ok, so we have Hedican, Commodore, Hutchinson, Babchuk, Tverdovsky, Wallin and Kaberle on the team next season. That's 7 defensemen right there, so we'll probably only need 1 more, either Sean Hill or Danny Markov would be good, but I doubt we can afford either. 7/3/2006 7:28:13 PM |

I love Danny Markov, but I don't think he'd be the best option for us because of his tendency to get hurt a lot. He spent a decent chunk of Nashville's season bein' hurt, which greatly diminished his effectiveness for them. 7/3/2006 9:57:54 PM |

Roenick returns to Phoenix
There are two things in this that may be of interest to Canes fans:
Quote : | "Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette has said that the Pens are actively pursuing center Yanic Perreault for his faceoff and defensive abilities as a third-line center.
Also, the Penguins were interested in the services of Danny Markov and Jaroslav Spacek, but settled for D-man Mark Eaton as "the price was right".
A return to Pittsburgh for Mark Recchi seems to be "a long shot".
GM Ray Shero may be finished with free agency, but he has "left open the possibililty of making significant trades when other teams are forced to shed payroll or find themselves overloaded at a particular position." Shero believes that even if he doesn't sign free agents, other clubs doing so (such as the NJ Devils) will create trade possibilities.
Lastly, if the price is right, the Penguins would like to acquire Samsonov to play with Crosby or Malkin." |

so basically pittsburgh settled for Eaton at 1.6 million as a cheaper alternative to Spacek and Markov, which means we won't be resigning Markov for under 2 million dollars, which probably means we aren't resigning Danny Markov. 7/4/2006 5:56:14 PM |

It's not like there are B bonuses or anything to negotiate, or JR is spending some time finding two forwards and a defenseman.

Definately a good thing to get Cole back, as he is one of the premier players in the league. I would like to see the Canes go out and get a solid defenseman now. Markov would be ideal, but there might be someone else out there that can do the same job for a cheaper price. 7/5/2006 2:09:22 PM |

I wouldn't predict a guy's career based on 2 games played after coming back from a broken neck. Also, it was the finals and I thought he looked damn good and created a lot of scoring chances considering his situation. 7/5/2006 2:15:23 PM |

HAHAHHHAHAHHAAHAH
everyone else was making plays and feeding him the puck in the 1st period. just becuase it looks like he had a few chances doesnt mean he played well. thinking cole played well in g6 is probably what someone who only tuned into the final round of the playoffs would say.
