cause it isn't.

i'm not saying we're playing a tough schedule, i'm saying that we always play easy schedules. shit, look at UNC's schedule. fucking cakewalk. my point is, what the fuck are people all of the sudden getting upset that we have an easy first half of the season?"

I hope you are trolling. You can't be this dumb. You have no clue about basketball.

First: Last year we played Davidson, Cincy, Seton Hall, Villanova, Rider, South Carolina, and Michigan State.

Second Point about UNC schedule:

UNC has a schedule rank of 110 and have beaten #7 at the time Notre Dame, Kentucky, Oregon, and Michigan State. They still play Rutgers and at Nevada. SIX quality opponents. Don't be so biased.

Our schedule is ranked 314. THREE quality opponents: Davidson, Marquette, and Florida. Are the computers biased against us and for UNC?

The schedules are made a couple years in advance, so I'd imagine it's pretty tough to know who's gonna shit the bed the season you play them...

Ginger Kid? Are you kidding me? Are you being serious?

Seton Hall and Rider are good programs. Don't post if you don't know.

Jason Thompson was drafted and is starting in the NBA now.....

also gotta factor in the fact that we didnt play in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Even if we had played their worst it would have been a decent resume game

^^ Those two programs combined have amassed a total of two 20 win seasons and two NCAAT appearances from 2003-2008. I will stand by what I said.

However, I will apologize for the ginger kid remark. Trevor Ferguson is this year's JJ Hickson.

No offense to Ferguson but you are kidding yourself if you don't think this injury is good for the team.

He could have played a valuable role if he'd come in and hit some threes in limited minutes (~6-10) but when your idiot coach starts playing him an unthinkable 30 minutes/game his liabilities exceed his assets.

This is the same trap Herb fell in with guys like Evtimov.

Some guys can help in sparing minutes but extrapolated over large minutes their deficiencies (typically rebounding/defense) by far outweigh their speculative offensive qualities.

Georgetown and Marquette are quality, bottom feeders like Seton Hall and South Florida are just idiotic. Besides, we'd get more media exposure if we took on schools like Oak Hill, Mater Dei, and St. Vincent - St. Mary.

I think it is really telling that Lowe used to be a point guard and we've got a bunch of guards that suck and have not shown any signs of development in 2+ years.

You would think of all the positions he should be able to coach up, it would be the guards.

Towe was also a PG, but they've got to get some real talent in there...they can't coach up decent players into stars

Our front court is solid, but Fells is our only guard with star talent, and he doesn't seem to give it 110% every game

^^ where do you see development? That is the better question.

I would think they could coach them enough so they stop throwing the ball out of bounds?

^Javi and Ferguson are tremendously better than last year. Degand and Thomas have been hurt so much its not even funny. And Mays is a freshmen.

Hell, everyone except Ferguson is a sophomore or younger.

"Javi and Ferguson are tremendously better than last year"

Hmm... tremendously better? lets look at the numbers:

Assist/Turnovers:

2007-2008 (complete season)
Javi: 1/1.1
Ferg: 1/1.5
Degand: 1.5/1

2008-09 after playing one of the easiest schedules in the nation
Javi: 1.3/1
Ferg: 2.2/1
Degand: 1/1.2

Now a look at the points/game:

2007-2008 (complete season)
Javi with 19.7min/game: 3.8
Ferg with 11.2min/game: 3.6
Degand with 28.6min/game: 6.9

2008-09
Javi with 22.3min/game: 4.3
Ferg with 26.4min/game: 7.9
Degand with 12.6min/game: 3.4

I don't see any kind of tremendous improvement and we've been playing SHIT teams. I'm sure somebody will come in here and say stats don't matter though. Oh and don't get me started on the TREMENDOUS improvement on the defensive side of the ball.

Where is this tremendous improvement?

Seriously? If you are going to use numbers to say they haven't improved at least do some math. Fergie goes from .6/1 assists/turnovers to 2.2/1 assists/turnovers and you don't call that a tremendous improvement?

Tremendous probably isn't the best word, but they've gotten better. You made it sound like they hadn't made any progress. And if you bothered to watch the early season games you'd see a big difference between how they played in the first 10 games last year vs this year.

Oh believe me, I had the unfortunate childhood to be brought up a Pack fan. I know. I understand. I live and die with this team too.

It fucking sucks. But it builds character and I'm certain that we will be rewarded.

But we won't get to our reward by shitcanning Lowe when THERE ARE CLEAR SIGNS that the next couple of years have potential to be special.

goddamn, you people are so fucking reactionary. We're still paying for fucking Valvano like we did. Don't you understand that it HAS to be a Jimmy V disciple to lead us back where we need to go?

This is SIDNEY FUCKING LOWE we're talking about.

HE'S SIDNEY LOWE. He's a fucking pimp. He's the man. He loves this university more than any of you mouthbreathers could EVER FUCKING IMAGINE.

you do realize that we haven't played any conference games yet, right?

Obviously they've improved but it's too early to say how much they've improved. Wait until we've played some real competition before saying they "tremendously" improved.

^^ OK, I can give you that. Most of my comparisons are between the scrub teams of last year and the scrub teams of this year. But I think we'll see them play a lot better against ACC teams than they did last year. Don't get me wrong here though, our guards are still gonna have a hard time. Except for Fells and Fergie they're all freaking sophomores and freshmen, and Fergie is gonna be out God knows how long.

I'm just arguing that they have in fact improved. I'm tired of people finding every excuse to criticize Lowe when we got out and play to the last minute with a top 25 team.

- first of all, we did struggle against ECU although we won by 11. You would know this had you attended the game.

- we struggled against New Orleans 65-59

- we struggled against High Point 65-56

And as for me being an "arrogant fuck" and not respecting Sid that is dumb. I respect everything Sid has done for this University, but this thread was created to question his credibility as a head coach in college basketball.

It is at 53 pages right now. If you want to stick your head in the sand and think there are no glaring indications that RIGHT NOW he is not a good coach, then good for you, but please refrain from calling those with a differing opinion arrogant fucks.

And please know that I CERTAINLY hope that you are right & the recruits we get will get us moving in the right direction in the hopefully near future.

glaring indications?

I'd say not.

but yeah, it sucks that we could have lost to NO, ECU, HP, and all that. I get you.

But, to actually be serious for a moment, don't you think that playing Marquette to the buzzer show that we are improving as a team? That's my watermark for Sid-- does this team look like its getting better throughout the season?

and so far, I think we are. we're just not that good beyond our top 3-4 players, and certainly not very good at all at the PG spot. we'll get lucky, BC will go off, the PGs will do well enough, and we'll win some games. Call it a success and move on to next year. We've got one hell of a low ceiling this year.

that's fine, no glaring indications he is not a good coach.. finishing dead last in the league with the #19 player drafted in the NBA says otherwise.

By your logic Herb Sendeck must be some kind of God as a head coach by taking that terrible ASU team and having them ranked in the exact same amount of time.

First, it's Sendek.

Sadly their situations were not that much different. Herb lost his top 3 returning players to transfers and basically started over. ASU was a much worse program than NCSU was.

herb had much more credibility going to ASU where he had already been an ACC coach for 10 years. Most recruits would rather play under a coach with that experience than a coach that had been a head coach for 2 whole years, at Miami Ohio of all places

Yet we have about zero chance of beating Florida. Lowe just can't coach, we have gotten progressively worse under him, but whatever. Give him more time, sure.
