I used either double underhand or overhand grips. I have never used mixed. The dead lift is with 50lb dumbbells in each...n00b.

I am not talking about underhand with the dead lift. that is when I do other moves.

o ok, you're using dumbbells for deadlifts?

mixed grip only pertains to using a barbell...one hand supinated, the other pronated

Yeah, I do dumbbells for dead lifts. Is that not good? I am trying to be dependent upon my own stability but if you think I should use a bar to do them, I will do that. I want to get the most out of my lifting, I guess. Whatever is the best way.

the only thing I think you should do differently is lift weights before cardio

other than that, you're doing fine

^^ you'll be limited on the amount of weight you can use by just using DBs

I would switch to barbells and go with the mixed grip. Keep doing Romanian deadlifts until you can perform reps with 135...and then put the bar on the ground and try conventional deadlifts.

if you use a mixed grip, alternate which hand you have pronated and which hand you have supinated every set.

I would think she can still get some good use out of dumbbell deadlifts, being able to gain some stability from having to manage heavy dumbbells. I agree entirely that it would eventually get very difficult to do them with the higher weights, so maybe she can combine conventional deadlift with DBs along with Romanians until she can comfortably perform a conventional deadlift with 135. Though the grip may be too limiting...

Why do you guys say to switch the grip on deadlifts between sets? Just to ensure equal muscle use between each arm?

--

Not much to report here. Did a lot of biking and walking over the weekend and my knee was sore as fuuuck, but its feeling a little better today. I can still feel its not quite right, but will continue my 4-day workout plan prescribed by Packman.

^probably to make sure there's balance

I usually try to use my weaker mixed grip until it start limiting how much weight I'm moving...and then I switch to my dominant grip

so is it possible to gain 10 pounds in less than 2 weeks?????

i was on vacation and things were a bit hectic last week so i didn't get to work out as much as i normally do and i know on vacation i splurged a bit more on eating the bad for me foods but seriously....it's not like i laid up in bed for 2 weeks and didn't move around at all.

is this normal? i'm wondering if i should go to the doctor.

Could someone in here with some nutritional expertise please go to this thread in the Soap Box --> message_topic.aspx?topic=577207&page=6 and explain to hooksaw that milk is better for you than Coca-cola? I thought it was common knowledge but apparently not and he won't get off my nuts. Thanks.

^^^^ You didn't gain 10 pounds of fat. Wait a few days and then weigh yourself again and it'll probably go down several pounds. You probably ate more restaurant/processed (read: SALT) foods than you normally do and are holding on to a bunch of water weight.

your supinated arm will get more tension on the bicep than your pronated arm. If you do it the same way all the time, you could end up with a severe muscle imbalance or potentially tearing a bicep tendon.

if your scale says you gained 10 pounds then I'm pretty sure you gained 10 pounds.

well i mean duh, i know my scale isn't lying....i just didn't know if it was possible to pretty much gain a pound a day over the course of 10-12 days it wasn't like i was laid up in bed eating angus burgers from mcdonalds. i just didn't know if it was humanly possible for it to happen.

my concern is if i should go to the doctor or not and see if something else is going on.

Ok cardio-haters who are good at/like basketball. We're going to start playing. Anywhere. I don't care. But WE ARE going to start playing. Period. Who is in?

I know Quinn and porcha have mentioned playing before. I don't really care where we play -- outside. inside. north raleigh. downtown. cary. Wherever. Lets get a group together who will actually play consistently.

I'm so sick of running. I want to play an hour or two of basketball to substitute my jogs three days a week or so.

I don't even feel it anymore, but I'm going to hold off on doing back squats for a couple of weeks just in case. Pain like that worries me that I'm about to seriously screw something up.

It's hit or miss. Sometimes I feel like I could, sometimes I don't.

But to answer your question. I don't want to do anything after plyo.

Over a long beach weekend I once jumped from 185 to 193. Basically ate poorly for 3-5 (one day I went to Red Lobster with a group and we ordered way too many appetizers) and drank as much as I felt like.

I've been out of town the last two weekends (4 days in Long Island, NY and 2 days in Manteo, NC) and with all the eating out and binge drinking I'm not even going to try to comprehend my caloric intake over those periods I've also been unable to get to the gym a lot during the work week over those 2 weeks so I'm gonna try to go every day this week (except tomorrow, donating blood so no gym that day).

It's been about a month since I posted pics so I'll take some new photos and post my weight later tonight.

Ha, I haven't consistently played organized pickup in a year or so, but we used to play for 2-3 hours of full-court games and man I could barely walk the evening following playing, lol.

*** I don't really know a good place to play around here that is reasonably close to people. I live near downtown so am pretty flexible. Someone throw some suggestions out there and we can get a group that can go.
