I'm not saying they're a shining beacon of corporate responsibility, but I think I remember reading somewhere that they were at least acknowledging/addressing the issue in some form or fashion relative to the rest of the industry. Unfortunately, I can't source what I'm saying, so it gets the ubiquitous "I read it somewhere" citation. Someone else feel free to post a source if you read the same thing and remember where you read it.

The thing often not clearly reported is that the factories Apple uses are used by other companies too, but Apple being the top-dog now, they're the ones getting named.

I read an article today about policy changes at Apples factories, and the writer threw a single line in about Dell also cooperating with the policy changes.

So every electronics maker has faced these allegations. I think the perception that Apple is doing more about it is because 1)they're the biggest company yet to face the allegations 2) their core customers ARE the ones most likely to bitch about it, so Apple has to be guided by these pressures.

I have yet to see it pointed out that Apple is making less profit on the new iPad 3 than they did on the iPad 2. This would typically cause investors to freak, but they're not batting an eye... It'll be interesting to see when labor costs eat into iDevice profits more, if Apple changes their price structure.

I wonder if fears of this type of backlash is why Jobs chose to hoard that 100 billion, rather than spend it like Cook is doing.

keep in mind that $700/month is a higher standard of living than the same wage in the US. It's also worth noting that this is still an improvement over the subsistence farming life they used to lead. It's not reasonable to expect that they will get from there to a US middle class lifestyle in a day. or a generation.

Just picked up the new one at the store a few minutes ago... all my apps are downloading again. The screen does look damn nice. I can already tell it's a bit warmer, but I figure since things are downloading, it should be somewhat expected at this point.

was playing around with the new ipad and it does seem to get a bit toasty compared to ipad 1 and 2, even at idle, but it didn't really get that much hotter of what others were saying when playing games; it was noticeable, but I'll stick to my playbook and nook's. Not really an app playing kind of person. Just need simple web tasks and video playing.

Really wished apple make a damn 7" already. Ipad seems too big and the ipod too small.

Yep. Those cases look shitty and cheap. Like something you would put on an Android tablet or a touchpad. And regardless of whether or not you like my bag, it doesn't affect the look of the iPad itself.

Doesn't bother me at all. I mean it's a nice looking device but i'm not staring at it lustfully while I'm using it. It doesn't cover the most beautiful part of the thing, which is the screen.

I mean I still don't even really like Apple as a company, I was just won over by the screen in the iPad.

EDIT: Besides, the only reason I'm getting a case at all is 1) so I can prop it up in movie watching or easy typing position, 2) so it doesn't automatically break if I knock it off of something onto the floor, and 3) so I don't scratch the back or screen and hurt the resale value if something I like better comes out.
