Destiny is definitely skilled, no doubt, but he is probably on the lower tier of the pros. He has been improving quite a bit recently. But his stream is definitely the most popular. But he just recently switched from Zerg to Toss, and he is no where near as good at toss as he was at Zerg. And his zerg wasn't near as good as Stephano, Idra, Ret, Sheth, etc.

http://www.teamliquid.net/video/streams/Stephano is the link for Stephanos stream when he is on. I think he just recently started streaming.

He didnt switch to toss

His ROOT account got banned from bnet for like a week for having all his fans spam Deezer so he started another account and chose toss.

And yes, he isn't a 'top' tier player. You can hear him grinding on the keyboard because he uses the DAS mechanical ones which are loud as fuck. 99% of pros sound like that when they are playing.

^He said on his stream one time he was switching.

This is why his keyboard is so loud:

and trust me its not a mic thing. I have the keyboard he does, my girlfriend can hear me on the first floor of our 3 story townhome when I play up on the 3rd floor

Doesn't mean anything about how good he is. As people have stated his setup is loud as shit, and APM doesn't = skill all the time.

He is very entertaining, and certainly a good player but you are making it sound like he is the second coming, he probably isn't even a top 100 nonkorean player. He has won no major tournaments, he has made no finals in any major tournaments, and he has gotten bounced in the first rounds of the last few invitational tournaments he has attended. He has had a few good open bracket runs at MLGs but nothing of significance.

they're called mechanical keyboards. you've probably come across those old ass IBM clicky keyboards in the past:

each key requires a lot less force in order for the key press to register so it definitely helps with people who have high APM.

i picked up a Razer Blackwidow after MLG Raleigh and brought it to work. needless to say everybody around my cube hated me for that week

He was playing Protoss before that. He started right after all the talk of 1.4 on the PTR removing neural parasite from massive units.

So while, yes, he was banned on his main Zerg account, that actually happened after he'd already started playing Protoss.

He was already grinding that toss account when the NP removal topic came up. I was viewing his stream when he found out about it. He said if it DOES go through he would permanently switch to toss.

Not that any of this matters

Jesus this game isn't even fun to play anything but terran. You'd think with a nerf patch that hurts helions and barracks it would take at least a week for more abusive builds.

Played like 3 games tonight vs. Terran and just saw the most abusive ghost/viking/raven/banshee all in plays.

Seriously, all the helion nerf did was encourage the next abusive terran strategy to come out. Enjoy playing against mass ghosts as zerg. That is a blast. They counter everything.

ahh I see

well they make even less sense then. It'd be like the company that produced the rubber that basketballs use hiring lebron james to advertise that they make rubber.

I could see MLG making something like this. Or maybe a gaming PC manufacturer like Dell or something.

But a memory company? A bit retarded.

It wouldn't be as bad if we knew the other people in the commercial. That is why the espn ones are good. You know the personalities of the casters and analysts so when you get to see a player out of their shell, you can connect with the player.

If it was day[9], husky, djwheat, or tastosis walking around an office setting interacting with other players it'd be hilarious.

I don't understand what is so complicated about it.

The employees shown are people that work for the memory company. They are using the progamers around their office just like ESPN uses pro sports players around their headquarters in their ads.

It is a different approach to advertising where it isn't as much about showing off the brand as it is about creating something funny that generates a lot of views on Youtube or whatever and then just ends with the brand being shown. Already tons of people on TeamLiquid have said things like, "This is hilarious I'm only buying their memory from now on."

So to me this seems like very cost effective, unique, and funny advertising. It got onto TWW right? If it was some boring ass commercial with some pro gamer going "HEY THIS IS GOOD MEMORY I USE IT." And then a graph pops up showing how their memory is 20% faster than the "leading industry brand" we wouldn't be talking about it.

And knowing who the other people are in the commercial is pretty irrelevant. Why would Day[9] be walking around the memory company? It is clear they are employees... I think it is pretty damn funny.

I don't think anyone said its complicated.

I only think its stupid and makes no sense.

Essentially Kingston::eSports != ESPN::Sports

I am actually going to buy the best reviewed and cost effective RAM. Not RAM from a company that makes retarded commercials that the mouthbreathers at TL think are awesome.

^ why would Evil Genius members be walking around a memory company? It makes as much sense as Day[9] in that it makes no sense.

I had something typed out.

But forget it.

It makes sense, it accomplished what the company was going for clearly, and doesn't matter beyond that. Not going to take our decent SC2 thread the direction every other thread goes on here.

Just let me know when you guys want to read that and I'll get working on it.

As I said, Mass Ghosts.... WTF? I'm switching to Terran I think. It just looks like more fun.

Mass ghosts are starting to turn into what mass infestors were.

Except they are much more difficult to target and can use all of their abilities while invisible.

Playing Terran still requires some skill though. I'd say T is the hardest race to macro the best (read: efficiently) with. If you don't have mechanics down, its so easy to float a ton of minerals.

Protoss OTOH: mass a bunch of units, A-move, GG.

I'm not saying it is easy. None of the races are "easy" especially when you are playing at diamond or masters level. Have to be able to multitask, scout well, and all that.

But the thing is Terran just has so many options. The macro is tough but just make sure late game you drop like 6 reactor barracks and pump out a shitton of 3/3 marines to finish the game.

I didn't explain it well enough.

If popular casters/analysts were in some sort of office environment (Regardless of what company it is) and progamers were doing situational humor stuff then it would be more akin to the espn commercials.

As far as the ad campaign goes, I agree with titans that the target audience was hit and sales will probably increase. Mission accomplished.

Zerg is actually one of the harder races to macro with. One of the biggest problems with late game zerg is being able to control your units (remember you can't just sit a zerg army stationary and let it mass up), spread creep constantly and inject non stop. If you start missing your injects you will immediately start floating a ton of resources. Terran you just build more factories/barracks.

I watched Stephano some more. Good god, this guy will be sick if he goes to Korea to practice. He apparently was on a 64-2 run on the ladder, 1 game was a d/c and the other game was him going hatch first and getting 9 pooled. It's absolutely ridiculous how easy he makes the ladder look. He just goofs off half the time but can't lose. And this is against the top of the european ladder (hes #1 still), going pure queen/zergling with like 25 hatches spread around the map against a toss, and somehow winning even when the toss had a zealot/colossi deathball (he ended up forcing a base trade). Just his general timings, game knowledge along with very impressive macro/micro. Can't wait to see him get on a good team and get in some tourneys, hes apparently gonna be in IPL3.

He has recently got a lot of hype too because he went through an IPL open winning it beating several good foreigners and a Korean or two including MMA. That's what got him into IPL 3.

I totally do, his play is so fun to watch. And his stream times seem very random, anything from the morning to lunch to night time eastern.

I just turned him on randomly during lunch one day after hearing his name from all the millenium/CoL crap... I wasn't expecting anything great, but I'm glad he has suddenly blown up and is getting a ton of hype. I don't think he is on Nestea's level (who is) but I think he could hold his own against any foreigner... also keep in mind he has not been a pro gamer for long. Dude is good.

Zags and I got pretty close to top 100 in the world in 2's last night.

Then we lost a few games, fell back and I got pissed and went to bed.

I think we are now somewhere around 200 or so in the world. Not that it means much, but I wanted to be on the first page of SC2ranks.

So I played in my first SC2 tournament on Playhem, it was pretty fun.

First game I didn't play very well, playing against some masters toss, had terribad macro, but the ending is pretty funny.

Second game I got to play a pro - Namhcir. Hes currently 25th on the NA server in GM. He went proxy 2 rax, I went proxy hatch in his base. Lols ensued.

Agreed.

As far as the picture in concerned, I'm pretty sure if you BC rush against Zerg, you'll probably win most of your games. A BC with a couple of marines and SCVs set to repair would just be impossible to deal with early for Zerg.

Had a similar experience the other day. Was in a custom ZvT. Had taken over basically the entire map and had him trapped on two base. Wife called me into the other room. Came back about 45 minutes later and the dude was still in game and had apparently just been throwing units away vs my broodlords that were sitting idle.

however, i spent like a hour today refining some mechanics on my 2v2/3v3 build. still needs work, but i have t-track coming up leading to more free time.
