^^ I counted the 7 of hearts twice, once for the flush and again, and he had one of my A's for the low. so I had 24 cards of 40

^^^^Here's my theory...I agree that the river is not a blank, and your opponent could have easily had pocket 3's, especially the way he check/called on the flop and bet on the turn to scare away possible flush draws. However, seeing as how this is a loose player, a king high flush is definitely possible (with a 2 kicker im sure ). Raising on the river opens up the door for a re-raise, and then what would you do in that case? Also, if you raise, he might fold and therefore you would never find out what he had and you wouldn't be getting any more money in the process. By calling, you can see what he was actually playing with and take a note of that along with his betting pattern each round and you won't lose any more money in case he does have a better hand 10/7/2005 1:42:42 PM |

All of you are right of course.... I forgot that the river paired the board, which made calling seem a much better avenue. If I was going to raise it should have been on the turn, but once again I was worried about a higher flush so I called. 10/7/2005 7:59:07 PM |

So I went to Foxwoods today again. I ended up OK, despite losing MANY hands. I'll walk you through a few hands in the life of Jim. (If you only read part of this post, read the bolded part).
I had just sat down and played maybe 3 hands, when I got JJ. I raised it to $17, and the guy to my left looked at me and was like "How much do you have left?" I told him and he just called. Anyways, the flop was Axx, and he goes all in. I fold.
Next hand, I get AK of clubs. I once again raise to $17, and I get 2 callers. The flop is Qxx, with 2 clubs. A guy bets $20 into the pot, and I reraise all-in. He calls, flips over QJ offsuit. The turn and the river yielded no AK or clubs, so now I am down $100.
So I rebuy with another $100, and I get AQ suited. This time I bump up the ante to $25 preflop as there are a few limpers. One caller, flop is Q62 rainbow. He bets $20, and I go all-in. He calls with 66. I am left with $10.
Well with 3 stinging losses and $10, I decide not to rebuy. Lo and behold, I get AA next hand. Of course I push all-in, and get 5 callers. The flop is 993, and I end up getting beat by none other than 9/3 offsuit.
So 4 straight awesome preflop hands leave me sitting with an empty spot in my wallet where $200 used to be. I buy back in, and over the course of 2 hours or so, I build my stack back up to about $350 (wow positive again). But then, this happens....
Here's the bad beat story of the day. Actually of my life thus far.
10 person table at Foxwoods, I have J9 of spades. There are like 6 callers, no pre-flop raise, so starting pot size is a meager $12. Anyways, the flop comes KD 10S 8S. Good flop to see. (In case you don't notice, I have an open ended straight flush draw). I bet out $12 and get reraised to $40. I quickly call. The turn is the 5 of spades, giving me a flush. Hoping to trap, I check. The check works like a charm, and he bets out $60. Now at this point, I realize there are better flushes out in flushland, but this guy was a dipshit like no other. If he had the better flush, then so be it. I reraise ALL-IN, the guy thinks about it and calls with K6, with the K being a spade. I have him covered by a lot, but it was still an additional $120 to call. Well, the river is a 6 of spades, giving him a better flush.
I couldn't believe it. Typing this hand out does not do justice to this beat. Not only was it a horrible call (I don't give a shit if he did have top pair and a flush draw) the fact is he paid $120 for a draw. Plus, he has SO few outs. The A, 6, 4, 3, and 2 of spades were it. 5 outs. I was disgusted. Those of you who have played with me know I am not a good loser when it comes to situations like this, and this was no exception. The guy acted so cocky, like he just made the best play ever. I have never in my life wanted to reach over and punch someone so badly in my life.
Anywas, I worked my stack back up to $420 and cashed out, $120 up on the day. It could have been soooooo much more, but oh well. Maybe I'll have my day someday. 10/8/2005 4:44:08 PM |

I saw the black jack thing.
I would put a side bet that I'm the worst heads up player imaginable. I think i'm 2 for 7 heads up. One of those 7 losses I had a 10,000 chip lead (he only had 2000 and i had 12). Granted that's all I've played heads up. I can get in the top 10 in big tourneys like cake though. 10/9/2005 2:06:02 AM |

Woot, big day today at Foxwoods. I bought in for $100 and walked away with over $750. I know I could have made more, but I felt like going home and taking a nap (which I am about to do.) I know it might sound arrogant, but I KNEW this kind of day was coming if I could just avoid getting outdrawn. I have finished up about $100-$150 every trip until today, but at the same time I took some ridiculous beats. Today, I didn't take any. As a matter of fact, I was more proud of my folds than anything. I folded JJ to a big reraise from a guy who was fairly loose. I showed him JJ and he showed me AA. Later on, I raised with AK suited and hit AK8 on the flop. I bet and someone came WAY over me. I threw down AK and told him I'd LOVE for him to show. He flipped over 88, which made Jim a happy camper. Yes, I lost both hands, but at the same time, I only lost about $60ish between the 2 pots vice perhaps $500 if I had pushed either time. 10/9/2005 4:32:10 PM |

Hi Justin,
I hope this email finds you well.
Ok, a few quick things…….I’ve been told down the grape vine that a “Reload” bonus is when you must deposit for the bonus, of course nobody had to deposit anything for the last promo – my bad (and I thought I was pretty clued up on this stuff J). I forgot to mention you had to actually activate the bonus as well, no worries though, so long as you played the 500 raked hands in the time provided you can just email me and I’ll look into it.
Don't forget about the $1000 Endeavour Tournament that's starting up this weekend. You can find this by going to => Multi Table Tournaments => Special => Endeavour Tournament. Remember, to enter this tournament, you must play 100 raked hands 48 hours before it starts. Registration closes 1 hour before the start of play. I'll see you there.
Aren’t Friday afternoons the best, Justin? Going home for quiet drink or to a pub, bar, café or resturaunt for that matter, just generally soaking up the general fact that you don’t have to work for at least another 60 hours and not to forget the time available to play POKER :-) Not sure where I was going with that one, I think somewhere along the lines of…………………Have a great weekend!!!!!
All the best.

P.S. Think ya know your poker…..Answer me this: If I get dealt the 4 of clubs and the 2 of clubs, the flop comes out, Ace of diamonds, King of Diamonds, Queen of diamonds and the turn shows a Jack of diamonds. How many outs do I have?
The last part of this spam made me chuckle.

It can actually be very profitable short term.
longterm, however, it is indeed a money pit.
Just manage your betting system/systems and eventually you are going to go on that little winning streak.
I usually set minimum and maximum bets, i start with 5.00 if i win i bet 10 if i lose i bet 5 again, if i go on a little streak, ill drop back down to 5, and if i hit blackjack ill try to move to 10 / 25 for a little bit.
I guess that is just basic blackjack strategy, but i'm trying to memorize what to do in every single situation so that when i DO goto B&M i don't look like a fucking tool.
All in all i've won about 600 in the past two days, but due to my drunkness, that only really puts me ahead by 50 or 100. 10/11/2005 4:51:40 PM |

i've caught some absolute shit on partypoker the last couple days. went from being up $150 to back even, so now i've gotta buy back in. i'd just get some shitty hands, then finally get a good one and someone would have a better one. i got rockets, and lost to a diamond flush on running diamonds. i know good players can win without the best hands, and i won a few on bluffs and whatnot, but i lost a lot more when i should've had the best hand and people stayed in with shit. this was on the $1/$2 limit tables also
i may just take a few days off to recompose myself then start back in 10/11/2005 8:27:16 PM |

lesson for today: taking shots above your comfort level / br requirements.
if a game above my norm looks incredibly juicy, many advocate taking shots at it. I usually dont, but a 20/40 LO8 game looked mighty juicy last night, so i hopped in.
there were 2 crazy maniacs, and no nut peddlers, which was exactly what I intended on doing.
anyways, 2 orbits in, 1 nut low/weak high counterfeited on river, im thinking this wasnt a good idea.
then Ac2c2dKc in the BB.. yummy
4 calls, mainiac raises, button calls, sb calls, i raise for value, 4 callers of the three bet, all others (maniac, button, sb) call. yeah, it was that sort of game.
pot size is 8 way for 3 small bets, holding 24 small bets.
flop comes 8c 6c 3c
woot!
i intend to check raise the fuck out of this hand. so as expected maniac bets, button calls, sb folds, i raise, all others fold. (i wanted to iso-raise the maniac, he was capping every street with garbage) he raises, button folds, i cap, he calls.
pot holds 24+9 = 33 sb = 16.5 BB
8h.
fuck!
I bet out, putting his range on a lower flush, and hopefully not an eight.
he raises. fuck! i call.
pot 20.5 BB
river a 2.
double fuck!!!
i check/call his raise. The only way im good here is if he was on a low flush, or full of shit. it sucks to have my nut low counterfeited here though, but i have to call due to the size of the pot. the low was what i was banking on after the turn due to all the dead money preflop.
final pot 22.5 BB
he shows 8654 rainbow...
for 8's full of 6's, with a 23456 low.
beats my 2's full of 6's with a A2368 low.
its the garbage preflop that he was playing all damn time i was at the table. that was rough, but i guess i should have slowed down to check/call on the turn. there was just so much in the pot, and the likelyhood he was on shit was way too high.
still sucks to get scooped on in a pot that huge though.
so in conclusion, if you are not comfortable with the swings of playing properly aggro at a higher limit, no matter how good the table looks, dont take a shot at it. bullshit happens to idiots at all tables, at all limits. its not just the .50/$1 tables. 10/12/2005 8:41:03 AM |

would you have played this part differently? the turn kinda worried me, since if there was any time for someone to have KK it would be then.

not that much differently...
i wouldn't fear KK in that situation. most people would not raise with Ks full if they are first to act and hit that flop. 10/13/2005 11:23:16 AM |

OK, here's a "What would you do?" scenario. You're at a $1/$2 no-limit table, max buy-in of $100. You have worked your stack up to about $600, and are the chip leader by about $200. In an unraised pot, you limp in with KQ offsuit. There are also about 6 other callers. Up until this point, imagine you had played like I do. In other words, you don't play a lot of hands, but when you do get involved in a hand, you play aggresively, usually raising or reraising, and seldomly calling. Additionally, in a hand about half an hour ago, you got caught on a semi-bluff but sucked out on the turn to win a pot of about $180. Despite this, people respect your raises and realize that you are at minimum, a very solid player.
Flop: AQQ rainbow
OK, I will lead you through my thought process until the river and you tell me what you'd do. I have just flopped a set with a very good kicker. I bet out $10 into a pot of $14, hoping maybe someone will stick around with the ace or perhaps a weak queen. I get 2 callers. One, who I will call "Loose Larry" (taken from a book by Brad Daugherty and Tom Mcevoy) and another who I'll call "Tight Ted". I immediately put Loose Larry on the ace, but Tight Ted's call concerns me. Tight Ted had played very few hands all night. He had about $350 in front of him, and to be honest, I never remember him raising preflop (in other words, he was a slow roller). The first pot I remember him winning was one in which he limped with JJ and took down 2 people with 2 pair after he flopped a set. So pretty much, I had no information at all about his hand, other than the fact he was calling a raise from the chip leader, albeit only $10.
Turn: K
OK, now I've just made my boat, so I bet out $60. Loose Larry folds his ace, but once again, Tight Ted calls. Now I am worried. The $10 call was suspicious, but to call $60? I hoped he was on a weak queen, but I didn't think so. For all I knew, he could have been slow playing AA or AQ, maybe even KK. But I had a really good boat.
River: 7
OK, from this point I'm interested to see how you all would play this hand. Do you check the river? I will tell you now, I bet out $80 and got reraised to $160. Now I am really shitting myself. I have violated two of my cardinal rules of no-limit poker. NEVER get involved in a big unraised pot preflop without the nuts, and NEVER play "Who's got the bigger dick" with a slow roller. But here I am, doing both.
My great hope is that he thinks I am bluffing, after sucking out on the hand before. Let me rewind and go throught that hand real quick. I raise preflop with KJ suited to $17, get one caller. The flop is 279 and I bet out $20. My caller reraises me to $40. He still has about $60 in front of him, so after doing my best "I have an overpair, I hope you didn't hit a set" act, I push all-in. He thinks about it for about 3 minutes (the table was getting annoyed) and finally made the right call with 66. I smiled and said "Good call" (it was a damn good call) and then proceeded to hit a J on the turn. Suckout.
OK, back to the discussed hand. But as you can see, my betting pattern was very diffferent in my bluff. I don't think anyone doubted that I had the Q at the table, so I was frazzled by the fact that this guy was betting into me. $80 wasn't a bet that said "I think you're bluffing" either.... it was a bet that said "Call me bitch." Him having AA, AQ, or KK were very possible. In the back of my mind, I really hoped he just had Q7 and had boated up on the river, but since there was no preflop raises, I had absolutely no information about his hand.
So here, choose your own adventure:
A: I would reraise all-in. QQQKK is a monster and not a hand to be beaten.
B: Call. I already have $150 in the pot, and $80 isn't a bet that's gonna get me off of this hand. I still think I have the winner, but on the off chance I don't I'll cut my losses here.
C: Call. I think I'm beat, but for this "value bet" I am obligated to call.
D: Fold. I'm beat, there's no use throwing away $80.
E: Jim you moron, why the fuck did you bet the river if you thought he was slow-playing you the whole time?
Now, I ask you this question, what would your move have been if Tight Ted would have reraised all-in for almost $200 more? The same play. I'll post what I did later tonight or tomorrow. Remember children, once you choose your own adventure, you can't rewrite history.

i'd call. because id wanna know, and because i had a good enough hand to justify the call.
hahah what are there, like 3 hands that can beat you? and i dont think he calls with KK if anyone with A or Q beats him. so really like 2 hands he could have. and if he has either of those 2, then you were destined to lose anyways.
when i play online, i think call call raise with a shit card on the river means that they hit a straight on the turn. but the way you talk about the situation, it seems more likely that he has Q7 if he loses, AA if he wins, QK if you tie
it could be anything. poker rulz!@
