p.s. K: Will, I’m gonna miss this.

W: I know, right? All the good times. (Points to the lot in the background) This. This was ours. This could’ve all been ours, Kristin.

K: The world!

W: (Whispering) This is my Los Angeles. (Turns to the camera, gives the thumbs up)

just watched the finale, and that was 2 hours of some of the funniest TV i've ever seen.
And excellent show, and a shame it's probably going to be lost.

"Fear not, Arrested Development fans. The quirky sitcom about a hilariously dysfunctional family may have been unceremoniously dumped by the Fox network, but it looks like Showtime is coming to its rescue.

The New York Post's Page Six reported Tuesday the cable network has not only picked up the cancelled show, it has ordered 26 more episodes. The news supports recent Internet rumblings about producers hammering out a deal with Showtime execs.

The two-hour finale of the critically-acclaimed series nabbed only 3.3 million viewers when it aired on Feb. 10 on Fox."

It was a decent show for broadcast, but there's no way I'd pay to see it.

If it was on showtime, does that mean they would do it for a full hour, or at least 30 minutes without commercials?

wonder if they would turn up the inappropriateness too.

and if that would be a good or a bad thing.

hmmm, yeah, part of the appeal was that they were really pushing the limits of broadcast TV, mostly by subtly diverting around being blatantly or obviously vulgar (that is, according to the FCCs rules by not using actual curse words). They made lots of subtle jokes that had double meanings, which I guess is why they could get away with it ("Who'd want to visit that musty old clap-trap" "...... ah, the cabin... right")
It was also extremely funny when they bleeped out words like Pussy in some circumstances, but not in others. Which, if they were on Showtime, they wouldn't have to bleep it at all.....

yeah, i totally agree. But I think the bleeping kinda added to the charm. It's not like you can't tell what they're saying.

I some other instances, like when Buster flips out talking bout his mom, the bleeping was the joke. I don't think it would be as funny if you could actually hear what he was saying.

Let's hope they handle it ocrrectly. I'm sure they will.

Showtime has put two 12 episode seasons with a third season option on the table. Mitchell Hurwitz has another day or two to accept the offer or not. Here's hoping he takes it.

my favorite thing about the bleeping

is that in addition to not audibly hearing it, you cannot visibly show the curse word either

so you see the lengths they go to hide the characters mouth

and that really does add to the humor

they could still keep to this idea. since this is loosely supposed to be a fake reality show/documentary, right?

At first it was, and then it moved away from that a great extent due to the plot.

when was it supposed to be a pseudo-reality show?

At the very beginning, it was a pseudo-documentary in principle, hence the names on the screen, etc.

""Arrested Development," the critically praised but low-rated Fox show that won an Emmy for outstanding comedy series, as well as Emmys for writing, will not be resurrected on Showtime as rumors circulating for months have suggested.

A source close to the negotiations said that creator Mitch Hurwitz had decided after a lengthy period of debating an offer from Showtime that "Arrested Development reached its end, creatively, as a series." "

i thought they made it obvious it wasn't going to go into a new season, the way they ended it

if it did, it would be an obvious money thing, and the show would be bad

seemed like they left it just open-ended enough to pick it back up if they decided to.

oh well, RIP Arrested Development. This might've been for the better.

^^^^ Every season opened with Michael and George Michael in the process of leaving their family, so there's no reason a new season couldn't open with them halfway to the beach house on the yacht.

All right.

I've been watching the DVDs. At the end of the pilot episode and at the end of the "Meet the Veals" episode, what's the song that's played?

The snippet they play is just "Whatcha tryin' to say to me?"

I've googled and googled to no avail!

P.S. "He just wants to see boys' linuses."

Yeah, that's what I kinda figured. But I thought I'd check to be sure.

It sounded a little like Our Lady Peace, so that's why I thought it might be a real song. But I couldn't find anything.

Oh well.

Season three comes out soon, and that rules.

C'MON!

possible good news
Quote :
"Fox's Arrested Development, which attracted critical raves and an avid cult following -- but low ratings -- will get a second life on the Internet. In an unusual deal, Fox has signed an exclusive deal with Microsoft's MSN web portal that will make all 53 episodes of the series available for free. MSN says it will create a "community" around the videos, which will be streamed and include commercials that cannot be skipped. (The deal does not include rights to sell downloads of the episodes.) The Fox "exclusive" appears to conflict somewhat with a separate AD deal with Comcast's G4 cable network, which encourages viewers to download its programming (games in particular) to portable video devices. In yet a third deal, Fox granted HD-Net high-definition rights to the quirky series."
