Where does palpatine originally come from? How did he get to be the senator, or whatever he is.

also, in that trailer..he looks all normal, then towards the end he turns all evil/old/scary looking....

how does that transformation occur?

Uh, I'm not a guru but I know my fair shit about it...

the darkside turns him gray like that. his senator status is by disguise, so more important, it's what turns him normal moreso, because that's his real disguise; after he's clearly darkside since epidose I. Not that there's a good analogy, but anakin as old is somewhat tainted on skin color and such too at the end of jedi...

the scream is a dark jedi power...

he was a republic sentator, and then he was voted chancelor. As for where he came from before he was a senator, i dunno. Maybe he was a jedi who happened upon some sith remnents. Maybe he came from the sith.

the transformation is probably some dark side power or the effects of one. Most likely its to make him look more like the guy we all know and love from the original trilogy.

the yell was part of the music.

after you beat republic commando, it unlocks these "extras" which are making of movies.

One of them is talking about the environments in the game and they say "kashyyyk, from the upcoming revenge of the sith"

if you remember from the first movie, someone was talking about how their are always two sith, an apprentice and a master. palpatine was somebody's sith apprentice once and now he's the sith master. as far as having a lightsaber, i think it just takes someone who can use the force to create one (or maybe it just takes someone who can use the force to use one without cutting their own arms and legs off with it), so you don't have to be a jedi to have a lightsaber.

im pretty sure there have been more than 2 sith at once in the past.

As far as where he came from, the most common storyline goes jedi finds sith ruins, jedi studies sith ruins, jedi learns darkside powers, jedi goes bad.

The sith were "wiped out" a few thousand years before the ep1,2,3 timeline, so the chance that he's actual original sith is pretty slim.

Basically, Sith missing for a long time. Ulic Qel-Droma frees planet from pent up Dark Side energy cause by fallen Jedi Freedon Nadd. Eventually Nadd's spirit comes back (something to do with Exar Kun and Qel-Droma having Sith Amulets) and grants Kun the title of DLotS and Qel-Droma the apprentice. Pause a few years, begin Sith War.

Then Qel-Droma betrays Kun, Kun's spirit gets locked in the Massassi Temples on Yavin 4 until Kyp Durron unlocks the shit years later and goes blowing up solar systems (which happens like 9+ years after ANH and is what you're thinking of).

And I wish I was joking.

In Star Wars the Sith are just what the movies portray them to be seemingly. Dormant for an exceptionally long time, until they make a run for the gold.

Of course, all that back story is probably now invalid, but that's the way the books set it up.

Anyone can build a lightsaber, so long as you could properly focus the crystal in the middle of everything.

I really hope Palpatine exposes a lot of backstory concerning the Sith. It would be great if his revelations caused fault to fall heavily on the Jedi's side.

Being a jedi isn't a pre-requisite to using lightsabers. General Greivous (new ep3 bad guy, part alien/droid capable of wielding 4 sabers) would be an example of this.

I'm surprised he (and Dooku) hasn't shown up (except for a really quick shot or two) in the teaser trailer or in this one.

ASP droids have used lightsabers in most Star Wars related material for Vader to spar against.

You know, because he was pretty much the old person to use a lightsaber for 50 or so years.

Though there are some Force activated lightsabers, as a whole, they're pretty rare throughout the Star Wars universe. Non-Force users using lightsabers is more common, though.

why would count dooku (sp?) raise a droid army to combat the republic's clone army if that clone army will end up being the Empire/Darth Sidious'? I guess it goes along the lines that Dooku told Obi Wan he needed Qui Gon's help.

Does Dooku see himself as a lesser evil than Sidious and is trying to counteract his plans, or his he sincerely working for him?

That's the whole paradox of the Sith. There can only be two because the Sith is based on power over others. With two, there can be a master and an apprentice, no more (no less). Dooku left the order around the time of Episode I, and it's likely that Sidious took him on as an apprentice after the death of Darth Maul, so as to have an apprentice that he didn't have to spend a lifetime to train. However, Dooku, being the powerful and revered Jedi he was probably didn't want to be subsurvient to Sidious. When Dooku meets Obi-Wan, he feels that Obi-Wan would be a likely candidate for an Apprentice, figuring that Obi-Wan would trust him, being Qui-Gon Jinn's former master. The reason for Dooku asking Obi-Wan to join him was to use Obi-Wan to overthrow Sidious with him so that Dooku could become the Master of the Sith.

On the macro and overt level, Dooku leads the Separatist movement, giving Palpatine/Sidious the reason to create the Clone Army he needs and allows himself to be given broad, sweeping Emergency Powers. Sidious in particular is using the whole galaxy to serve his master plan.

In short, Dooku is working for Palpatine/Sidious, but only does so in his own interests.
