I heard a rumor about the ipod touch getting a form factor update and possibly GPS. Any thoughts on this? Oh and also if they announce anything on Tuesday, when would they actually be available in stores?

for anyone interested in e-reading, Stanza is quite awesome. looks and works great. Shit tons of free books online. you can browse and d/l books from the iphone itself or install the Stanza for windows/mac and use it to synch whatever you may find to the iphone via wifi. all for free!

Many other applications/tools use gps without the need for 3g at the same time ... For instance, bike/running tracking applications, my golf gps application, etc.

So it's pretty easy to read PDF/eBooks on the screen? I haven't tried it yet, but i was worried there might be problems reading the text size and having to zoom in/out all the time. Does the reader automatically wrap the text so it fits nicely on the screen? I want it to function as an eBook reader.

On a side note, does anyone know how long it's going to take them to release the new ipods once they're announced on tuesday? Friend of mine says they should send them out to stores right after they announce them. So within the week.

Yeh it wraps the text. there is no moving or zooming involved. you only tap the left or right side of the screen to flip the page forward/back. you can adjust the text size. I bumped it up a tad and switched to white text on black background and it works great. I started reading 1984 and got to chapter 7 before i realized it. about 1.5 hours of reading.

It does strip graphics and most formatting out of PDFs, though. its text only.


So whats 2.1 gonna bring us?

why does the x1 suck what are its shortcomings? ?

Every review i've read is its as cool as the i phone but has a keyboard.

Reasons i do not like apple:
1 they make you use itunes... i hate itunes
2 they advertise badass hardware but slow it down to make the case prettier than functional.
3 i'm sorry but having the same thing everyone else does just isn't my thing... never has been.

it's fucking HEAVY for one. they gussied up windows, but their iteration is SLOW. battery life is blah for a phone that size and weight. reception is pretty much equal to the iphone (blah).

other than that, it's cool.

it does WAYYY more though, so hopefully they won't fuck it up.

^i'll have to agree. I have windows mobile on my current phone, and it's not horrible and it does what i want to do, but unless Sony does something crazy with the X1 panel interface then the only thing great about the X1 will be it's hardware, and hardware isn't too great without nice software to complement it.

When someone calls my iphone I only see an icon sized picture of them from the contact information.

When somone calls my friends iphone the contact picture fills the entire screen.

It depends on the resolution of the picture that you have set as their contact picture, use a bigger picture as their contact picture and it'll make it take up the whole screen

I have the 9.99 car game thats really popular ... you win better cars, fix them up, like need for speed and some of the PS games. graphics are good, and its fun to sit there in a meeting turning your phone like a steering wheel and watching the faces of people across from you.

On a related note to Air Sharing: I was having trouble with big PDFs crashing when I was trying to read them, so I used pdfsam (http://www.pdfsam.org/) to split them into sets of smaller files that I transferred over instead. These are working much better.
