okay, so these LEDs are rated at a forward voltage of 3.2~3.8, which isn't a problem since the batteries will be providing 4.5V (unless, of course, i do what i'm considering and make some 3AAA/1D adapters and use NiMH batteries which would give it about 3.6V which is perfect)...

well, that's not so much the problem as the fact that the maximum operating current is about 30mA with a peak of about 75mA...so what size resistors should i get? RadioShack has some 220 ohm resistors and some 330 ohm ones...ideally, i need about 280-285 ohm resistors

if i put in the 220's, then the LED is going to glow more brightly...but also be hotter and it will wear it down to a life of about 15,000 hours instead of 100,000 hours...big deal? perhaps not

if i put in the 330's, then the LED isn't going to glow as brightly as it should (which is annoying because i want it to be brighter than the incandescent bulb i have in there now)...but i'll get 100,000 hours of light out of the diode

your opinion? realize that these LEDs only cost about $.40/each, and the resistors are the same price (about $.20/each)
