Beats UNC and makes bowls. Pretty much untouchable at a school with no football history. Not to mention our program is clean as a whistle unlike the school 20 miles to the west.

Mediocre at best. Keep beating UNC and you won't lose your job though.

+100 for maintaining in state credibility.

-1000 for losing nationwide credibility.

bobby petrino would probably win the acc if we hired him

although there is the whole being morally bankrupt/will likely leave our program in a chuck amato-esque dumpster fire problem

Far better team to start off this season. High potential.

We aren't pathetic enough to let beating UNC save his job. Our fans might be but I couldn't see Debbie Yow being that silly. Now Clemson or FSU is a different story but beating UNC in football is not a big deal. Especially when you get dogged by them in recruiting.

We have no history but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to have a future.

TOB should be able to turn us into a top 5 program with our top 5 facilities that we have.

Don't worry, we may start out 1-4 but we will get hot at the end of the year to just barely make a bowl game.

So do we hire Les Miles or just pay the money to get Bill Belichick? That's the only real debate around here right?

Cowher would be great, his win percentage with the Steelers was just fractions worse than TOB at Boston College

recruiting is the most important thing. you could have a 4 year old coach one of those great miami usc or fsu teams and still be top 10.

I'm going to be honest...

I'm perfectly fine with TOB finishing out his contract with 7-9 wins a year. I've never seen more than mediocre success in football and I think getting to that top level is so much more difficult than basketball that I don't think its worth it to re-haul your program if a coach is getting that many wins and doing it without controversy. Let him finish out his contract and then go for the home run hire. This isn't basketball where you can get lucky with a few recruits, a senior-laden class gelling at the same time, or a hot tourney run. When you fire a coach, you will most likely take a significant drop. Let him finish and transition to another (hopefully better) coach.

Our recruiting has been the same the whole TOB era.

He gets solid players and coaches them up. He gets a few diamonds in the rough that the next coach can build on as well.

i rather suck ass for two years to get to another coach than put up with two more years of guaranteed mediocrity before having the chance to get another coach at which point we will still probably suck for two years. get it out of the way so we have a chance of being good sooner than later.

Anyone thinking that firing TOB after this season would be a good move is either insane or trolling

Who exactly would replace him? What prestige does the program have that would lure a top tier coach to overhaul the program in a season or two? Sure they have been some great NFL players that have come out of State in the past few years, but how many national championships do we have again? Oh wait

we don't need a top tier coach. we just need an unproven coach. an unproven coach is better than a coach that has proved himself mediocre.

we need the mark gottfried equivalent of a coach in football.

-solid enough experience with Xs and Os with enough rep to attract solid assistants.
-most importantly, can recruit well enough to ensure at least one quality player at each position year after year.

can we attract someone like that here?? not so sure... cowher is a pipedream

we got o'brien when he called lee fowler and said he wanted the job and lee said "hurrr okay"

i think debbie would take a different approach.

You don't need 4* recruits at every position, every year. What you need is the ability to recruit solid classes year after year with adequate depth at every position.

Whether you're running out a guy who is a 5* freshman stud or a guy who was a 2* project who has grown as a player until he's a starter as a redshirt jr. is irrelevant as long as they can do the job.

O'brien hasn't really shown that he can do what it takes in recruiting to keep the cupboard full.

We'll be lucky to go 7-5 this year, and we'll probably have another subpar recruiting class this year. Unless TOB shows that he can develop players or that he can bring in ready to contribute talent we're going to be in trouble. With UNC's recent issues we should be jumping all over the state's top talent, but we didn't capitalize, and that's going to hurt us sooner rather than later.

Fans should be happy with 8-9 wins per season. NCSU will not ever, everrr win a national championship in football.
