I think he's the bassist for all those bands, in fact.

But yeah, I don't have anything bad to say about Mark.

And I have no idea about the other dudes in those bands, except for what I said about bag-of-douche Jaeger...

I don't know much about the other members, but Bright Young Things' drummer is hardly mediocre.

i might have to go to that best coast show now that they've announced a tour-only single

despite the fact that i've seen them both live before and meh

also, i believe the secret middle band for our show with the love language on the 15th will be announced tomorrow

yea, the meh part helps re: not being able to go. but still, absent other obligations or exciting things, i'd still prob have gone, given the choice. unless it is one of those $20 shows. then i'd boycott.

i am also prob missing you + the love language too. sad face

Lauryn Hill is coming to the Music Farm in Charleston next Wednesday. I'm pretty fucking pumped about it. I hope she has a big band and just tears it up. Anybody seen her live?

i'd like to think she has her shit together after twelve years and who knows how many millions of dollars without a record to show for it, but i dunno

for sure. "lemonade" has been floating around for a while and got me excited about the LP, but i'm definitely impressed with how the rest of the album panned out. unfortunately, i don't think i'm going to be able to make this show.

Consider the Source.

These guys are going to be in Durham at Motorco on the 19th.

Anyone with an interest in prog or an appreciation for talent should definitely check it out. They're playing in Charlotte on the 20th and I'm hoping to go to both.

Seriously, they're incredible.

How is motorco? I was considering going there to see Less Than Jake (blah blah ska sucks), and then I looked just now and saw that they only play for an hour, and you have to pay a bunch of money because they're playing on the bill with a ton of other bands for some record company anniversary.

Only show I'm looking forward to that I know of is the Pietasters at Cat's Cradle in February. If I didn't work, I'd probably check out Against Me! also.

One thing I miss about living in the northeast is having good shows basically nonstop.

wait what

there are pretty good shows pretty much nonstop here

or are you just saying you wish there were good ska and punk shows nonstop?

Go out and support Motorco. They put a lot of work into that place, and the atmosphere is pretty great. The sound isn't bad, either. If I had to rank it next to the Pour House, Tir Na Nog (a joke), etc, I'd say it's the best venue for all things considered, though they're not close to Lincoln on the acoustics, in my opinion...

PS - the service is also good (unlike Tir Na Nog), and it's right across from Fullsteam Brewery. Good, tucked-away location, and all-in-all, no complaints here...

^^^

I suppose I got spoiled going to school outside of manhattan, and living in between two fairly good sized cities before that. It's not that there aren't good shows here, it's just that most of them are local bands. A lot of (nationally touring) bands I used to see before seem to usually skip NC altogether.

Also, I don't think I've been to a ska show in years.

^

I'll definitely have to check it out at some point. Just from the pics on the website, it seems like a pretty cool place. Isn't it like relatively new or something? Or re-opened recently?

Then the bands you were seeing are probably shit.

Yo La Tengo are doing two nights here, just as an example.

Motorco is a converted commercial garage that opened a few months ago.

Anyone interested in carpooling, let me know.
