page 5

That came definitely looks way nicer than I'd expect given the specs that are rumored for the Revolution.

I've never found the GC graphics lacking. And from what I've seen of the Revolution, I dont think this will be disappointing.

My point is that i dont believe the graphics will be bad enough to drive the sales of this console down. Of course if they released it with ps1 graphics sales would go down. But everyone knows they'll be better than that.

well..yea, we know what the graphics will be like

not only do we get the gamecube grapgics, but you get the added effect --

you know how as more games get released for the same console they always look better and better, something to do with the developers getting better aquanted with the architechture. with the revolution, its all veery similar, so developers wont have to relearn how to exploit the hardware for optimum effect.

Besides the graphics are good enough already and i think nintendo kills on gameplay which is what really matters the new controller, price, and backwards compatible are all bonuses

Is this legit? March 31st, 2007 launch? That's WAY longer than I was hoping...

"We can't hardly wait. The PS3 is coming. The Wii is coming. And maybe there'll be some cool XBox games with HD-DVD support. Best of all? Buying a Wii will leave us plenty of Bar Mitvah money in order to invest in a partial ownership/timesharing plan on the super 'spensive PS3!

The Wii will ship March 31, 2007 and sell for 25,000 yen in Japan and $250 in the States. They will ship six million systems and 17 million games during this period. The resulting Cabbage-Patch-Kid-Tickle-Me-Elmo-Holiday-Mob-Rule will slaughter hundreds of innocent Best Buy employees as parents purchase sniper rifles and pick off lucky Wii purchasers in line. All will be right with the world."

what i read said nintendo plans to have shipped 6 million units be the end of march, so maybe they got it confused.

FYI, GameStop release dates mean jack-shit. Heck, they have Vanguard shipping on July 11th yet the developers themselves are saying January to February of 2007 is the target.

Evil Avatar had a good post on this story... they make the point that while the Wii will probably launch in early November its likely going to have the same availability issues the 360 faced (plus most parents have presents bought before the Wii will be a market presence), so in essence, Microsoft will have the only hardware available for two straight Christmas seasons (a significant leg-up on the competition). If you consider that Wii is not really 360 competition (different generation/target) its going to be really hard for Sony to catch up to the 2 year headstart and price difference that Microsoft has.

Gladius is an interesting GC game… pretty cheap now. I might not get a revolution right away… but I’m hoping its coming out will knock down the prices of some GC games.

No Dolby Digital 5.1 for the Wii

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/25/no-dolby-digital-for-wii/

Quote :
"Staying consistent with Wii's inferior processing and graphical specs, official Wii documentation given to development studios confirms the absence of Dolby Digital 5.1 optical outputs. It is likely that Nintendo will continue to use Dolby Pro Logic II for simulated 5.1 audio as it has with the GameCube. IGN writes: "There is a single proprietary audio/video jack on Wii and users have the option to plug in different cables depending on their preference. According to developer documentation, Wii owners will be able to insert a composite, S-video or component audio/video cable into the jack, but all three come standard with stereo left and right channel audio cables."

Though a Dolby Digital solution could still surface being that final Wii tech specs have yet to be announced, don't expect it. Not that Nintendo's target audience will."

This is the first real confirmation of it. Yes, people were expecting Dolby Digital 5.1 surround. In fact, here is an Ars Technica article talking about the rumor that its was going to have 7.1 support.

No, Gamestop is not taking preorders yet.

And it doesn't look like they will have a tight supply, either.

Quote :
"As part of its earnings report, Microsoft said it sold 1.7 million Xbox 360s during its third fiscal quarter. Adding to numbers previously reported, would bring the total to 3.2 million."

As of a month ago. If Nintendo is going to ship 6mil within five or six months, there won't be price gouging on eBay or any of that garbage.

Considering Nintendo cut graphics and said its all about the experience and interactivity of the game, even going so far as to add a speaker in the damn remote, I would say that quality surround sound is not something that should be so easily dismissed. But of course I'm not a Nintendo fanboi either so maybe I'm missing something.

5.1 is something that could add to the interactivity of a lot of games.

It'll be a shame if it really doesn't have it.

I'd wager a lot more than 4-5% of their demographic has them, especially considering how popular (and cheap) a 5.1 system is now.

Fuck, I've got like 4 different ones in my place right now.

I assume it will still support Dolby Pro Logic II like the gamecube which, while not true digital surround sound, is just as good for surround sound for the purposes of gaming.

I agree with everyone that says that true 5.1 isn't a big loss.

bingo. their graphics aren't that great, why should their sound?

furthermore, that they have an additional speaker in the controller would seem to me to be reason why they DON'T need to add 5.1, not a reason why they WOULD need it!

It's not that their graphics "aren't that great", it's that Nintendo takes a different approach to graphics.

They remember what video games should feel like. The trite garbage you see pumped out en masse on PS and Xbox is just horrible, with but a few exceptions.

ive said it once, ill say it again. lets not pretend GC didnt have a TON of shitty games. they just didnt have the third party support the other 2 boxes (which leads to plenty of extra shitty games).
