what the hell does that mean?

Cal sucks dude. They have one sick player.

Coincidentally their sick player matches up against our best defensive player.

Wow, how on earth did we beat them?

Maybe because they only scored 52 points?

dude.

If we played Wake Forest yesteday we would not have been favored.

We were favored against Cal.

In other words, Cal might be the worst team in the ACC.

yall need to stop bringing up Wake Forest...it doesnt matter what they were ranked or the fact that they were last place in the ACC....we just do not match up well at all with Wake and we havent for a while going back to when Josh Howard played

You're right.

We dont match up well with Wake, UNC, Duke, Seton Hall, Georgia Tech, etc

Maybe thats why we want Herb fired?

Because when it comes down to it, id rather have a team that is vulnerable to lose to George Mason but actually has the potential to beat UNC.

You realize a lot of this "consistency" that NC State has under Herb comes at the expense of "beating good teams".

Herb is scared to succeed. He's like buying a savings bond. No fucking nutsac.

He preys on teams to have a bad game like Uconn last year.

Our wins/losses depend more on how the other team performs than on how we play.

A real man does not say "we're gonna play completely average basketball and see if you guys are good enough to beat us"

They go out there and give it their best.

Basketball is not wrestling. You dont just sit back and wait for the other guy to make mistakes. You have to be aggressive.

If Herb was a poker player he'd be weak tight. He'd do well agianst the bad players but get steamrolled by the Phil Ivey's of the world.

He couldnt even ask his fucking wife out on a date.

Herb is like the guy at the gym who never guards his man because he's scared he'll get crossed up.

So instead of locking up a man and potentially getting beat, he just lets the other guy take open 17 footers.

If the guy can hit the 17 footer, herb loses.

If the guy cant hit the 17 footer, herb wins.

Its passive bullshit.

You are never going to be the best player in the gym by letting the other guy take the open 17 footer. He might miss sometimes, but he's not gonna miss 6 in a row.

And if you dont have the potential to win six straight, you arent a real program.

App State, Asheville, Miami, Alabama, New Hampshire, George Washington.

Now if we could just convince the committee to let 4 of those teams in the tournament and hope that Alabama makes the elite 8 and GW makes the championship game!!!!!!!

If Texas plays bad we can win.

If Texas plays well we cant win.

How am i wrong about that?

And its not just Texas, this is how it works whenever we play anyone in the top 25.

We arent Princeton, there is no need to let other teams dictate whether we will win or lose.

There is NO shame in giving it your best shot and losing.

There is a plenty of shame in letting the guy beat you on an open 17 footer.

And even if he misses the open 17 footer, you are still a pussy.

Telling a story about Herb's life that accurately reflects his coaching style and his team's demeanor the last decade is speculating?

Where is the speculation? I must be missing it

This thread does not compare basketball to poker.

It compares personality traits to poker, which is valid.

Herb is a passive person. In poker we call that weak-tight.

You know, like the 70 year old grandmother who is scared to raise with Ace-King preflop and likes to check and call with top pair.

She might turn a profit against weak players (drunks, LAG's, and idiots) but shes leaving value on the table nearly every hand she plays.

And when she goes up against a tight-aggressive player she is going to get ass raped.

Ever consider you are both right to a point? I would have to agree with rally, just look at the percentages of times we call a timeout with a chance to win/tie at the final possession and BLOW IT (thanks god for Cam being clutch @ clemson/ vs cal). BUT, the only problem is that we dont have a better coach lined up if herb leaves; not to mention endangering chris wright and any other players that may follow him here thanks to the bald guy's recruiting. (And I wouldnt be able to wear my 'I love herb' shirt to games anymore) Bottomline: Until another bigname coach who can recruit is available and considering the job here, Herb stays and we continue to wince through games.

We didn't call a timeout vs. Clemson

And if you keep a coach around for a recruiting class, you're an idiot. Unless Lebron James is coming in, that is no reason to even consider keeping a coach.

methinks that the only cure for this bitching is a trip to the Final Four.

Even if we go Elite Eight, people will still complain about losing to Duke in that game.

There's no end to this...

We seem to keep Amato around for recruiting reasons too (despite this years tragedy). Maybe thats our whole problem? Too much focus on competing for recruits in the ACC and not enough on getting coaches who can control their players.

Agreed. He is far from the worst, but the fact that all these "supposedly great" players we had didnt achieve much after phil left and that our D jumped ship like rats from a fire this offseason speaks wonders for the presence of internal staff/players malcontent. Anyways: back to Herb

I really think that stupidity is directly proportional to athletic talent.

FSU, VT, and Miami always have players doing stupid shit. UNC has some crooked players,as does Maryland, and I think we're right behind them...but nowhere close to those 3. However, thier talent dwarfs ours.

Duke and WF... man, they're angels, but they suck (Even though they both usually beat us).

Agreed. Look at vince young and his combine score vs. his sick running (and ninjaah) skills... there can be a (stereotypical) relation seen between the two attributes. Does this mean that our current bball players who are smarter than the likes of melvin, collins, sherrill, and watkins are less athletic though?

Well... I think with 85 scholarship players in football, compared to 11, I think, for basketball... you're bound to hear about more football players being idiots.

Herb does run a clean program, I'll give him that.

However, then you have the Chris Washburns and such who are incredibly gifted but incredibly stupid.

And as far as Melvin, Collins, and Watkins.... I wouldn't say they were that athletic. (Obviously I mean comparative to players like McCants, Redick, etc.)

Scooter, yes.
