Recruiting is going well seeing how we are doing this well being lead by underclassmen. Most of our stand-out players are freshmen and sophomores. Making a bowl in year 2 with our youth is an amazing accomplishment. If you compare the number of players who went to the nfl after a coaches first year you can see how bare the cupboard is for DD relative to TOB.

Its moronic to compare this team to a TOB year. After 5 years, if this is what we see that would be laughable but we are on year 2. You can't just start from scratch with a brand new system and no talent and compete in year 2. Competing with teams who have had players in the system for 3-5 years. Thats just not a fair expectation for anyone.

That would be an okay statement, except it's not just the 'lack of talent'. The coach is horrible. In no way has Doeren be an advantage for us in a game. Most of the close games we've had in the past two years were lost because of coaching errors. Last years team was not far removed from our 7-5 bowl team save the quarterback. Doeren has done very little to earn credibility. Not saying we fire him yet, but he shouldn't have anyones respect or be considered a credible coach.

of course he's made mistakes but i'm not sure if any other coach could have been better in this situation.

We have to play perfect and coach perfect to win at this point. Having experienced players will take some of that pressure off.

You guys seriously expect him to walk on water by grabbing a bunch of guys and competing with the top teams in the country in 1 year.

Again, opposing coaches have been molding these players into their systems for 3-4 years. DD is expected to be twice as efficient as every other coach.

Vegas bookmakers don't even have FSU as a top 10 team in the country

Yet mambagrl wants us to believe Boston College and Georgia Tech as some of the "top teams in the country"

Today's game was evidence that we have a bad coach that has not gotten his players to buy into the system. We've played amazing games that have shown the talent of our team. Our team is an average team, but when you have a coach that should still be coaching in the MAC you get horrible blow outs.

Doeren gets next year, but he has to earn his job. He has to go at least .500 next year in the ACC and he better get us into a damn bowl better than GoDaddy.com

Are we sticking with "not enough talent to compete" or have we decided that GT are worldbeaters who remain justifiably ranked and who definitely didn't almost lose to Georgia Southern?

Hope Double D calls me out for leaving with 7 minutes left in the game.

500 in the ACC would be one of our best seasons of my lifetime 8-4. You're DEMANDING that he take us to levels we've barely reached with pro bowl qbs. and demanding this in YEAR THREE. You're never going to be happy until you become realistic. We will still be younger than the good teams next year.

BC is a tough ass team that has their thing that they do well. running the ball. Easily a top 50 team. Thats the only game we lost where anyone could have imagined we had a realistic chance to win. If you took Alabama and reduced them down to their freshmen and Sophomores to match up against BC, I'm not sure they would win.

If you're struggling putting things into perspective then use that thought exercise from now on if you want to evaluate DD. Ignore positive plays for the other team made by 3rd 4th and 5th year players. Even our older players are still in their 2nd year of the system.

Every other team we lost to is ranked or getting votes so the "experts" also think they are the some of the best teams in the country. One of those teams was just the defending national champion with a Heisman winner. Even if we were where we ultimately want to be, these games would have all still been losable. Historically, these are the types of games we lost 90% of the time even with our best teams and best players like Williams, Rivers, or Wilson.

E man made my point. We are a good team that is barely losing to good teams. That means we have the talent to compete but we lack the coaching to get us wins. If we had even an average coach we would already be bowl eligible and we would be looking at winning better games.

AND we've been .500 or better in the ACC 8 times since 2000. So don't give us that bs that 'we've' barely been at that level. Doeren has to earn his job. -credibility for poor coaching/game management, 1 flipping ACC win, and for losing to Carolina. He hasn't earned any respect yet.

When players don't buy into the system, the coaches don't prepare the players, and the coaches make poor decisions things like that happen.

according to mambagrl, the only way you can win is with a team full of 4th and 5th year seniors, and guys like Philip Rivers never beat teams like Georgia Tech or Boston College at home

This is the best our division has ever been. FSU and Clemson are BCS level teams and now Lousville is also on our schedule each year and they are also better than all the old school acc programs. We now have 3 "old Florida State" level games each year.

We weren't beating many ranked teams with Rivers. For each of those rare FSU wins we had a WTF loss. We lost back to back to back games to Maryland UVA and GT in Rivers' best year when we had a stacked NFL team.
Quote :
"We are a good team that is barely losing to good teams"

Well how did we become a good team in just 2 seasons? Who do you credit with that?

Quote :
"AND we've been .500 or better in the ACC 8 times since 2000. So don't give us that bs that 'we've' barely been at that level."

go back and look at the teams we beat those 8 seasons, their rank, their record, the players on our team, the year of the coaches tenure etc.

Those are our BEST 8 years in history. Comparing a 2nd year coach against our best 8 years is why you are unreasonable.

Quote :
"and guys like Philip Rivers never beat teams like Georgia Tech or Boston College at home"

We were 3-7 vs ranked teams with rivers here. 3 of those wins came in his sophomore and junior years when we had an amazing defense as well.

So basically, in our history, we've never faired well against teams like this and even in our best year, we were 5-3 and 4th in that shitty conference. That was before we had a tough division. FSU and Clemson haven't lost to a non-top 10 team in years.

You have to be realistic with your goals considering 3 powerhouses in our division. Expecting us to consistently finish better than 4th in our division even with Saban would be lofty. Expecting that with a team of youngsters is just crazy.

whose the 3rd powerhouse in our division?

Louisville isn't even ranked and you want to act like they're Alabama

and for the record...I obviously hope he gets things turned around, and I haven't given up on his ability to eventually turn us into a good team. But god dammit he's making it difficult.

Well, people didn't see the TOB issue until Wilson was gone and now is wearing a Super Bowl ring...

Also the NCSU vs. OSU 2003 game is considered by a lot of people to be one of the best football games in the last decade. Yes we lost in triple OT, but the rules for OT back then sucked and we fucked up when it came time to deliver for the 3rd time. We were playing AT OSU and yes I know we played them the next year at home and lost by 8 points, but that wasn't the same type of caliber of the overall team we had in 2003 as we did in 2004 (as the record shows...) even if the players had aged.

Not knocking the 2004 team at all but look at the difference in schedule vs. ranked teams.

In 2002 (11-3) we played and beat two ranked teams: #14 FSU and #11 Notre Dame.

In 2003 (8-5) we played and lost to two ranked teams: #3 OSU and #13 FSU (that FSU loss cost us a better bowl game)

In 2004 (5-6) we played and lost to 3 ranked teams: #7 OSU, #3 Miami and #12 FSU, this season also had that heart breaking UNC loss that UNC fans still brag about to this day even though it was proven bullshit.

You can not blame this on Rivers, no matter how good a QB is he can't make up for holes in other positions. Just saying well we had Rivers and we still fucked up means nothing, because according to the NFL, Mario Williams was a better player than Rivers (which everyone knows is not true).

I'd argue that making a bowl this year is more of a product of just how easy it is to make bowls. We suck.

To me, I wonder if DD is just kinda in over his head. He was a HC for only 2 years at a MAC school before coming here. That team already had good talent in place. I think he's kinda learning on the fly a lot. Maybe I'm wrong.

I still say that 2 years isn't enough to pass judgment one way or the other...but he hasn't exactly been impressive so far.

How have college OT rules changed? You still start at the 25. You still have to go for 2 after the first 2 OTs. What changed?

Instead of saying why DD should be fired, how about someone explains what he has done to deserve a new contract/contract extension? I don't see anything that he has done to deserve more time (don't use the bs argument that he 'needs more time' to develop players. he has to show some results and some hope).

Also, even if he does deserve his job still, why does he deserve to be paid at the level of Jimbo Fisher and Dabo?

Yep. Hand picked QB who was an elite recruit. Can't blame it on the QB this year. I don't get the "we don't have talent" crowd. You really think we have so much less talent than the BC's of the world? I'll be livid if we don't beat Wake. They could be one of the worst ACC teams in a while (at least since us last year ).

We fired TOB because 7, 8, and 9 wins were not enough so damn right we are impatient with a coach that has showed us nothing in two years. And for the record, I wanted Doeren, he was my #1 choice.
