I can't believe how angry I was just before I left last night. I'm seriously considering not giving a fuck about this stupid team any more and mailing my remaining tickets (and my PLAYOFF tickets from last year) to Jim Rutherford.

On the upside, I won my game 6-2.

I've gone back and forth.

JR's team is not built for this era of hockey, but PK's thrift has a big hand in the style not changing with the times.

I think it was when Corvo went down, I started with something like:

"I'm so glad that we have a group of glass defensemen, so that when one gets hurt, we play the guy we've scratched and waived all season long and put him on the first power play unit. And I'm really glad that all of our players are tiny, because hitting is for suckers! I'm really REALLY glad that we're paying Eric Staal as much as the Sharks pay Joe Thornton, because it's totally worth it!"

etc.

better than that, of course, because my hockey nerd rage was in full effect

I know he's an asshole, most fans know he's an asshole. but shouldn't you at least be in the fucking building to acknowledge a man who's having his jersey retired?

"There was one notable difference in the two ceremonies — team owner Peter Karmanos was not in attendance Tuesday night. His son, team executive Jason Karmanos, stood in for him.

"He was tied up with a previous commitment," president and general manager Jim Rutherford said today. "He was gone for a week — out of his office. He tried to get here but couldn't."

It's hard for me to ever be mad at Karmanos about ANYTHING because the man was insane enough to bring NHL hockey to me in Raleigh, NC. And we did win Stanley.

BUT.

If I somehow manage to put all of that out of my head for the briefest of moments...

What a terrible owner.

BECKET, Mass. (AP) — Three people were seriously injured when a bus carrying the AHL’s Albany River Rats rolled on its side on Interstate 90 in western Massachusetts early Thursday, state police said.

The bus carrying the hockey team home from a game in Lowell struck a guard rail and rolled on its side at about 3:35 a.m., Sgt. David Mahan said. Three people were taken to the hospital with what he called “serious” injuries. Names were not released.

Twenty-nine others on the bus were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Mahan said slippery roads caused by overnight snow may have been a factor in the crash. Both lanes of the highway were closed following the accident.

The River Rats lost 3-2 in a shootout to the Lowell Devils on Wednesday night.

Slightly more details:

Quote :
"BECKET, Mass. - Three players and employees of the Albany River Rats were seriously injured this morning after their team bus slid in snow and rolled on the Massachusetts Turnpike just before 3:30 a.m., Massachusetts State Police said.

The injured people are a mix of players and team employees, River Rats coach Jeff Daniels said, but declined to identify any of them until families can be contacted.

Police describe the injures as serious, but Daniels said they did not appear to be life threatening.

"We were very fortunate and lucky," Daniels said.

Daniels said the bus rolled after hitting bad weather on a return trip from Lowell. It struck a guardrail, coming to rest on its side and partially on the highway. The discovery of the disabled bus prompted other motorists to stop their vehicles on the highway and then try to slow approaching traffic, Daniels said.

Some seriously injured suffered lacerations during the accident.

Everybody on the bus was taken to Berkshire Medical Center. Four people were admitted for treatment and all aboard were being checked out by medical staff as a precaution.

"They've been great looking after us," Daniels said.

The bus was heading back to Albany after playing in Lowell, Mass. Wednesday night. It overturned just east of Lee.

The coach and the rest of the team are still at the hospital this morning."

Quote :
"Three players were seriously injured in the crash, head coach-GM Jeff Daniels said. At this hour, the team is still at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass.

"It was extremely scary," Daniels said. "We're very fortunate to escape the way we did, injury-wise. Some guys are banged up pretty good and they're going to miss an extended period of time, but it's nothing career-threatening."

Daniels wanted to wait until players and staff had a chance to speak with family before releasing the names of those seriously hurt."

I dont know, but their record on Cool Bars nights is 1-4-1, with one being a 6-5 OTL to Philly after being up 5-1 in the 3rd.

[Edited on February 19, 2009 at 2:44 PM. Reason : durrr, 0-4-1 when I am in attendance]

Laviolette: 12-11-2, 26 points (1.04 pt/game)
Maurice: 16-14-3, 35 points (1.06 pt/game)

Pretty much dead even.

haha, pretty random, but one of my favorite moments of glen wesley night was when he walked off the ice for the last time, ron the ref was going for the handshake, and you could tell glen didn't really want to, but he did anyway

god i hate ron the ref

One of my stronger Ron the Ref memories from my days working the RBC suites was after a basketball game.

For NCSU bball games he wore a red coat and was an usher or some thing. After the games, he would raid the suites for food that the suiteholders had left behind. Cold chicken tenders, tuna salad that had been left on a counter for 3+ hours, it didnt matter to Ron. And not only did he eat the food, he somehow did it while wearing an air of superiority over the rest of the employees that watched his feast. He all but said, 'I'm Ron the Ref, I'll do whatever the hell I want'.

which is one of the many reasons i can't stand him, because i figured he would be the type to do that exact kind of thing

i remember when i first realized he was an usher for basketball games

i couldn't stop laughing when i handed him my ticket

At cool bars with steviewonder. just overheard the douche bag mention in speaking with a bar patron who i assume is his friend that he is upset that they announce stormy and the storm squad will be at these events yet fail to mention him too. steviewonder told him its because he is a douchebag and he was visably shaken.
