Low calorie diets tend to make your metabolism slow and later when you return to a regular diet, you gain back some of what you lost (and sometimes all of it, plus some). If I were you I'd eat healthier foods and more calories.

eating very little never helps anyone, because it all comes back the minute you start eating normal again. eat healthier, but don't eat less than two square meals a day.

that being said, i've eaten one meal a day (dinner) for four days straight. i know what's healthy, but that doesn't mean i am healthy.

Weight loss is a simple function of calories in vs calories out. Lower calorie diets are fine, as long as you're eating often, and the right things. Doing this will keep your metabolism high and may even increase it. Eating a low cal , but only eating one or two meals a day is what will slow it down to a crawl

I'm eating frequently and healthily....... MY resting metabolism is higher, I pinch less fat now than before. A problem of mine could be that most of my calorie intake is after dark. I only get really hungry after a workout and then at night. I don't understand it!

while true, i've never been a fan of the 5 small meals a day. i do fine on the 3 meals a day - it's a matter of portion control (sensible) and nutrition. Don't just lose weight, get healthy! Why? because losing weight, from what I have seen, doesn't really effect your mood and stress levels: if anything, it's makes them worse. So, i hope you guys are exercising too.

I've started doing a pushup regimen of 5 sets of 20 per day. Usually when i wake up, or when i'm bored, i just do a set... or before or after i smoke a cigarette (haha, yea, i'll work on that). I cheated yesterday, after eating chicken breast all day, I had a subway italian BMT for dinner (oops). It was good though. I'm not terribly worried about it, because it's not like it's a daily thing.

that said, i'm about to go out to lunch again...

i'm at a plateau right now, as my body is adjusting... so i'm trying to throw my metabolism off by switching up what i eat, and exercising more (hence, the pushups). Most of the weight i've lost so far is just from portion control and eating less, but now i'm trying more to eat RIGHT, to kick up that metabolism.

at 280, only 60 more lbs to go, and only 30 til i can shave my goatee (meaning my double chin will be mostly gone! )

While they're a step in the right direction, pushups aren't going to do a ton for you

Don't.

What that scale tells you doesn't matter in the least.

for real your weight can change 3-4 lbs in a day depending on how hydrated you are.

just think, if you drink a bottle of water that's a pound right there. Do they have a body fat machine at the gym? That's a much better way to tell how you're doing.

haha they help, but i do cardio every night for 45 minutes, and lift MWF. The pushups are just a "i'm bored and oughta do something" sorta thing. it's all good

Yeah when I went into work I stepped on the scale three different times throughout a four hour span and got three different weights. Thing is I am lower than last time I weighed in.

They do have one of those weird body fat %age machines. I don't remember what it was to begin with but he wrote it down, I'm kinda curious to know. I definitely FEEL thinner even if I don't look it.

i'm on a 5-6 day a week schedule of about an hour each time at the gym....

yeah, but i didn't go to the gyn for an hour, all i did was run for 45 mins to an hour 6-7 days a week, but if you work out in a gym for 2 hours 4-5 days a week, shoudl be a piece of cake.

For someone who has never joined a gym spending that much time is hard. I went today and was damn near worn out. I'm slowly getting into the speed of things though. My problem is once I'm on the elliptical or whatever my brain does a very convincing job of telling me I can't go any further (unless there's a personal trainer right there). It's shitty and I definitely need ways of getting around that, otherwise I'd be good to go.

^i hear you

i keep telling myself that I came here and it was MY choice and I'm taking enough time to make it a priority so i damn well better keep going (although at this point i'd still slow down for about 4-5 min then speed back up)

I found that I can go a lot then stop do some weightlifting then get back on and go for another 10 mins or so until I reach my goal. I'm hoping the more I go the better things will get.

My boss said it looked like I lost some weight though! And this was after I got into a fight with my tight pants and nearly killed everyone. ha.

My motivation is that I can only buy new clothes when I'm at my goal size. woot. That and the gym is nto cheap.

Freaking awesome, I stayed on the elliptical for the entire 30 minute period even AFTER I've been walking/tugging/being pulled/running around for 11 hours. KICK FUCKING ASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

I'm so happy. In my head I pretended that the five people there were like "Yeah fatty make your time worth it here at the gym!" so I kept going to prove I was real yo! It's funny because I saw like 10 guys and 5 girls there just wandering around from machine to machine not really doing any reps. One guy did three reps then switched, three on that one, then back with looooooooooooooooong pauses in between. Yeah right buddy, get on the tredmill lazy ass!

Whew ok I'm good.

That's awesome. Yesterday I did my elliptical for 36 minutes (although I stopped in between for a few minutes to fold clothes) at the highest resistence and the second highest resistence. I am not feeling it yet though thank God.

Oh and I saw blasphemour Friday and boy looks FINE. Good going w/ the weight loss Ryan.

I think the best way to track your weight is by weighing at the same time, and not everyday, but maybe 3 times a week (if you're obsessive about it), or once a week.

I like to weigh first thing in the morning, right after I pee.

I would like to try an elliptical. I've always been wary of them, I'm afraid of falling off.

It looks more comfortable than running on a track/ground though, which would be much better for my back.

I keep wanting to get an elliptical machine, but I'm afraid that getting one with a wide enough foot stance for me will be uncomfortable for anyone else that might buy it after me or live with me and use it.

I need to start keeping an eye on craigslist in the next couple of months, because plenty of the new year's resolutioners will probably be selling them off soon.

I would recommend posting an ad looking for one. I got one for 120 because I posted I needed one and a chick didn't want to post hers (lazy) so she just offered it to me for that cheap w/out anyone else knowing about it.

Yay did it again.

I love love love the elliptical. It's very easy on the joints and very smooth. You barely notice the resistance increasing until cool down time. Ha. I'm gonna go for more time next time I go.

As far as weighing myself, I have a very good scale available at work and I hop on that thing anytime I can. I don't put much faith into the number anymore though.

Yeah, my scale is pissing me off right now too. I weighed this morning and got 2 different readings. A "C" comes up if it is not accurate, and it didn't come up for either. It's always better to go by how you look and feel, but sometimes digits help.

i've been off the wagon now for 2 days. i had surgery yesterday, and when i tried to work out this morning, i started bleedin again from the stitches (in my head)

yesterday, i had golden corral for lunch, post surgery (grilled chicken, steak, black eyed peas, and green beans) and sonic for dinner (cheeseburger and fries)

i had a can of ravioli for lunch, and just ate a steak for dinner today.

ack, i feel like such an ass for falling of the wagon. i might just wrap my head in gause and work out anyways... my body is telling me to get the fuck up and do something.

It's very common for people to slope out a few months after losing a bunch of weight. My trainer said we should expect to hit a wall in about a month, we're just gonna work harder then.
