no, in all honesty, i think he really wants this job, and has been holding out on signing the miami extension as long as he possibly can in hopes of getting a call from us.

it's unfortunate that it will probably never come...

So this is the excuse we'll use when we suck for the next two years??

I think we had that same excuse prepared right after Josh Powell left, and Herb managed to do just fine.

And no way Cedric was going to stay for 2 more years.

Josh Powel at the end of sophmore year > Ced at the end of sophmore year

[Edited on April 27, 2006 at 5:58 PM. Reason : and we still had a great season the next year. Granted we would have been FF material with him]

i'm not sure the ACC can really prevent it, they can just strongly dissuade fowler from attempting this. if fowler wanted haith bad enough, and didn't care about pissing off the ACC, i think he could hire Haith.

i'm just pretty sure that all of the above won't happen

^Because neither he nor our chancellor has a backbone and they don't want to upset Swafford.

And maybe because he didn't make the NCAA tourney (that he was picked to make this year) with three of the best guards in the ACC and he only has a couple years of head coaching experience.

We can do better (but barely).

"three of the best guards in the ACC"

Are you serious? They had 1 2nd team All-ACC guard & 1 3rd team All-ACC guard & uh... How on earth can you say they had 3 of the best guards in the ACC? The 5th & 8th best guards in the league hardly give them unstoppable. And after those 2 there wasn't much.

And most people didn't pick Miami as a tourney team. Most people had Duke, BC, Us/Wake/Maryland as the top 5 & the only tourney teams. Most had Miami as the 6th or 7th best team with UNC, which they were.

And I'm still waiting for you to tell me a better REALISTIC option.

Any mid-major coach that has proven he can make it to the tourney and win a game or two.

I'd take Lowery or Sean Miller over Haith. Miller made it to the tourney this year and he's been coaching just as long as Herb. He also knows State. Fuck, I might even want Whittenburg over Haith. He's shown that he can turn really shitty programs around.

Haith hasn't really done shit at Miami. He's taken a below average team and made them average. They're not going to be any good next year.

And yeah...he had three great guards. Each one of those guards were better than any guard we had on our team. And don't give me All-ACC bullshit. There are centers and forwards on the All-ACC team too. I'm going to take a stab and say that had at least 3 of the top 10 guards in the ACC on their team. With serviceable big men...that should get you in the tourney. Herb fucking swept 'em.

I'd rather have Whitt at this point also. Whitt will at least unite the fan base...I wouldnt have said that a few weeks ago, but we're down to our last options right now.

If we have to hire an unproven coach, we may as well hire one of our own. Its time to hire Whitt.
