Apparently it wasn't that forgone until Leque committed. State's selling point was a chance to play pg.
And regardless, after Leque we were seriously involved with 2 bball recruits, in the last 3 days they both committed elsewhere. So that sucks.

so some folks on IC are predicting that Lecque never plays for us. Are they just hating or is there any thing to be concerned about? 10/8/2018 9:06:58 PM |

Well apparently right now he can't shoot, so unless he becomes a 40% 3 point shooter this year, he's not going pro straight from high school. 10/8/2018 9:16:11 PM |

yeah Lecque is eligible to go pro. but it seems pretty unlikely he will. i don't think we're too worried about that...in fact, he seems more like a 2-3 year player than a one and done. 10/9/2018 6:46:36 AM |

Dorn, Walker, and Lockett will all 3 be gone, right? So we should have at least 3 open scholarships (2 when you count Lecque). nvm, walker has 2 years left.
Then there's always the chance for an early departure to the NBA or a transfer.

I was under the impression we were only looking for 2. I'm not sure if that's scholarship limits or coach desires, though.

We'll be involved in the traditional transfer and post-grad transfer market. Wouldn't be surprised if Lecque was the only HS commitment we took this class. 10/9/2018 1:47:31 PM |

I think Keatts knew his odds were low but there was certainly a risk/reward for investing so much time into Moore.
We had a small class and Keatts only wanted the top HS guys, and it makes sense, we just don't have a ton of PT to offer at this point save for some guys blowing up and going pro early.
A traditional transfer actually makes a LOT of sense right now, esp given just how deep the team is, a redshirt for 2019 would be a solid option. I don't see us really picking up a post-grad barring early attrition or it being apparent we have a major deficiency at one position. 10/10/2018 9:26:49 AM |

Williams was a much bigger miss than Moore. Moore was always gonna be an uphill battle. Williams was the guy we were "supposed" to get 10/10/2018 10:11:05 AM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
We lost Williams once he decided he wanted a lot of PT as a FR and saw himself as a early NBA entry.
No way he was cracking the starting lineup for us next year and would have struggled to get a ton of PT for us. 10/10/2018 9:16:37 PM |

I see no reason for a 5* player to sign their LOI. They have all of the leverage and it just causes a headache if they change their mind later. 11/15/2018 9:24:08 AM |

https://packinsider.com/2018/11/21/5-star-2019-pg-jalen-lecque-signs-loi-to-play-for-nc-state/
Quote : | " RALEIGH, NC. – NC State men’s basketball head coach Kevin Keatts announced Wednesday that Jalen Lecque has signed a national letter of intent to attend NC State and play basketball for the Wolfpack.
The Teaneck, NJ, native is listed as a five-star recruit by ESPN and Rivals. ESPN ranks him as the No. 22 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class. He is also listed by USA Today as a member of the Chosen 25, which is a ranking of the top recruits in the 2019 class. Lecque is currently playing his senior season at prep school powerhouse Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., under head coach Jason Smith.
He played his junior year at Christ School in Arden, N.C. During his one season at Christ School, Lecque averaged 20.1 points, 9.3 assists and 9.1 rebounds a game for the Greenies while leading the program to a 23-13 overall record and a second round NCISAA playoff appearance.
Lecque played for Team Renaissance on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 21 games.
Lecque is the son of Derrick and Michelle Lecque.
Coach Keatts on Jalen Lecque: Jalen is the most explosive player in the 2019 class and has become one of the premier playmakers in the country. He’s a dynamic point guard who is great at getting into the lane and finishing at the rim or creating offense for his teammates. Jalen fits the mold of everything we are looking for in a guard in our system and has the potential to become a lockdown defender. Jalen checks off all the boxes we look for in terms of recruiting a total student-athlete. He will be a great asset to not only our program, but to the entire NC State community. We look forward to welcoming Jalen and his family to Wolfpack Nation.”" |

after watching our first few games I'm now pumped about lecque. i think whatever issues he has keatts is much better at addressing than say our last coach wouldve been and we're going to actually need the talent injection. our roster right now has like four guys that would be really solid #3 options, one guy who is a #2 (who is graduating) and absolutely zero top end talent
theres probably a limit on the level of recruiting you can hit with this play style because you need guys who are going to play hard, but I do think the next leap will be uplifting our talent from "guys who were too good for their mid major team" to actual high major talent. 11/21/2018 2:07:33 PM |

Looking at our roster it is interesting to see this mishmash of talent. Only 3 players on the roster started school at State, and that is Johnson, Hellems, and Bates. I know part of that is Keatts just trying to find talent to fill the gaps, but it also is a good indicator of how future college basketball rosters might look, particularly once they relax some of the transfer rules to be less punitive to the players. 11/21/2018 2:21:57 PM |
