Agreed, but Palmer's hand is clearly injured. He's going to struggle throwing the ball.

Fitz is taking roughly 60% of the snaps from the slot these days. Norman will probably be matched up on Floyd. Finnegan will have his work cut out for him this week.

Think last game Fitz moved back outside for most of the game, but he will definitely be coming out of the slot against us.

I doubt it. I think a big part of the reason we give up big leads in the 2nd half of games is that our defensive line gets tired and it's not very deep. Certainly it seems like we always get pressure with 4 in the first half of games and have to rely on blitz packages in the 2nd half to get similar results.

You realize we will replace him with a better defensive end, right? The next man up from the practice squad will be more than adequate from a depth position concerning Allen.

Ealy most likely.

Let me add that I love me some Jared Allen, but he had become nothing more than a luke warm body from a production standpoint.

"Kearse torched us yesterday, and all three of the Cardinals wideouts are better than him."

this is 100% true. But RW gets his receivers more than double the amount of time to break coverage before they are thrown to vs. Palmer. Just watch that game where SEA torched ARI, you can clearly see the difference - and how SEA rushed Palmer into throws the whole game. Its the same way you beat Tom Brady...

In my mind, that puts the overall SEA pass attack right up there with the ARI pass attack (despite ARI having much better receivers).

Also: RW torched us on runs, but we stuffed their RBs. I am not scared at all by Palmer and Johnson rushing attack, so we can play back more vs. their pass.

What I havent figured out yet is: do we like playing the ARI defense better than the SEA defense?

If I was a neutral fan of the game I'd agree, but Panther fans should have loved this game other than the fake-punt and the minute leading up to the onside kick. If the NFC championship game goes EXACTLY the same way (get ahead early and don't screw it up), I will be just as thrilled as if it's a nail-biter beginning to end.

Cardinals game might start the same way, but not have the late surge in the 2nd half by the Cardinals. At least, I hope that's how it goes.

Look how far we've come from last year's Seattle playoff game:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzNGwv6GEUA

to this year's:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1knwLceAAa0 (can't embed NFL youtube)

And in the first one... just makes you optimistic about this offense with Benji back next season. Maybe RW can sign with us to replace Joe Webb as the practice team QB?

Russell would be the absolute perfect backup for Cam. We could run the same offense if Cam went down, (sans a few of the more "hardcore" QB runs due to Rdubs being a bit smaller), but still.

Would be perfect, and he would be fan favorite for sure.

They showed an Infographic on ESPN this morning showing that statistically our team is better with Allen on the field than off since he joined the team.

I saw that and wondered how much of that was due to what downs/situations Allen played. But doenst Allen typically play all 3 downs?

I do remember one play where he read the screen and contained Wilson from rolling out...then Wilson got sacked for a 10 yard loss. Carolina's line is athletic/disruptive enough at other position...I think Allen plays the "veteran/experience/smart" role. Value can't be measured by stats...except by ESPN I guess.

Allen is a glue guy. He's always pumping up the line, raising up his hands to get the crowd involved early. There are certainly some intangibles that will be missed if he can't suit up.

If dudes need to be pumped up with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line, we got bigger problems than depth at DE.

If Charlotte gets an inch of ice this weekend, this game will be an absolute shitshow. The field was sloppy enough last week.

The aerial views of the stadium are going to be downright creepy with the rest of the city blacked out in the background.

^ that's good, I think. Our line is better, we will run the ball better (we are a running team). That should limit their WR's explosiveness (their strength). The will probably rely on Fit'z's elusiveness so as long as our DB's and LB's can tackle in space, that will be to our advantage.

A bad field could be the best defender we have against the passing attack from Arizona.

I think it's the opposite; neither team will move the ball on the ground, and it will come down to who can chunk the ball down the field when someone in the secondary slips and falls. That type of game is a toss-up.

Haha, agree to disagree. The bad field should totally wreck all timing on passing, which could lead to either picks or more likely it'll lead to slower routes developing and more pressure on the QB. I mean yeah you might have the occasional busted play, but those happen in games with good fields.

the Cardinals have the benefit of playing on the best turf in the NFL at home

so anything that turns our field into a mess is a big advantage for us

As a Cardinals fan I disagree. If it comes down to a run related game, the panthers are at a disadvantage. You don't have the backend of the defense like Arizona does. A Stacked box...would you rather have Carolina's Rbs or Arizona's?

not to mention that means little slip screens and jet sweeps for Arizona's RBs and WRs...The offense is sooooo diverse, I think the Cardinals win...but it comes down to Panthers offense hanging with Arizona.

the Panthers are one of the best rushing teams in the league....

2nd in rushing offense, 4th in rushing defense

and who do you think would be at the backend of a stacked box? because there is absolutely no comparison between the Panthers front 7 and the Cardinals front 7

They're basically the saints offense with a way better defense...and you see what Drew Brees did to the Panthers.

if the field is bad, Calais Campbell isn't gonna be able to get his footing for a pass rush, and Cam will have all day to pick apart their overrated secondary.

Quote :
"you see what Drew Brees did to the Panthers."

lost?

Brees went 24/42 for 282 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT. That's what Drew Brees does to everyone. Brees, btw, is better than Palmer.

I wouldn't say Arizona's offense is diverse either. It's a bunch of dump off screens and quick passes, or they max protect to throw the deep ball. They are pretty much a passing team. When Carolina stuffs the run, they'll probably become pretty one-dimensional. You are aware that the Panthers have the #1 scoring offense in the NFL, right?

whats up with Palmer? He made some shit throws last week, shouldve been picked 2-3x more than he was. Almost looked like something was physically wrong with him. It was only his 2nd true playoff game so maybe it was nerves.

If Palmer from last week shows up(in other words if the entire offense runs through Fitzgerald), then I am not too terrified as a Panther fan.

As far as rushing attacks go, Arizona has struggled against the top rushing Ds in the league. Small sample size, but Carolina's rushers have torn apart every defense they have faced with no regard for rankings

Arizona rushing yds against top 10 Rushing D.

SEA(1st) : 27
SEA(1) : 117
PIT(5) : 55
CIN(7) : 83

Carolina:

Seattle(1) : 135
Seattle(1) : 144
Houston(10) : 172
Tampa(11) : 133
Tampa(11) : 111

Added Tampa because they had the misfortune of playing us twice... Had they been able to omit the Panthers from their Rushing stats, they wouldve finished the season ranked 8th in Rushing D

They might bust a long run on us but for the most part this year, I love it when teams try to rush on us on 1st down, especially early in the game since it gets nothing and wastes a down

not that ill miss Allen a ton, or I think our line will... but it didnt look good how pissed he obviously was about it when the media caught him in the locker room. The last thing this team needs is locker room negative energy when positivity has been our breadn'budda all year...
