finished below.
If last season he had averaged same pts but 9.5 rebounds, do you think he would have won?
But if you say last year was mvp caliber then this season is surely "top 10 mvp voting caliber" right? 4/5/2018 9:42:02 PM |

Why not? Who cares, it's the MVP award it's not the Larry O'Brien trophy. When Steve Nash was winning it over Kobe, it was obvious it was a joke. Why can't it be affected by round numbers, when those numbers are an impressive basketball accomplishment? 4/5/2018 10:09:03 PM |
rwoody Save TWW 37672 Posts user info edit post |
Over Kobe when the Lakers finished 7th and Kobe finished 4th still in mvp voting while the Suns were 2nd and beat the Lakers first round
If you think Kobe deserved it over Nash either of those seasons, then I guess I get why you think 9.94 rebounds isn't mvp worthy but 9.95 is

^ Aren't they set up to play the Kyrie-less Celtics in the first round right now? Winning a first round series is a "splash"...but they aren't doing anything beyond that.
Watched Lebron and the Cavs erase a 17 point 4th quarter deficit with 6 minutes left against the Wiz last night. It was beautiful. They didn't even have a point guard last night (unless you count Jordan Clarkson). 4/6/2018 7:29:02 AM |

Westbrook....1st in PER last year...won MVP.
Westbrook...10th in PER this year...generally in the 4-7 range in MVP talk this year.
If you really kept up with the NBA, watched games, listened to analysis and discussion throughout the year, this wouldn't be surprising to you. Its like you're reaching for talking points on a struggling sports radio broadcast. There are much better topics to discuss. 4/6/2018 9:49:45 AM |

^^ You think Lamar Jackson drops 50 yard dimes...so it's not surprising that your sports evaluations are sub-par.
^ Last year was really close. When its that close, you give it to the guy who averages a triple double for the first time in a million years. Lebron is playing insane basketball right now. He was playing it earlier in the year as well...but he did kind of regress to his mean in the middle 1/3 of the year. I feel like if he didn't have that minor lull in his play, it might be a coin flip between him and Harden.
I do feel like Harden is a shoe-in because everything thinks he could/should have won it the past couple years. But that's how MVPs work sometimes.
