There is suppose to be a Raleigh thread on TeamLiquid I think. I saw that they are hosting an SC2 tournament at a place in Cary next weekend. I was going to play in it but am out of town.

Seems like quite a few people in the area are pretty active especially around NCSU.

IPL is less impressive in season 2 than in their first season,

I didn't get to watch it live so I was looking for VODs. They have their fucking preview images of IdrA vs Drewbie link to a page with the results.

Since they now have 3 players in the game, I am assuming to avoid spoiling the tournament since its not live, you cannot see the players food at the same time. Their crappy custom graphics cover up where the replay info could display it.

The intro graphics are worse than last season.

Their vod player is pretty shitty as well.

Buffering issues.

Make a custom game and play on custom maps. Can't ladder with new maps until next season and the map pool switches up.

Been playing a lot of 1v1 lately. I've been using a build I stole from Sen in ZvZ. Basically its 14gas/14pool, first 100 gas to speed, stabilize with as many lings as you need based on how aggressive your opponent is being. Then throw down another hatch, when you throw down your xpo take two gases and make roaches. Move like 8 drones to your natural and build about 8-10 roaches. Then push out with roaches and stop making roaches, only making lings from here. The build seems to do pretty solid damage and should be able to take out your opponents natural if he has droned much harder then you.

I tried it twice this morning, once was an autowin because the guy must've thought I was going mass sling and tried blings.. which my roaches cleaned up easy, the second he was going roaches as well and it worked to perfection, took out his natural and had a huge lead. I didn't do so hot the rest of the game as my third didn't stay up for very long, but it was good game (considering I'm not used to long zvzs).

Nice game

my only recommendation is behind that first push to throw down your third and a macro hatch because from that point on your were floating a lot of minerals and gas.
Plus it would have given you time to establish the third with a few spines or something

^^Yeah that was my first "longer" game using the build. I had done a round of drones while pushing and wasnt expecting such a massive influx of minerals between not spending as much on roaches and all the new drone income. Plus it was 8am and i was half awake .

I do like the build though, it leaves you free to go muta/ling or roach/infestor or whatever. Its a pretty powerful push and better then following up with just roaches.

^Unless you havent played in forever you should be back in platinum in a game or two after the reset.

The reset was pushed to the 26th; so next week. MMR is still updated so you can move in your division and increase your chances of being placed higher.

Yeah you seemed pretty safe through out the entire game. I was just thinking a third down and established with defensive spines there and at your natural for the inevitable counter he would have to do after being put so far behind would have been a good way to spend the money.

I say that, but I'm only a plat player; its easier to observe and coach than it is to do

Had another fun ZvZ with the roach ling build. It really is making that matchup entertaining for me. This time he went for mass sling - I managed to get my roaches on his ramp with my slings up in his main, while he had about 50 lings stuck down in the natural. He tried to counter attack and I just had my main ramp covered with roaches.

Unfortunately my macro fell apart as I tried to micro in his base and I was left with two drones But his base was toast and he gged.

I'd like to know:

I have 0 Starcraft experience. But plenty of strategy game (and PC games in general) experience.

How hard would it be for me to get into Starcraft 2?

Not hard. Just have to learn the game a bit and you'll be fine. Will be frustrating at first but if you have a decent mind for strategy games and a minimal amount of mouse/keyboard speed pretty easy especially compared to the original.

And it basically just places you back in the divisions you were in before so shouldn't be much of a mystery. Just placed masters in all divisions tonight despite playing with some horrible partners and not playing great.

so I finally won a couple. one ZvT where i just baneling busted him and his drops were late and ineffective.

and finally a ZvZ where i got roach fast and held off his baneling attack and just poured on the aggression until he made the mistake of going for mutas to my roach/ling 'all in'. Wasnt technically all in since i expanded and droned behind it

If i can figure out how to use a replay site ill upload them for pointers, top 8 plat! at least for a bit while everyone else is getting more points than me

^^^ I had minimal SC experience when I started playing SC2. I had played a lot of AoE, C&C, TA, etc. Never anything competitive online. I'd say I'm decent at SC2 now (masters level).

It's about 10 years old. On a shitty mousepad.

I know for sure it effects me sometimes (theres times where it gets caught on the mousepad or falling off). But I dont think it would make a huge difference. My APM actually has increased quite a bit, I started at around 60, thought I peaked at around 80 and now I'm hitting 100 for the game every now and then.

I have a razor mouse but from what I've read it really isn't ideal for RTS games since it is a bit bigger than you'd ideally want. It works for me though.

My keyboard is also bigger than you'd probably want as well, but I had both setup for playing MMO games and not RTS. I know a different keyboard would help to make it easier to reach hotkeys.

That is the same mouse I have which works fine, but your keyboard is much better for this game than mine. I really want to switch but I bought this one not long ago so don't want to get rid of it just for a game.

MLG should be pretty good this weekend, lots of good matches/big name players.

Also, finally won a fucking 1v1 match after starting off on a massive losing streak mostly from not knowing which maps to thumb down, not knowing the maps in general, or forgetting that start of ladder season = cheese.

Had 0 Starcraft experience when I started last July. Got hooked before the game came out based off replays. Played Age of Empires, but not at all competitively. Play Command and Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 with friends. All my competitive video gaming was on Xbox (Halo Wars, Mechassualt, Halo, etc.)
