Yeah, i also remember they fired that coach.

You still didn't address your belief that State signed Bam.

^^^he meant IF we had gotten Bam. Point being sometime you strike out when you swing for the fences.

He was a starter. He is an unknown quantity, so can't say for sure, but I think the general thought is he would have reduced the reliance on Rowan/Cody. Would have given us Rowans O with Cody's D.

Henderson was definitely supposed to be an immediate impact player with a very significant role on the team.

You mean they lost a KEY STARTER and still did well? No way that isn't possible.

Terry Henderson might have added 2-3 wins this year.....

Jeff Bzdelik went 17-16 (6-12) and was fired. Lunatic fringe pushed him out. Brian Gregory went 21-15 (8-10) this year and let go. Did the GT lunatic fringe push him out? Neither of these schools have the talent/resources for basketball that we do.

Probably because we went 5-13 in the league. Just a guess. NC State basketball should never have a season with a losing record. I don't give a shit how many injuries we have. Herb put up winning records with Jeremy fucking Hyatt starting.

The "if" was clearly implied there. Because people are flipping out, and with those 2 coming here, no one would be pulling a Chicken Little right now claiming the sky is falling.

VT's head coach got fired but they hadn't made the tourney in years, that wasn't an aberration. If Gott missed the tourney 2-3 years in a row, then yes, he would be on the hot seat.

Goodman puts out one tweet and everyone loses their mind. Abu has neither confirmed or denied any of this, and the fact that he has been playing with our team and helping us recruit Yurtsen to come in, I'm not sure why everyone is losing their mind.

The Martin twins leaving makes sense. Abu transferring makes none, thus why I never really considered that a plausible outcome. But EVEN if he does transfer, the REASONS for those 2 transfers are completely different. You have 2 brothers wanting guaranteed starting spots next year. You have 1 player that wants to be the focal point of the offense next year so he can go pro. How is that a problem with our staff or our system? Abu knew the offense we ran when he got her, it's not like we lied to him or changed everything up after the fact. He was hoping for better NBA news, he didn't get it, and I'm sure he's upset and wants to boost his NBA stock for next year. Someone will explain to him playing with Smith Jr. will do just that and he'll stay.

Obviously my belief that Henderson would have been an impact player, is based on everything that was said by the coaches and team leading up to the season. He was beating Turner in 3pt shooting contests the year before while he redshirted, he was being praised by the staff for working on his PG skills to back-up Cat in a pinch, and he was known to be a good defender and athlete at WVU. I'm not saying he would have immediately replaced Lacey, but I think he would have been a much smaller drop from Lacey to Henderson than say Lacey to Rowan or Martin.

Okay we get it, you think Goodman is lying and the program is fine. Whatever.

Can we discuss our recruiting? We haven't landed a single recruit with 2 new hotshot assistants and a million scholarships to offer transfers.

The issue is that all our supposed "great recruiting" is wasted because the only reason we get those recruits is promises they feel we either don't live up to or break.

I'm under no illusions here - I'm sure nearly every Top 50 recruit thinks they can go pro after a year or two of college, but other programs manage those expectations better than us. I think, with rare exception, they don't manage them much better than us, but when you already have one glaring flaw with your coaching (being terrible at half the game) you don't have much room to budge elsewhere.

or is the trouble that once they get here, they feel they are not getting any better and thus grow frustrated that they arent getting the hype they expected and want greener pastures?

Recruiting hasn't stopped, the late-bloomers/JUCO/transfers are just taking their time.

Players we're recruiting who are eligible in 2016:
5* C Yurtseven who already visited and should make a decision "in the next 2 weeks".
4* PG Markell Johnson - just reclassified to 2016.
3* JUCO SF Pinder who already visited.
2* SG Gumbs-Frater who we recently offered.
NR JUCO PF Johnson.

Players who would have to redshirt:
Dylan Smith, SG from UNC-A, apparently has been contacted by Arizona, NC State, VT, Clemson, Ok. State, etc.

Landing Yurtseven would give us a tremendous class between him and DSJr.

Anyone who compares Gott to Bzdelik obviously can not objectively assess a coaches talent and has lost all credibility. Bzdelik was far and away the worst coach the ACC has seen in at least 30 years, and probably ever. Even Lowe doesnt deserve to be compared to the putrid coaching that was Bzdelik.

And speculating on reasons that a 18 or 20 year old kid decides to choose, stay, or leave a school is really pathetic. Some of you should try getting out more.

Doesn't Yurtseven have Enes Kanter-type eligibility issues that could keep him from playing most, if not all, of the season anyway?

I would expect Yurtseven to miss at least 7-10 games, possibly more if he commits late and the NCAA drags their feet with the ruling.

That wouldn't bother me at all. You're talking about a 5*, "top 10 player in the class" and likely "1-and-done" player at a position of need.

I would expect him to miss some games with the investigation, but I think most believe he will be cleared in the end, so he'd be worth it even if it was 10-15 games.

can't think of a reason why abu wouldn't stay. if he started developing a jump shot like washington started to (before he transfered) he could could be a draft pick.

Gottfried was surprised when Kyle Washington transferred and 90% of this board knew he was leaving.....

We speculated Kyle would leave because of PT and usage. It seemed logical. But in coach's defense, I imagine Kyle wasn't very upfront with him on his intentions to transfer and I'm sure the coach wasn't just going to speculate who "might" leave.

Just because Abu hasn't talked to Gott about it, doesn't mean Abu isn't strongly considering it. I take nothing from those comments, it's not like Abu is going to go to Gott and be like "hey coach, I'm thinking about going pro or transferring, but I almost may end up staying, I just wanted you to know what all I was considering." Nothing positive comes from that. At this point Abu could just say he's coming back and it's all water under the bridge and Gott is happy.

I can. Unless we sign another big, we're gonna be forced to play small with either Abu or Anya as the lone big most of the time. Freeman has a chronic stress fracture, he's never going to be what he was. Abu played great in the offense when he had another big to work with, plus he wasn't forced to matchup with the opponents 5 on defense. He knows that if he's here next year, he will basically be playing out of position and won't be helping his draft stock/pro potential at all.

Anya needs to center his weight loss regimen around working on his game. I hear playing basketball burns lots of calories.

Howell averaged 7 and 7 in 18 mins as a sophomore. Not bad.. Far better than Anya as a Jr on a normalized basis.

He's been a bust but at this point I'd take Vandy improvement in year four in a second.

they're different players and different styles, but howell always showed offensive promise even as a freshmen.

but yeah, i'd love to see anya finally make a significant jump in improvement this offseason.

granted, don't know what weight he finished the season at. but this did seem like the first season where his weight wasn't an issue. maybe he did gain weight back throughout the season, but i didn't get the impression it was as bad this year. so maybe with a head start on the weight issue, he can focus more on basketball

I just think with some players, mentally, when they realize it's their last year to maybe play organized basketball, at least in their home country, they might put in the extra effort and work. Even if a guy seems like he doesn't care his first 3 years, a light bulb could turn on. That's what I'm hoping. Maybe it won't, but it's happened before.

Freeman is more comparable to Howell in skill-set.

Anya will never be an offensive option, which is ok as long as he can be consistent defensively and on the glass. He was really bad at times last year. He just cant get dominated by mediocre big men, like Plumlee dominated him last year.

Just reporting what I've seen on multiple sites.

I mean if we want to base things on twitter, then we basically have Yurtseven locked up since he is following Gott, DSJ, Abu, Henderson, etc. Also his father is apparently following Gott, NC State Basketball, and Pack Pride on twitter now. He visited Syracuse and only followed "Syracuse Men's Basketball" and no one else.
