"Wrapping up a news conference after Argentina's 4-1 win over South Korea on Thursday, the Argentina coach sat back down and pulled a letter out of his pocket.

He added, "I want to say sorry to Platini -- but not to Pelé.""

hahah. you soccer people are the easiest people to troll on the planet.

If half of you getting upset about this actually were this passionate about stuff that actually mattered in life, things might be looking up for the human race.

I don't really troll, but I saw an opportunity to mess with the crazy soccer fans and took it. I'm normally a level headed sport talk poster. It's fun sometimes to just say stupid things and see how people react.

Oh well back to actually talking about soccer. What 4 teams do you guys think have the best shot at winning it all? I've got to admit that I was quite shocked when Spain lost to the Swiss.

Dude got called out for being as dumb as a brick. Resorts to the "I was just trolling" response.

CLASSIC T-DUB.

Spain will advance, regardless of the loss. Argentina looks good, but I wouldn't pencil them in any further than the quarterfinals just yet. I was completely unimpressed by England, and although they will still advance, we will not know their chances until the Round of 16. The Dutch started out strong, but the Danes weren't all too troubling. I think Germany looked great and are a lock for the quarterfinals, and by my estimation, at least a semifinalist. Brazil started off slow, which is not unlike them; I still believe they are the team to beat, yet can be beaten. Portugal and the Ivory Coast were so cautious it will take another game to gauge their chances.

Whatever. I've earned a pass on being suspended for this one trolling attempt.

Yeah Spain should still get to the quarterfinals, but now I kind of question them being a legit favorite to win it all like so many were saying early on.

I wouldn't say Spain should make the quarterfinals since a R16 matchup with Brazil is very possible

Quote :
"JOHANNESBURG -- Police say a South African man who wanted to watch a World Cup match instead of a religious program was beaten to death by his family in the northeastern part of the country.

David Makoeya, a 61-year-old man from the small village of Makweya, Limpopo province, fought with his wife and two children for the remote control on Sunday because he wanted to watch Germany play Australia in the World Cup. The others, however, wanted to watch a gospel show.

"He said, 'No, I want to watch soccer,'" police spokesman Mothemane Malefo said Thursday. "That is when the argument came about.

"In that argument, they started assaulting him."

Malefo said Makoeya got up to change the channel by hand after being refused the remote control and was attacked by his 68-year-old wife Francina and two children, 36-year-old son Collin and 23-year-old daughter Lebogang.

Malefo said he was not sure what the family used to kill Makoeya.

"It appears they banged his head against the wall," Malefo said. "They phoned the police only after he was badly injured, but by the time the police arrived the man was already dead."

All three were arrested Sunday night, but Lebogang was released on $200 bail Tuesday, Malefo said. The other two are still being held in custody.

Malefo said the mother and son will reappear in the local Seshego Magistrates Court on July 27.

"He was always a happy man, never violent," Makoeya's nieces, Miriam and Anna, told the Daily Sun newspaper. "On Saturday, we saw him the last time at a funeral.""

I wouldnt have given a yellow on that second challenge, but it was close and I could see it justified I suppose. But just in general this ref has given like 7 cards already in the first half with maybe only 3 being on challenges I would have booked.

guess it's harsh as a 2nd yellow but Klose should know better to make tackles like that sitting on a yellow... especially for somebody throwing out cards

i've only seen two card-worthy challenges

amazed there was no card on the celebration, though

i'm not big on punishing celebrations, but i've seen cards for much less than jumping both barriers

@jtmoney about trolling

I have already warned a half dozen people for trolling in this thread and none have come back so it's being pretty effective in this case. I'm not going to suspend for the first time because trolling for the sake of being a prick has been so commonplace with people on here for so long that they almost think it's part of the place. I'm trying to cut down on allowing it, but don't want to suspend out of nowhere.

Also, I have no laptop right now and probably won't for a few days, so I won't be around but on my phone so if you have any problems (specifically with this thread) PM me because that is pretty much the only way I'll see it. I'm not going to stare through threads on my 1.5 inch Iphone screen.

I can't decide what to do for the US game - I DVR'ed it and get off at 12 so I only have to wait like 2 hours but I hate not watching games live. But I don't want to watch it in the office and risk losing a stream or being called out of the office and miss chunks of the game. Plus I can't really celebrate or get pissed like I normally do
