It should be, Clamp-on outrigger. I can't type! I just shot you a PM about them.
As far as a downrigger, I might have one for-sale. But it's a maybe and it would only be one. 6/18/2007 6:11:55 PM |

Depends on which part of NC you launch out of. OI its about 34 miles, HI is less, don't know much about the Crystal Coast.

The Mid-Atlantic offshore board is really starting to take off and there is a couple of Charter Guys on there who are willing to share info and swap intel (I've fished with a couple of them). 6/18/2007 6:53:48 PM |

^Yeah it is a nice place. I went out there tonight with my kayak and caught a large mouth and a small mouth bass, both pretty good size but nothing special.
There def. is the potential for monsters there I believe. 6/18/2007 10:03:09 PM |

Sunday was horrible. We fished the 650 to the like the 690 all day with 4 knock downs and only two came tight and I pulled the hook on both. Spent the entire day untangling lines, I was just drained and not thinking. Saw lots of Tuna marks and even tuna jumping but no hook ups. Looks like I'm not fishing for a couple of weeks because of schedules and work.
We also had a Sea Stallion come over ahead at 50 feet. It was fucking wild. 6/25/2007 5:08:33 PM |

Tube Steak and I decided to go out of Maryland for some Rockfish for a birthday trip for me. Well after an hour run, we got to the bay and it was blowing hard...like 15+ of out NE. We decided to brave it in an 18 Whaler and went right out into the bay to the target ship. It was like a washing machine and it was getting worse. Made some casts and then ran back in. It was a nice boat ride! I had never seen seas like that in a small boat, it was whipping. 7/1/2007 10:14:11 PM |

Little snotty on the way out to the 750, bunch of boats out there. Trolled all the way up to the 830 and back and found some scattered eel grass and picked up a gaffer.
Right around lunch time, I was coming out of the cabin w/ my lunch and the left short rigger just explodes. It ends up backlashing (Drag not set right?) so I crank it and free spool it and it comes loose. As I look back a nice size Blue is just tail walking and it looks pissed. Fought it for an hour and a half and got it boat side and leadered before the hook broke. Bye bye Blue and white flasher :boat:
Fished around the 750-760 till about 4:30 with out any other bites. Some other boats were hooked up with tuna but just couldn't raise them. 7/3/2007 8:36:51 PM |

N.C. fisherman reels in a piranha
Quote : | "MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. - A fisherman looking to catch a catfish for dinner instead reeled in a fish that flashed its teeth and bit his knife. Jerry Melton, 46, was fishing in the Catawba River last week when he caught what state wildlife officials later identified as a piranha, a South American carnivorous fish that lives in freshwater. ADVERTISEMENT
"When I got it on the bank I didn't really know what it was; I hadn't seen anything like it before," Melton said.
When Melton opened the fish's mouth with a pocketknife, he said the fish bit down and left an impression on the blade.
Wildlife officials told Melton on Saturday that he caught a 1 pound, 4 ounce piranha that was probably dumped in the river. Melton was fishing in Mount Holly, a town northwest of Charlotte.
The catch highlights the growing problem of people keeping exotic animals and fish as pets and later dumping them into local waters, said Paul Barrington, an ichthyologist with the Fort Fisher Aquarium. Earlier this year, another fisherman caught a snakehead fish — also a nonnative fish — in Lake Wylie near Charlotte.
"Releasing nonnative fish in our native waters is highly irresponsible because it could have a very adverse affect on the fish in that ecosystem," Barrington said. "Piranha and the snakehead fish have no predators in our waters."
Jacob Rash, a North Carolina Wildlife Resources biologist, said he believes the piranha was the first caught in the Catawba River and possibly the first in the region.
Melton, who is keeping the piranha in his freezer until he can have it mounted, said the experience will keep him out of the river's water.
"I've been fishing there my whole life," he said. "Catching something like that is definitely going to make me think twice about what's in that water."" |
wonder how much of a fight a 1 pound piranha puts up
ps- i'd fucking mount it too]7/4/2007 5:26:25 AM |

Got up this morning and it was blowing but we said fuck it...Bad decision, it was blowing 20-25 offshore and the seas kept building. We called it at noon and it was a nice 27mi jog that took almost three hours at 10knots. 7/5/2007 6:13:20 PM |

Assuming you're asking about the charter:
We go out of Southport and have used the Salty Dog for years. Capt. Mike Helms. Old and slow ass boat, but he's the best charter captain around, everyone agrees. Plus we catch a metric shit-ton of fish. 7/11/2007 6:10:51 PM |

I aborted the trip this morning. It was my mom's birthday so we all went out last night but our reservation was at 9, so we didn't get done with dinner till 12. By the time we got back from Duck, I was wiped and the boat still wasn't prepped so I said fuck it. Too bad, the wind is non existent today. 7/13/2007 11:14:11 AM |
