^i think we may have been a little late to the party on him. we certainly went after him, but i seem to remember he never took an OV to state...so just how close we may have been to landing him the first time around, i dont know.

Honestly I would like to get Johnson but Newman I am not sure about I fill like he is little bit of a diva. I think Johnson could be a good 3 year player and leader like CAT was.

Newman is a bit of a question mark. He was a 5* outta high school, right? So he's obviously got talent. He didn't play well at Miss St this year and seems to have had issues with Howland there. So that makes you wonder if something else was going on behind the scenes. Plus, if he's truly 5* talent...I could certainly see a scenario where he sits out a transfer year, then balls out the following year and goes pro. Meaning we'd only get 1 season out of him. Johnson is certainly not as highly touted as Newman was - although he's still a 4*, top 60 player in the country - so you'd have to assume that he's not gonna be looking to go pro as quick as Newman. Plus he could play this year and back up DSJ, which Newman wouldn't be able to do obviously.

He didn't have that bad of a year...just not a "one-and-done" type of year that he was wanting/predicting to have. He still shot 38% from long distance, which would have been highest on our team last year. He also started the year with a turf toe injury...which really sets you back...especially for a freshman.

He's a great shooter and very athletic. Hopefully the year off will help him develop his ball handling and point guard skills. We'll probably lose DSJr and Henderson (if he doesn't get the 6th year medical hardship)...so bringing in a talent like his in '17 would be huge for us.

38% from 3 is impressive. 39% overall FG shooter is not so good. he's definitely good and i'd love for him to come to state. i didn't watch him play, i was just kinda glancing over his stat line.

to reiterate what others have said, sounds like Markell Johnson could be deciding this week. between us and Tx A&M.

I watched him play a few games. He's a good shooter but forced some horrible shots in the games I saw.

He was known for his ability to separate and create shots in high school, but he obviously had a hard time getting those same shots off in college -- probably due to his lack of length. Kinda reminded me of Purvis in that regard. I'm sure the turf toe didn't help matters either.

His freelance style didn't jive with Howland's mentality. But the talent is evident, even if he's not the can't-miss player scouts thought he was.

I think he could be really good in our offense though. If Gott does anything well, it's reward his shooters/scorers with plenty of opportunities. Just ask Rowan

i get most of my news from twitter and here because packpride is generally unbearable and there's far more shit to wade through. backingthepack.com is pretty solid but it's mostly just comment sections on articles/posts. which makes game threads and older stuff more difficult to navigate. but at least the commenters and posters there tend to be fairly level headed
