Do you require sponsorship? I think you're a foreign national IIRC. If so, that's probably why. The companies that are hiring, are generally not allowing sponsorship hires.

If you are interested in doing nutritional research check out the David H. Murdock Institute. I visited the inside of the facility, and its AMAZING! I would love to do research there, but I found an amazing job already :-) Hope this helps

A good friend of mine just got a job from LinkedIn. But as others have said, it wasn't an entry level position. He had just passed his 10yr mark at IBM and wasn't looking for a different job at all and someone from another company contacted him through LinkedIn and started the process of "wooing" him.

But in other news, after about 3 yrs of being unemployed (been Mr. Mom for a while now), things are looking up. I've got an interview on Monday through a staffing agency. Recruiter guy said he sent over several resumes to the company and I was the only one selected for an interview. So I guess thats a good sign.

I've also got my foot in the door with another company through a contact I have. One of their guys might be moving (depends on if his wife gets a certain job) and if he does, then they want to offer me the job.

So hopefully at least one of the two will work out

Met the HR lady this morning. Went very well.

I then met the director who would essentially be my boss. We laughed and joked the first 30 mins of the interview. The position i applied for he pretty much told me I didn't have the years experience. He then suggested another position that is 3rd shift essentially answering phones. Nothing like I was looking for but if the pay is there, i'll take it while i wait for this economy to improve.

No money was discussed, just job duties.

I have officially been working at my new job for two weeks. I absolutely love it. Its not the ultimate, but I am very much happy with it. I am so thankful that working weekends is few and far in between, which I don't mind at all. People there are polite and respectful, and that's all I can ask for at this point

supposed to hear back from a job either today or tomorrow. super nervous. seems like it would be a good fit for me and a good step professionally. i just wish it was in the same town as my house. 2.5 hours is too far for a daily commute and I won't get paid enough to stay in a hotel during the week

Had a second interview with a software company in Greensboro today, met the big dawg and all. Have a first interview with another in Winston tomorrow. Greensboro job would pay better and has better benefits and is only 10 minutes away (but in a boring part of a boring town). Winston job is downtown, would probably be more enjoyable work but it's contract-to-permanent and fuck I hate commuting. Greensboro guys said they'd get in touch with me early next week, but I feel like it's a pretty sure thing.

On the off chance that the Winston job blows me away tomorrow (and I'm actually offered the Greensboro job), what's the etiquette for telling one company "hold on I want to talk to these guys again."

I'm going through the hiring process with a staffing agency out of Chicago. One of their clients (who is a national company) is obviously looking to hire here in NC. I think i have a good chance of getting the job but i'd like to be sure they aren't screwing me over.

What sort of questions should i ask them? I know sometimes they can take a % off your salary or the company pays them for the placement. I already know the timeline of the job, so thats not an issue.

One of my references emailed me stating he had been called for a position that I had yet to receive a call to interview for (he said they sounded excited)....then like 10 minutes after that email I got a call to set up a phone interview (went to voice mail). After thinking about it, I am not going to do it, I like living close (but not too close) to NC and this position would be in TX (lived there for about two years it was ok but no family). I have good leave where I am at and I can go visit NC fairly frequently. I am not even go to do the phone interview because I really dont want to move to yet another state.

[old] post and possibly outdated, but just say something along the lines of:

"Thank you for your offer. I am expecting to hear from some other companies I am interviewing with shortly and I would like to weigh the options available and see which is best for me. I should have an answer by X."

Never happened to me, but I had two roommates who were juggling job offers from several big companies.

Additionally, if the second company is dragging their feet, you could tell them that you have an offer (don't say who or what obviously) so that they can make an offer before you have to choose.

You should apply anywhere you possibly imagine you would like to go. If the employer is interested, they will pay for your trip to have an interview. From there, you can check out the area to see if you think you could live there.

The offer was from the Greensboro folks. They've given me until Monday to accept (the guy I'm replacing is leaving on the 31st, I'd start on the 1st). Turns out the Winston job was better than I expected and I'd actually prefer it. When I got the offer, I immediately emailed the hiring manager in Winston to let him know the situation and to ask where I stand, but I haven't heard back. Oddly enough, the president in Winston, who I spoke with briefly, was hired 10 or 15 years ago by the CEO in Greensboro. Small world.

So i have my final interview tomorrow (interview #5). I keep running this question through my head and each time I do it, i come up with a different response:

"tell me why we should hire you for this position?"

I want to focus on my strengths (hard working, dedicated, etc) but I also don't want to oversell myself. Any tips on responding to this question?

I hate those type of questions. Though in all the interviews I've had, I've only had one interview that asked those sterotypical interview questions like that or "whats your greatest weakness" nonsense

welp, didnt get the job, bombed the interview....but told a coworker about it when it was annouced again and he had a phone interview and will most likely get the job.....in the private sector he was VP so he will zoom up and hopefully remember me (we exchanged contact info today). Based on what he told me the interviewer said over the phone, he probably has it (though he has to do a in person next). I also told him the questions they ask in the in person interview. Sometimes it is who you know not what you know to get in.....we will see. He also has options at our current place to go into management but this job is his "dream job" if he gets it. This particular position there are always openings so maybe down the road who knows....not too worried, have a job but that one would certainly help move my career.

I did have a phone interview for a position in TX....dont really want to move but they had called a reference before the interview and that reference told me...thus I did the interview..hot as hell in TX and further away from NC (family)....currently in NOVA.
