I"m tempted to go the iPod route, but I feel like there would have to be someone to manage it throughout the night... or, I'm tempted to hire a DJ only for a few hours then once all the older people leave and it's mostly immediate family and our (most likely) drunk friends, we can pop on the iPod.

I'm trying not to stress myself out, but I feel like it's a little hard not to stress when:

a) I live roughly 9 hours away from where we're getting married
b) I'm still in school
c) I get hardly any breaks neat year when I can come up for wedding-stuff appointments to finalize crap (literally, we don't get a fall break or a spring break next year )
d) I feel bad asking for help

And now that I have been told multiple times our date is a "very demanded date," I'm kinda freaking out over the catering. Meeting up with ^'s husband soon though!

Oh, and now my boudoir pics are going to be in a month versus two months so I'm mildly stressing about dropping weight by then. >.<

^awwwww. it is hard not to!
i have my weekly freak outs now(ie-we should have sent the invites last weekend....and we havent even gotten the paper yet to print them!...so they are going to be AT LEAST 2 weeks late!)

but what it boils down to, even if things go a little wrong-people are going to have a blast!

breathe and just focus on what you need to to get done.

youre gonna have hurdles. jump over this one and just wait for the other

ps yes we were there Fhqwhgads!
cody got the sticker that said "brides little helper"

^ 4 the best man us in charge of monitoring the music for us. He has this program on his phone that can remotely access the music list on the computer so he can do it from wherever. Most he'll have to do is turn on the music for the first dance etc and then switch back to the playlist.

^ We'll be going the laptop/itunes route as well, and I'll probably use the itunes app on my phone to run things remotely if we ever need to pause or switch songs for any reason. I know the general rule is not to have the wedding party be responsible for wedding related things on the day of (especially the bride and groom) but I'm anal about music and my computer.

RE: cardinal club

so the coordinator had my bridesmaids punching out the placecards about 15 minutes before we're supposed to walk down the aisle

the food was wrong

there was a giant music note balloon on the ceiling from a previous party

they didnt set up the pictures like i asked

they had 2 other couples walking around to view the place while i was having my pictures done and getting ready - imagine my surprise when a little girl comes in the bathroom and shes NOT anyone i know , and puts her grubby hands on my dress

shall i go on?

"I have a question about DJs. Who should I be looking for? I'm kind of lost as to what is too expensive.... Or is it worth it to try an iPod reception? Or maybe pay for a few hours of DJ then switch to iPod for all the drunkies?"

Look for someone with experience in weddings, someone that even advertises themselves as a wedding DJ. You want them well spoken on a mic as they will be leading the ceremonies and someone that seems professional.

Too expensive is really anything over $100 an hour. honestly. you can find someone that is just as good as someone more expensive for that amount.

Ipod reception is ok until you realize you dont want a certain song played and have to go change it over and over again...its a lot of stress on you as the wedding person. not to mention you want a legit DJ when people get drunk and want to start really dancing and having a good time.

for all the people saying they had terrible DJs, I feel bad for them. Ive never had anyone tell me they had a bad time but I guess its just differing styles.

as for food...normally the DJ or band eats whatever you supply to them. I normally expect that as the case.

feel free to send me some info on the wedding and I may be able to help you find someone or even give you a quote and same for anyone that has wedding DJ questions.

thanks

for once Samwise16 will have a DJ who will play every song she request.

And you know how important music is to you Sam. Don't want to mess up a crucial part of the reception with a malfunctioning ipod or something.

Friends of mine did the iPod route. They had a small wedding/reception at a beach house on Bald Head Island. There were only 35 of us total and it was awesome. The bride and groom loaded up all their favorite songs including the songs they wanted to especially dance to. It worked out great. The house was wired with surround sound so we were able to hear everything really well.

I find this a curious argument against ipods. One would think if you decide to go this route you're going to spend time making an appropriate playlist and not just going to put the thing on shuffle. I know in our case we've spent hours putting the playlists together and listening to them in their entirety to make sure nothing sounds off. Granted I've been to a wedding where they just played 96Rock at the reception but I think the average person supplying their own music puts a bit more thought into it than that

this is kind of a shameless promotion of my boo, but tschudi aka tommy wiseau COULD be a good option for local-ish (prob NC area) peeps that don't want to go the ipod route but don't want to pay $texas for a DJ. he DJs at neptune's and has DJed one wedding (so he could get ya some references). he DJed a little benefit concert thingy at King's. he is DJing the CAM RALEIGH (Contemporary Art Museum) grand opening on April 30th WHICH btw is black tie and $150 a ticket. just sayin...it ain't jackpot or even neptune's and is pretty classy.

since he is just starting to do bigger events, it could be a good option because he wouldn't charge thousands (or even a thousand...probs more in the couple hundred dollar range) dollars. plus, IMO, he is way better than your average macarana DJ (though if you wanted that i'm sure he'd oblige). when he did the one wedding, they gave him a list of songs they absolutely wanted to hear and then guidance on some other things (like...dancey! or whatever they were hoping for...background for the dinner then progressing throughout the night into whatever genres they preferred). and then he used their list and his vast musical knowledge to do the rest. he has a PA system, too.

the wedding he did was at the NC Aquarium so it wasn't like, a ghetto wedding in someone's backyard or something (not that there is anything wrong with that! i'm just trying to say, it was a wedding at a popular location...in front of the shark tanks, lol). and yes, he works at schoolkids, but he isn't just a pretentious indie music only playing DJ.

so...just little promotion for him and maybe helpful to people who are on the fence about ipod v. DJ and looking for a cheaper DJ. and he has legit stuff...not just DJing from an itunes playlist or anything. he has the program (or programs, F if i know...) on his computer that is specifically for DJing and mixing, etc. i don't know all the terms!

ANYWAY that is all i'm going to say about that but i just figured i'd throw it out there.

We met with JT3bucky and will be using him. I had speech class in college with him (Com 110 with Mindy Sopher anyone???) and he was so well spoken and professional in class, I just knew he'd be a great choice for a DJ. He is super reasonable and we are so excited. We're getting married on 7-17-11 and we will post a review after that!

I made welcome bags for people staying in the beach house and are from out of state. I'm filling them with some travel magazines and coupons and stuff I got for free at the Topsail tourist center and stuff like Cheerwine, Lance's crackers, Moravian cookies, etc.

I think they came out pretty well!

Thanks They were super easy to make too. I printed the stencil on some cardstock I had laying around, cut it out with an x-acto knife, and painted them with fabric paint and a sponge brush.

Thanks for the DJ advice guys! I have quite a few appointments set up, including kadwackle's boo.

But I have a question about save the dates......... Is it really too early to send them out 10-11 months in advance? We do have lots of out of town people, but another main reason I want to get them out by late July is because fall semester will be nuts with rotations + school + sister's wedding + other wedding stuff + benefit concert... I really want to get them out early :\ I'm trying to get most of the wedding stuff done by December..

I sent ours out a year in advance since most people were from out-of-state. I had several people tell me they forgot the date by the time they got invites You'd think people would stick them on their fridge or make a reminder in Outlook or something
