Strangely my trip to Dogfish Head brewery helped me appreciate rum for the first time. Their brown honey rum must be the best liquor I've ever had straight up. Bought some Captain Morgan Black and son I am disappoint. 6/3/2012 11:56:30 PM |

I think I'm officially done with this brewery. All of their "limited edition" beers are watery crap. And they've really been using this "barrel aged" fad as a crutch to hide otherwise faulty beers behind a bourbon front. They have 2-3 good to great year round offerings, but other than that they are swinging and missing terribly.

very jealous of the sourfest.
also, was that last pic from a trade? king henry and Adam from the wood are pretty rare, right? 6/4/2012 10:06:38 AM |
Prospero All American 11662 Posts user info edit post |
yea, from a trade, pretty rare (or rather hard to get people that are willing to trade them). the AC Golden are rarer just not as well known. the Peche was 8 cases, and the Apricot was 14 cases. the limit was 2 each of the AC Golden, so I traded one of each + Cantillon LP Kriek for the King Henry, AftW, and 2 Scuplin' IPAs.
not going to the Snowmass fest, saving my money for GABF (tickets go on sale 8/2) and for the Big Beers, Belgians & Barleywines fest in Vail in January.
might go to Oskar Blues Burning Can festival this weekend, kinda undecided at this point. http://www.oskarblues.com/blog/burning-can-beer-fest-is-back

generic answer...natty greene, highland
you'd have to get 2-six packs though. 6/4/2012 10:53:10 AM |

sup guys
lining up a trade with a guy in south carolina, any suggestions for beers from the general south east i should inquire about?
he asked if i had any interest in things from COAST or Westbrook, which i am unfamiliar with.
i'm in texas. i left nc before there was much of anything other than highland and duck rabbit. so nc suggestions would work too. 6/8/2012 11:46:35 AM |
Jeepin4x4 #Pack9 35774 Posts user info edit post |
Don't waste bottle space with Coast unless he has a bottle of Boy King he's willing to trade.
Westbrook has a lot of interesting beers. My favorite that they bottle irregularly is Gose. It's a german sour wheat brewed with salt. It's actually really good. They bottled a batch in May, so it's possible he may have some. The Pacific Jade single hop IPA and the Farmhouse IPA are really good too. Those are the seasonals out now i think.
Do you know what part of SC he's in? Not sure where Cigar City's distribution stops in the state, but he may be able to get you a few options from there. 6/8/2012 11:51:32 AM |

I've heard good things about the Mexican Cake, but never had it. I'd definitely inquire to see if he has any Cigar City... anyhow, check seekabrew, lots of good stuff distributed in SC that's not in Texas 6/8/2012 11:56:45 AM |

cool. the gose is what caught my eye too, ill ask about that.
not sure what part of SC he's in yet. still lining up the details.
jeepin, i'll pm you his ba gots list if you're curious. it's pretty good.
what i'm sending is 4 boulevard rye on ryes, and throwing in as extras a karbach weisse versa (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26762/72834) and st arnold endeavour (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/337/78927) for some houston flair

been drinking a lot of local (charlotte) seasonals and one-offs lately. But I did find time to squeeze in a few others this weekend. Ballast Point Reef Rye Brown Ale was one that stuck out the most to me. Very sweet for a brown, but not too sweet that it's undrinkable. Thought it was delicious.
Also had a DFH Ta Henket. Bready, herbally, one of those tastes you can't quite put your finger on and you keep drinking and drinking to find it. Not a beer i'd drink often but it was good. 6/11/2012 4:05:41 PM |

Just got on as a part time brewery rep for Starr Hill Brewery
I'll be at Tyler's Taproom Raleigh for a Starr Hill pint night tomorrow from 6-8 I believe.

^^^ as a follow up to that question, the trade was a go with me sending 3 rye on ryes as the main, and receiving bombers of Gose, Williamsburg AleWerks Café Royale, Hoppin' Frog Barrel Aged B.O.R.I.S. Oatmeal Imperial Stout, Olde Hickory Imperial Stout. plus extras on both ends.
i'm pretty ok with the trade. 6/11/2012 4:14:27 PM |

I actually found it on CL
I'll go and administer tastings at bottle shops, Total Wine, etc. I'll also do pint nights at local bars, like tomorrow. Basically I'm supposed to drink beer, give people free beer, and talk to people. Everything is scheduled for me, so I don't have to worry about that. I get to go to the brewery in Charlottesville and train with the brewmaster in two weeks. I'm really excited about getting my foot in the door in the craft beer world. 6/11/2012 4:18:34 PM |

consecration and supplication are my favorites (the sours) and i go back and forth on which one i like best, was drinking them side by side at the brewpub this january and still couldn't decide
for any beer people who are also into wine, i recommend a trip to santa rosa/sonoma county -- can definitely get in some quality wine-tasting and then hit up russian river in santa rosa (pretty good pizza as well as the beer) and also bear republic is ~20min north in healdsburg 6/15/2012 10:07:06 AM |

Beatification is actually my favorite, but hard to get as it's brewery-only release. Supplication is my next favorite (maybe tied with Damnation), then Sanctification, Consecration & Temptation in a 3-way tie. Then Salvation & Redemption. I've had them all, but I'm holding on to one of each in the cellar for a sour tasting.
The Fruition is a Funkwerks beer local to Denver area, they do some great beers all using Belgian-style yeast. This one is apricot puree with grains of paradise, pink peppercorns, and fresh ginger. Should be a nice summer beer.
