Just a note for active traders.

There is a real chance that we will see a collapse near the bell. Not a guarantee but look, the quarter is ending. Whatever is on managed funds books is whats going to go out in the quarterly report. Lets say, that Congress looses it tomorrow and decides to kill any chance of a bill.

Financials in particular are going to tank along with Tech. Who wants to have that on their book? Just a thought.

Not to mention all the day traders who were chomping at the bit to buy after the huge drop yesterday who will be selling before the bell figuring it will tank again soon.

If you are concerned about a $700 Billion bailout, you should realize that today alone, the stock market lost $1 Trillion.

^^ been taking your talking points from President Bush? Nice, that will get you far....

btw, if you actually think that temporarily-lost shareholder value among investors and the gov't pulling money out of our pockets to pay banks is the same thing, you're a fucking douchebag

that is a valuable piece of insight you've gleaned.

volatility is nature's movement towards price efficiency.

USB at all time highs despite this shit storm - that's hard to ignore. maybe valuations are a bit rich, and maybe it'll roll over/pull back as the final sign of a bottom. i wouldn't go long many a financial, but if forced to, this would be the one .

k, turning it into the gov't basically buys their stock at a random value that is impossible to calculate with tax payer dollars with the intention of eventually selling it at a profit is basically the bigger picture unless I'm missing something--and if I am, please inform me

Well, hopefully selling it at a profit. That's not really the point though. The point is to get the credit markets flowing again. They just want banks to keep on lending.

David0603: if you sell even or above, you can re-buy soon no? or can you still not re-buy for another 30 days if you will potentially claim the NEW sale at a loss? that wouldn't make much sense though.

The wash sale rule only applies to losses. If you sale today for a gain, you buy the stock back anytime you want. PS, anyone buy any Wachovia this week? I managed to get in at $2.26 on Tuesday.

it's really just there so you don't sell while down - rebuy and hold - and expect to write that previous sale off, right (i.e. do that at the end of each tax year)? as long as you sell for good (i.e. 30 days), you can still write the losses off?

We were just talking about 3K loss write offs. That's exactly what I was planning on doing.
