Let's hire Pete Carrill. I'd love it, but seeing the real deal Princeton O on the court coached by a old white guy that looks like he should be teaching your physics class (and dead) would cause our stupid fans to implode.

That would be so awesome.

Hahah see this is my main gripe with the Herb haters....

They cannot name a SINGLE coach that would be interested in coming here and would actually be an improvement over Herb.

But I thought that was a great selling point for a program with as great of a tradition as Dook's and Carowhina's

more importantly...

who would come play here?? if u get an offer from NCSTATE, you will probably be in consideration from other top ACC schools

why would u want to play for an offense that wont allow you to be a playmaker?

I ask this question to people all the time too .. few have any ideas.

On a radio call in, someone gave the best answer I have heard so far.

Mike Montgomery. Think Pitino/Calipari model. College success, get the money in the pros, hate it, suck at it, go back to college.

Success at Stanford with Pac 10 titles and top 5 rankings (and tough academics). But even in 18 years at Stanford, just one final four.

http://www.nba.com/coachfile/mike_montgomery/index.html?nav=page

I'm telling you, its gonna be hard to find someone to get beyond what Herb has done. You could take another up and comer and 5 years later, be no better or even worse. Tough to call ....

we could always keep herb and somehow get roy and k fired...then we could definitely contend for acc reg season and acc tourney titles as well as recruiting

thing is, herb is only 43. this isn't the way i want to be able to compete with duke, but k will be retired soon.

we are improving though. the overall athleticism from this year's team to next year's team is skyrocketing though (evtimov leaving and probably brackman as well). fells, grant, costner, ferguson, simmons... these guys are all athletic. i definitely see us being able to do more with our offense.

I'm no Herb Hater, but once again, I'll throw in my suggestion. What about Murray State's coach Mick Cronin

He was an assistant for Bob Huggins at Cincinnati and Rick Pitino at Louisville.

But the "name one person crowd" keeps on ignoring me.

theres about 5 teams Roy lost to year to year when coaching at Kansas

Iowa St.
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St.
Missouri

now, Missouri recently abandoned their coach, but it seems the Iowa St. and Oklahoma losses were the most recent and happened almost every year. Colorado a few times, but never NC State...soooo looks like we need to look into that department of coaching,

last time i checked, herb has made the tourney more times in a row than him and his team made it to the second round with a 10 seed

how would that be a step up?

OU gets nothing but great recruits every year and ends up squandering it

we've got narrow-minded herb haters here.

their only concern is to beat UNC, not the NCAA.

Mike Anderson from UAB

He might actually have a recruiting edge over Roy and K with some ghetto kids because he's black.

Plus he's done more with less than Herb over the past couple of years, and his teams play very uptempo.

people just need to face it

we aren't going to get anyone better than herb right now- playing 3rd fiddle in the ACC isn't exactly a dream job, and the fact that we have such hostile and ungrateful fans makes it even more unappealing

why would we want a mid-major coach to take over?

we aren't the dynasty people wish we were and the next NCAA championship won't come anytime soon- but i can bet it would happen sooner with herb than anyone we could nab right now

bullshit

We'll never win a championship with that shitty offense we run.

NC State doesn't have to play 3rd fiddle to Duke and UNC, we could return to prominence. All it would take is a good coach. I think Mike Anderson or Mick Cronin might be that coach.

Have some faith.

yeah all we need is some mid-major coach to come in and lead us to the final four since all the other parts are in place

right

Sean Sutton is taking over for dad Eddie who is probably done.

Iowa State just fired their coach and hired Greg McDermitt.

^Hewitt took Georgia Tech to the finals 2 years ago. Where was he before that job? Sienna. He's already accomplished more in 5 years than Herb has done in 10, despite their setback this year.

Yes, a good coach from a mid-major program can lead a program to the final four in a short time.

Haha wow. Ive already pwned one guy about Hewitt.

""2005-2006 Georgia Tech 11-17 4-12
2004-05 Georgia Tech 20-12 8-8
2003-04 Georgia Tech 28-10 9-7
2002-03 Georgia Tech 16-15 7-9
2001-02 Georgia Tech 15-16 7-9
2000-01 Georgia Tech 17-13 8-8"
"

And to quote myself:

Quote :
"
1 Winning ACC season and 2 NCAA tournament appearances in 6 years as coach. Not to mention Bobby Cremins won the ACC 3 times and left the program in much better shape than Les Robinson left us. Marvin Lewis, Shaun Fein, and some of those guys were solid players.

While you are at it. What is Hewitt's record against Herb?"

No way we have a losing season next year, mayyybe in ACC play, but I doubt that even.
Yes we will miss Cam and Toney, but its not like we are losing two Hodges (and ya see how much of an effect that had anyways this year).

Thats the positive side of having a wellbalanced team and not relying on just two or three guys.

The big thing about next year is going to be ballhandling.

You saw what happened to Wake. I don't think Atsur can handle pressure... let's hope Ferguson lives up to his billing
