IBD advice

dont fall in love with a stock

cut your losses at -8% always. no exceptions.

^ that's one theory...the counter to that is that if you were willing to buy the stock at X, then it would be an even better deal at .92X (as long as the fundamentals haven't changed)

Recently I had Best Buy (BBY) drop ~11% but it has recovered ~4-5%....

sound reasoning behind that is that if stock goes down -10% it will take another 10% jump just to break even or rally 20% to make a +10% profit, and that isnt much after capital gain tax.

^and sound reasoning also says that when you trade when you have a negative gain, those losses become real

the 10% rule is sound in general, but on should make exceptions for high volatility stocks, such as TIE, TRID, etc. which can swing 10-15% in either direction several times a year.

heh, i got stopped out of ILMN back in november... took an 8% loss. It then dropped a bit more before getting back up to where i would have been in the black.

saw that movie on FoxMovie Channel last night...

forgot how good that shit was. the Charlie Sheen + Martin Sheen combo is brilliant.

the story it resonates now particularly because we're seeing record buyout activity out in the real world.

almost makes me want to buy a bunch of DALRQ while its down

not too familiar with ACET, but they guys on Fast Money have been talking about the chemicals rotating up - i think specialty chemicals stand to benefit if that's true.

I finally got a chance to see "that" movie a few months ago. I liked it much better than Glengarry Glen Ross. You ever see Boiler Room?

I'd buy CSCO today if I had money. Hell I would have bought it at $26 if I had money a few weeks/days ago. I think Tuesday they will beat estimates, but a longer term play for me as usual.

How do you guys feel about SHLD? I'm considering selling a bit. It's either that or GE, so I'm leaning towards selling the SHLD.

i sold about half of my SHLD last month and don't plan on getting back in.

I picked up GE over the past few weeks and will probably hold onto it for a while and sell covered calls/collect the dividend.

I figured that if I'm going to ditch one it'd be the SHLD so I can hold onto the GE for long term stability.

Sold my SHLD. Unfortunately this is through my full service brokerage (it's a long story) so there's a decent commission being taken out.

For now, yes. The company is optimistic about future growth and they've delivered in the past. For now I think it's worth waiting to see what happens. In the short term, I wouldn't be surprised at a profit-taking pull back.

another good day for me...about a 1% overall gain across my portfolio. no real smoking gains on any one stock...just incremental increases on nearly everything.

and i'm looking for Starbucks (SBUX) to continue to slide. no real plan for buying in at any particular point, yet, though.
