anyone have reception/dropped call issues with 2.0.1?

I'll be standing in place, a call will drop, i'll immediately look at my phone and the bars will be down to 0, then they'll jump right back up to 4 or 5 bars.

shit is getting old

new software fucked up all my shit for a little bit

it was annoying because it took like 20 minutes to restore and sync

in other news, I'm just now finding out about creating your own ringtones for free using itunes and I know its [old] but it's still useful because I didn't feel like downloading any of those other iphone ringtone apps people have

i'm impressed with the 3g speeds. I don't see what all the fuss is about? Sure i've had my issues with the software but its no more or less than any other phone I've owned. what else do you expect out of electronics?

I just got my iPhone 3G today. When I'm on the phone talking to someone the screen well go black and when I try to press "end call" the screen won't come up to let me do it...what's up with this?

THe iphone has a sensor that detects when it's by your ear. When you pull it away from your ear the screen should come back on. Is this not what happens/

It does if it's within the first 10 seconds of the call/ otherwise it doesn't

it will, you just have to give it a second.

And on the dropped call lawsuit note. I've had more failed and dropped calls with the iPhone in my first month of ownership than the combined total of every phone and carrier before it.

Does anyone have their iPhone checking their NCSU e-mail?

What servers did you use? I can't get mine working

the outgoing server that is.

I feel compelled to say that though the iPhone is not problem free, considering the overall capabilities of the device (and I don't mean on paper, I mean actually what the phone can do/does), it's extremely dependable. I'm so in love with mine from day one with the orig. iPhone... Keep in mind it's a hand held computer with a phone application.

"THe iphone has a sensor that detects when it's by your ear."

Really??? What kind of sensor would this be???

What I think you mean is that the accelerometer in the iphone senses when you move, like the flick of a wrist, and presents the menu to you when you move it away from your ear ... or make any other movement with it.

Call someone, leaving the phone on the table... and then move it suddenly and you will see the menu come up.

no it has a sensor beside the speaker. Shine a really bright light to the left of the ear hole and you'll see where it is located

It's a proximity sensor.

Anyone have Super Monkey Ball?

Is it worth the $10?

^I've got it. The controls are kinda tough, especially if you've never played any of the other Monkey Ball games. Supposedly Sega is working on an update for it though so idk. I don't really think it's been worth the $10 so far.

i want to be able to sit in my bedroom with my iphone and stream music off the computer in another room of my house.

simplifymedia works okay but it seems like going around your ass to get to your elbow for this purpose.

i have wireless and itunes on the computer.

Anyone have recommendations?

are you trying to stream it to the iPhone? If thats what you're trying to do I know eyeTV lets you stream video/recorded TV shows etc to your iphone...it may do audio as well.

if you just want to control your music library via your iphone but still have the music output through whatever speakers that are setup with the computer you can download the Remote app. its free and awesome. I use it with iTunes at home, work, and apple tv at home.

Apple should add "airtunes" or whatever functionality to the iPhone. That way it gets picked up in iTunes and you can output directly to it.

so I was looking around the App Store today and found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vay

It's an RPG originally made for the Sega CD, now ported to iPhone. Don't know how I missed this, but I'm downloading it now.

No...

it's a really simple mechanism that's been used elsewhere (some toys I think). There's an IR LED near the ear piece, and an IR sensor, and when you put the phone near your head, it reflects the LED signal, and the phone knows its near your head.

As a side note, this this kind of attention to detail why I love Apple.

Thinking about buying an ipod touch. I'm assuming i should wait for the September ipod announcements? I haven't really been able to find anything on if the ipod touch is being update, just the nano.

Wait for iPod Touch. I'm sure there will be a storage size increase and they are apparently tweaking the form factor as well.

I certainly agree, but I wouldn't exactly call the proximity sensor a "detail". If they hadn't already, they probably figured out 2 minutes into testing that they needed a way to turn off the screen while talking.

I just got the Crash Nitro Kart racing game and it's pretty fun. It's basically Mario Kart DS accept you control by tilting the phone. Unlike Monkey Ball, the accelerometer actually works pretty well and is adjustable.

After 2.0.2 I had absolutely no dropped calls... until today. I've had 5 dropped calls just today, all in spots that I use the phone in normally so it wasn't signal strength or anything. This is pissing me off.

^^are you judging this off of the fact that in the past it worked or are you actually looking at the phone to see how many bars you have? I've never had dropped calls when I have a decent amount of bars. Sometimes I'll have 1 or 2 bars in areas where I normally have full bars...so it varies from time to time.

^Yeah, I was just judging based on the fact that it had worked in the same areas previously since the 2.0.2 update, didn't actually look at the bars. But it was so weird, all of a sudden starting Friday the thing just dropped calls left and right. Nothing on my end had changed as I don't even think I had synced the thing lately. I finally just switched 3G off yesterday cause I was getting tired of them, I've only made one or two calls since then but they haven't been dropped.

finally finally FINALLY they released categories for the 2.0.x firmware. No more scrolling through pages and pages of apps anymore. I'm still in awe that Apple doesn't allow for a folder system of some sort legally. Guess that will be implemented right after they get copy and paste working.
