Some bands I've been listening to lately that I don't think has been listed:
Winds In the Woods Morgion Green Carnation November's Doom Novembre The Old Dead Tree Swallow the Sun Cult of Luna
Mostly melodic, progressive music but these bands vary in vocals from clean (no falsetto shit), to death and clean, to black and clean, to death/black. 6/16/2005 8:55:43 PM |

It honestly depends on the mode.
Infinity might be my least favorite of the three. That CD is SUPER layered, and it takes many, many listens to get through them all. Its pure insanity, and in my opinion a work of art. But its definetly like coffee to a lot of people. Tons of ambient work on the album.
Terria is, simply, a beautiful album. Its pretty soft (for Dev), though. I mean how many songs include an orca whale chorus? That CD is awesome as a catalyst to escape reality. I just bought it again (my old cd cracked a year or two ago). A very surreal CD with some excellent guitar work.
Ocean Machine is definetly my favorite. Out of all the albums I'd say its the 2nd heaviest (behind Physicist). I really don't know how to explain why I like it so much. Its just perfect. The production, lyrics, music.. unreal.

I might as well do this.... favorite songs and albums:
Straping Young Lad Heavy as a Really Heavy thing - Critic and SYL (tied) City - this album is considered a classic metal album so its extremly hard for me to pick one track ... I'd say All Hail the New Flesh No Sleep till Bedtime - Far Beyond Metal SYL - Aftermath Alien - Love?
Devin Townsend Ocean Machine - Night Infinity - Christeen Physicist - Jupiter Terria - the Fluke Accelerated Revolution - Track 10 (forget the name)..

awesome...we were talkin about his stuff earlier in this thread but i still havent gotten around to getting any it. i really want to, i just havent had the money and the memory at the same time. he really sounds like what i've been looking for, though i haven't heard any of it (his solo stuff i mean, of course i know SYL). i'll probably pick up ocean machine before the iniquity album then
^^ are those albums listed in your order of preference?
still any thoughts on iniquity's "grime?" (anyone)

about the only metal bands i still have in rotation are judas preist and motorhead (well, the cult if you count them). the rest lately has been either japanese rock or jazz.

^^my favorites out of that list are Malice Mizer and Gackt (who used to be the lead singer of Malice Mizer, incidentally).
Tiamat is amazing; their last few albums have been a lot more atmospheric and experimental, but all of their material is of uniformly high quality. My favorites are A Deeper Kind Of Slumber, and Skeleton Skeletron. 6/22/2005 6:58:08 PM |

picked up Hypocrisy's "The Arrival" a few days ago...
very pleased, this album kicks ass. the only complaint i have is that tagtgren doesn't use more of his vocal range, particularly his low-end...listening to him on Bloodbath's "Nightmares Made Flesh" gives me a raging boner, but you don't hear so much of his range on this album. That said, this album is fucking great, it's got some beautiful melodies and some badass thrash parts...not very technical or impressive from a skill standpoint, but just good fucking metal. one of those ones that you listen to all the way through and then back your cd player back up to the first track and do it all over again. i recommend it, and if you're a fan of hypocrisy it's a must...it's a return to their old sound, not the nu-metalish direction their last one went. peter's back \m/ 7/29/2005 12:08:41 AM |
