The writers know the stereotypes and cliches forwards and backwards, they use them in a devious was to prey upon the viewer. Trust me, if you watch the first 3 seasons, you will NOT be able to the bigger twists and turns.

The truth is that they have been taking bigger and bigger liberties with realism and real-time nature of show as teh series has gone on.

Just about NOTHING in season 1 lets you question anything, but things gradually change. In season 2, people have these instant acting cyanide capsules. Cyanide wont kill you instantly, but the writers need a mechanism for people to kill themselves on-demand. They didnt have to call it cyanide, they could have called it something that actually would kill you instantly, BUT, its better choice for the masses bc of the dramatic efffect assoicate with what people believe cyanide can do, 24 has a huge audience.

Its not perfect w/ the techical side, they have to take liberties with the facts for plot purposes, they know the technical mumbo-jumbo is often just a hand wave.

I have actually noticed a lot of the things agentlion brought up. And yeah, when Jack walked up the plane wearing a hood, that pretty much killed the realism this season had. Don't get me wrong, this season has been pretty crazy. But what keeps me watching the show is the overall plot (evil presidents do it for me rather than terrorists with missiles), the adrenaline (as dF said), and the OH SHIT moments (Jack shooting Chris Henderson's wife was classic).

Overall, I'd say a 9/10 season so far.

I think there are always going to be a few cliche things about tv series shows which aggitate us all over realism.

The hood/cargo hold thing is one for me, as it appear to be for everyone else.

But there have been so many worse occurances of these in other shows that I have a hard time knocking 24 for it.

ha, yeah, shooting Henderson's wife was awesome. I was watching it on my computer and I think I yelled out loud when he did that and my wife came running in to see if i was ok!

but even given all my complaints, i still thoroughly enjoy the show and look forward to catching up on the old seasons

First off, let me just say that this show is the absolute BEST on tv! If not, why would they make reference to it in other shows on the network...I don't know how many ever watch HOUSE but last week, in the finale of the two part show, House was in Cuddie...or however you spell her name's office and they were talking about something and House said "what are you gonna do? Call Jack Bauer?"

Secondly, my brother and I have been watching this show since it begain five years ago and last season, when the real president's plane got shot down, and Logan came in the picture, I called him being dirty! Don't know how he's gonna do it this season, but like always, I'm sure Jack will figure out some way to save the world yet again...After all, he's not going to get written off because they announced a couple weeks ago that he signed on for three more seasons as Jack Bauer...Besdies, what would 24 be without him? Boring, that's what.

I have to agree with whoever said they think this season is just the first in a series of consecutive seasons. If you notice, no one has mentioned the nerve gas in the past several episodes...where did it go? No one knows....
