Rosie O'Donnell on ABC's 'The View' today (Image: Newsbusters In yet another provocative claim, TV host Rosie O'Donnell implied yesterday the Iranian seizure of British sailors was a hoax to provide President Bush with an excuse to go to war with Tehran.
In a discussion about the 15 British personnel seized Friday for allegedly entering Iranian waters, the controversial co-host of ABC's "The View" correlated the event to the Gulf of Tonkin incident that propelled the U.S. into the Vietnam War. President Johnson's administration was accused of provoking one incident in 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin and making up another as a pretext for war... " |

Quote : | "Bush Authorizes New Covert Action Against Iran
May 22, 2007 6:29 PM Brian Ross and Richard Esposito Report:
The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert "black" operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.
The sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the subject, say President Bush has signed a "nonlethal presidential finding" that puts into motion a CIA plan that reportedly includes a coordinated campaign of propaganda, disinformation and manipulation of Iran's currency and international financial transactions.
[...]
The sources say the CIA developed the covert plan over the last year and received approval from White House officials and other officials in the intelligence community.
Officials say the covert plan is designed to pressure Iran to stop its nuclear enrichment program and end aid to insurgents in Iraq.
[...]
Current and former intelligence officials say the approval of the covert action means the Bush administration, for the time being, has decided not to pursue a military option against Iran." |

Regardless....I think this is a great way to avert any military attack in the short term. France just came out saying sanctions should be stiffer. We need as many countries on our side as possible to help destabilize the country and destroy it economically, or at least, cause Iranians to either overthrow the current government or seek new leadership. I don't want a war with Iran but if they continue to develop this nuclear program I don't see a good way around it if sanctions don't work. 5/23/2007 1:43:26 PM |

Even Western governments have assessed that Iran is years away from developing a nuclear weapon. The uranium enrichment they are undertaking right now is for nuclear power plants and is not even weapon-grade material.
And even if Iran were to desire to obtain nuclear weapons, what right do the U.S., the Jewish state of "Israel", or anyone else have to say that Iran can't pursue nuclear weapons? What are we, the world police?
Iran is not a threat to the U.S. Even if they had a nuclear weapon, it would be suicide to use it because they would be annihilated in a counter attack. The former USSR had thousands of nuclear weapons and never used one against the West for the same principle. As for the supposed threat of passing on a nuclear weapon to "terrorists", Iran would not willingly do such a thing for the same reason. The possibility of any real muslim terrorists out there getting nuclear weapons is much greater in the case of nuclear weapons from the former USSR.5/23/2007 5:12:03 PM |

Seriously...no, I don't.
But I did make a satirical thread related to this a while back...
Quote : | "I've been perplexed the past few years as to why the government left the borders wide open after 9/11, and illegal immigration has escalated dramatically post-9/11. If the evil Islamofascist freedom-hating terrorists could sneak across the border at any momemt and kill us all with a suitcase nookular weapon, why is the government doing virtually nothing to stop illegal immigration and secure the borders? Or so I thought.
The government is actually using illegal hispanics to fight and counteract al Qaeda. Thousands of illegal hispanics are being used as spies and government informants... infiltrating al Qaeda terrorist groups and alterting U.S. authorities. Think about it. Hispanics almost look like Arabs...allowing them to more easily immitate Arabs and infiltrate muslim groups. MS-13 and other ruthless Latino gangs are also being utilized to fight the terrorists. In turn, these illegals are allowed to live in the U.S. with all the benefits of citizenship. In return for saving the U.S. from al Queda, the hispanic illegals also negotiated immunity for millions of their fellow countrymen to invade the United States.
It all makes sense now." |

Quote : | "Time has come for 'additional pressure' on Iran: US envoy UNITED NATIONS, May 23 (AFP) May 23, 2007
The US ambassador to the UN said Wednesday it was time to consider "additional pressure" on Iran after a UN report said Tehran was still refusing to comply with demands it halt sensitive nuclear fuel work.
"The government in Iran is not in compliance" with the demands of the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Security Council, US envoy Zalmay Khalilzad told reporters.
"What we have done so far is not enough. More needs to be done," said Khalilzad, who chairs the 15-member council this month. "The time has come to look at additional pressure ... to bring about a change in Iranian calculations."" |
I wonder what that "additional pressure" might be?

May 23, 2007 By BARBARA SURK Associated Press Writer © 2007 The Associated Press
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Ships packed with 17,000 sailors and Marines moved into the Persian Gulf on Wednesday as the U.S. Navy staged another show of force off Iran's coast just days before U.S.-Iran talks in Baghdad.
The carrier strike groups led by the USS John C. Stennis and USS Nimitz were joined by the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard and its own strike group, which includes two landing ships carrying 2,100 members of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Aircraft aboard the two carriers and the Bonhomme Richard were to conduct air training while the ships ran submarine, mine and other exercises.
The war games — which culminate in an amphibious landing exercise in Kuwait, just a few miles from Iran — appear to be a clear warning to Tehran, coming just ahead of the Baghdad talks and as the United Nations contemplates tightening sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program.
"There's a link to both events," said Mustafa Alani of the Dubai-based Gulf Research Center. "The Americans are sending a message to Iran that they are not coming to the negotiating table weak, but with their military at Tehran's doorstep."
Washington is also showing Iran that the U.S. military will act to defeat any Iranian war strategy of closing the straits, which Iran shares with Oman, Alani said." |

June 10, 2007, 12:24PM Associated Press
WASHINGTON — Sen. Joseph Lieberman said today the United States should consider a military strike against Iran because of Tehran's involvement in Iraq.
"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman said. "And to me, that would include a strike over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."
The U.S. accuses Iran of fostering terrorism and Tehran's nuclear ambitions have brought about international reproach." |

Predicting that Iran will obtain a nuclear weapon within three years and claiming to have a strike plan in place, senior American military officers have told The Jerusalem Post they support President George W. Bush's stance to do everything necessary to stop the Islamic Republic's race for nuclear power.
Bush has repeatedly said the United States would not allow Iran to "go nuclear."
A high-ranking American military officer told the Post that senior officers in the US armed forces had thrown their support behind Bush and believed that additional steps needed to be taken to stop Iran.
Predictions within the US military are that Bush will do what is needed to stop Teheran before he leaves office in 2009, including possibly launching a military strike against its nuclear facilities." |

another example of the broken philosophy of our administration.....Fire/drop a shit ton of rockets/bombs on iran, because they supposedly train terrorists, in an effor to stop them......

newsflash
the goal is that by exposing the deceptions used as the pretext for the wars (eg, lies about WMD threat with Iraq), the real motives for the war & who is pushing for it, etc....we can avert the agenda of the establishment
same goes with the possibility of any military draft, for example 6/11/2007 3:38:24 PM |

Thats a neat little excuse. You say that war is imminent and paste articles that tangentially mention the possibility of military action, citing them as proof.
So should a war happen, neato - you were right! When the war doesn't happen, neato - you prevented it by copying and pasting!
The same goes with you posting style. You paste articles instead of stating opinion as often as possible. Then when the claims are disproven you disown the post and say that you only provided it for the consideration of others.
Basically it comes down to you not having the stones to commit to your claims. 6/11/2007 3:50:30 PM |

Even if that were true, do you really expect us to believe that this in any way takes away from the reality that the possibility of a military conflict with Iran is dramatically increasing?....and that influential forces within and controlling the U.S. government are pushing for conflict with Iran in the near future?

anyway, I'm very afraid Bush is going to fuck some more shit up and attack Iran, very real possibility in my mind.
It has nothing to do with a "zionist conspiracy though", its just that we have a president and advisors to him that like to play god, and think they know everything, when they dont know shit. There is no "zionist conspiracy", anywhere. The only thing close is Israel's piss-poor treatment of the Palestinians.
