posting my confession from last night on this page - got buried by egg BS

Sometimes I question why I was born when I was. Everything about me, my manner of speaking, my likes, my comforts, my morals all point to the by-gone ages that our grandfathers grew up in. If I was born when I wanted, I'd be 91 years old now. 91! It was more normal for a lad of 20 to be graduating college in 1937. What was NC State, Raleigh, North Carolina in 1937? Mere shadows of what were to come. US 70 was Glenwood, as it is, but Hillsborough Street was US 1, and Western was US 64, and these were the only three real major roads of this quiet Southern capitol. State was, as now derided, then proudly, the home of scholar farmers and engineers. Slowly, but surely, you were digging yourselves out of the Depression. On some quiet spring evening, you could walk down Clark Street or some other residential road and hear the President talk about how he was going to save the New Deal by packing the [Supreme] Court. But odds are in 1937, I'd have never moved to North Carolina, I'd be going to some Northern college. But it's not 1937, the Navy I've joined isn't going to be fighting the great World War II, and I'm in Raleigh. May, and my commission and departure from Raleigh, seem to come too slowly. But I guess I'm tired of more than just this old town; I'd be making this same confession in Miami or Madawaska. I'm tired of trying to be a decent guy. It hasn't gotten me anything except the ridicule of my peers, the sneers of strangers. To some, I'm a creep, to others, a "fag," or the butt of jokes to more than a few Sailors and Marines. But these are the guys I would die for. All you here on TWW, I would die for too - blindly and stubbornly, I cling to the notion that there is still something good about this country and her citizens. I eagerly await the day I report to my ship and begin my career defending you and your rights. So please forgive this Sailor's faults - I forgive yours day in and day out and be grateful that there is at least one out there who wants you to never know what it means to have rights taken away and that you may never know what war is. Perhaps then, my loneliness might be abated somewhat.

I don't treat people like shit, so of course, I'm going to have crazed notions about what I think should happen. Is it too much to ask for one fucking chance to have one decent night out with a decent girl so I can forget about all the shit that's weighed down on me this year? I've already had the woman I loved walk out on me and my dream career in the Navy forever shut to me. So yes, I want what I don't have. It's a natural human feeling given my circumstances.
