Me and my friend (p and t) have been ranked 1 in our 2v2 gold division and have won the last 10 games we played in a row and still not getting moved up to plat -- frustrating.

how is there not a W-10 achievement by the way? Thought for sure we would get one after the 10th win

Its not really an enigma, aside from why it bugs out sometimes

A possible reason you guys arent moving up

Quote :
"The second factor is a "confidence buffer" that exists between leagues. That is, if a Bronze player is only slightly better than the lowest-rated Silver players according to his moving average, that is not reason alone to promote him, even though he has crossed into the Silver MMR region. If that player slumped, he would fall right back into Bronze within a couple of games, only to return to Silver a couple of games later, making his promotion far less meaningful. Leagues are sticky, therefore the moving average must cross beyond the destination league's confidence buffer, cementing that player's position within the higher league"

your last few opponents may not be high (or may be low enough) enough to get you out of the buffer between leagues

^Make sense. The system is designed so you never get in the situation where you win a game and move from bronze to silver, lose the next and move back to bronze, win the next and move back to silver, and so on. You've got to be able to hold your own against opponents with a higher MMR for a while before it promotes you to the next league.

It does create some frustrating situations though. I seem to have bad luck with getting promoted. Back before masters was out I was top 5 in the world in platinum for like a week before getting promoted, then once masters came out i was #1 worldwide for a day or two before getting promoted. Then titans78 and i played about 100 2v2 games against masters people before we got promoted.

On the other hand, Alkatraz and I (i think it was) played 5 2v2s together and got promoted right to masters.

Lots of weird stories about how the ranking system works.

After reading a post about MMR and some explanations on TL.net, it seems like our MMR for 2v2 hasn't plateaued yet. It's still climbing because we had so many wins at first against high MMRanked opponents. Since we don't have that many losses it's still going up.

EDIT: Geforce Tourney update: Second match in a row where the guy is a no show. I guess I get this forfeit too. =/ This stinks because it doesn't increase my record. I don't get 2 wins for a no show, it just shows as a forfeit.

It is a dumb system designed to just make players feel good about themselves. A normal ladder system nobody would brag about being 1,586,908th in the world. But you actually see people brag about being 1st in their silver division which is probably the equivalent.

Just keep playing a lot and you'll keep moving up, sometimes slowly but eventually it will promote you.

^^ did you read the link I posted?

When it runs its algorithm may not be known but its pretty well documented how the system works. Hardly an enigma.

His tech switch to DTs didn't do the damage he needed and he was hoping it would keep Puma in his base long enough for him to get the 3rd going, catch his economy up, and then have temps and storm on the way. Why it appeared like he was doing nothing and just sitting at like 115 supply.

The DTs didn't do the damage he needed though to catch up or keep Puma in base and he got stuck. He basically lost the game when he didn't do enough damage early with the warpgate timing and hidden pylon, he closed the gap a bit with some nice forcefields, but the DTs were what had to get the game back for him and they didn't.

The series was pretty epic though.

Yeah I had fun watching it today. Got skyfire installed on my ipad just in time to watch it streamed while sitting at my fiances parents house all afternoon. Pretty epic back and forth games, I'm glad Puma won though... I don't really like MC's personality.

Was pretty LOL though when he threw down the manner mules and then lost the next two.

He really messed up when he lead the SCVs and the one marine right into the hidden pylons.

They have Anaheim at the end of the month, so my guess is early August they'll start to announce the Korean players and we'll know the MLG seeds from the points based on who does what in the next one.

I'm considering going, but it would be pretty much the nerdiest thing I've ever done in my life so I'll have to think hard on it.

i mean, if you spend time watching replays/casts online, you're pretty much already up there in the nerd factor. i too would consider this if there's a chance for some pretty epic matchups.

i went back and watched MC vs. Puma - damn what a series. going into game 7 it was honestly anyone's game

Oh no! Nerds might see you being a nerd around other nerds!

It's not like they're going to beam your picture to every television in the United States with the word "NERD" under it.

That said, if you don't go, use "because everyone there has poor hygeine" excuse.
